    Great job guys! I'm so glad you enjoyed Richard Thompson's work. I really love him. I think he's criminally underrated. He's a master song writer, one of the best guitarists ever and a good vocalist too. Thanks for the reaction!

    Beeswing is a beautiful, bittersweet song. One of my favorites! I've seen RT 4 times...last time was in Salt Lake City and we were on the front row right in front of him. Watching his fingers fly and pure joy performing live was an incredible experience.

    Guys, go down this rabbit hole. Richard Thompson is an absolute genius. It may not sound like complex progressions, but he has plenty of those. His finger style is top notch, his electric playing is outstanding. He uses really odd tunings, is a brilliant storyteller, and arguably one of the most underrated songwriters of the last 50 yrs. Enjoy him

    The guitar playing on this is nothing short of incredible. I believe he was recently voted best acoustic guitarist by one of the music magazines and no argument from me

    Vincent 52 is a great song! I have known of Richard Thompson for years, since the Fairport Convention days, but I never paid much attention to his solo career, that is until about fifteen years ago, when I saw him in concert. Since then, I’ve become a huge fan. Calvary Cross is a great song by him. It really shows off his skill on the electric guitar.

      Great recommendation, Dan, but you need to listen to the live version of The Calvary Cross. One of the greatest guitar solos ever. A very dark song from Richard and Linda Thompson in the mid 1970s.

    It's amazing that music fans are still discovering the amazing Richard Thompson. I discovered him in 1980 and he was not at all new then, with great releases going back to the 60's. So many fab records. I bought it on vinyl back then.

    Thompson is a living legend. If you think this acoustic guitar is good, you should listen to him when he rips on the electric.

    Richard once told me that he felt he was cheating a little in the lyrics -- it seems the keys for the Vincent Black Lightning was only to lock the machine; the bike had its own start-up mechanism that didn't employ a key. Doesn't spoil a great song though! I quite agree with your sentiments. Amazingly, Bob Dylan covered this song a few years ago when Richard was his opening act, but he didn't get to hear it, having left early to get to the next show.

    There’s a live version of Richard and Linda doing “Heart” from the old grey whistle test, it’s easily found on CZcams, and it’s superior to the album version.

    I liked the vocals on the first tune and the storytelling and guitar on the second, so I'm calling it a tie. Richard is a legend (and aside from his own illustrious career has popped up as a guest on so many notable artists' work over the years) that I really need to dive into much deeper than I have to date.

    O.M.G. Chaps! Having enjoyed your Beatles videos, I now find you getting dangerously close to my second love - Fairport Convention. Please have a listen to "Sloth" from the Full House album (featuring the late great Dave Swarbrick with R.T.). Now if I can just get you into XTC....:-)

    Your joking the technique on this is incredibly complex particularly with the right hand

      @@ReactionsToTheClassics To be fair its a lot easier to see the Technical difficulty if you watch the live version. He is basically playing rhythm with his thumb on the top 3 strings and playing lead with 3 fingers on the bottom 3 strings. If you are just listening to the track it sounds like there are 2 guitar parts being played and mixed together. When its just 1 guitar part which is both rhythm and lead being played concurrently.

      @AWSAQEDS Před 3 lety +2

      This is a good example, focuses on his fingers a few times and gives a good look at what he is doing.

    Vincent black lightning is a crowd favourite when Richard plays live , and he often plays it at breakneck speed . A bit of an unfair contest because there are much better Richard and Linda tracks .

    I could've done without you basically repeating the lyrics in their entirety at the end. 😂
