AfroCubism is World Circuit's dream project - the original intention for Buena Vista Social Club was a stellar collaboration of musicians from Mali and Cuba. Now the original plan has finally been realised with an incredible line-up including Eliades Ochoa, Bassekou Kouyate, Djelimady Tounkara, Toumani Diabata, Grupo Patria, Kasse Mady Diabaté and Lassana Diabata.
World Circuit Records have established their reputation by producing some of the finest world music albums of the past two decades, specialising in music from Cuba and West Africa. The label is best known for the GRAMMY winning Buena Vista Social Club album, which is the biggest selling world music album of all time, and led to the phenomenal rise in popularity of Cuban music.
World Circuit's African artists enjoy equal prestige, including Grammy winning albums from Ali Farka Touré and kora virtuoso Toumani Diabaté, Mali's 'star of stars' Oumou Sangare, afrobeat legend Tony Allen, and the great Orchestra Baobab.

Hard to articulate how much I've loved this recording over the years. I lost my Cuban Mama this weekend and turned to this recording for solace and Guantanamera (a favourite of hers) took on a whole new meaning. Unlike its usual readings, this version has a quiet and delicate grace...qualities that I've always equated with my Mamita.
I’ve discovered this album about 2 years ago. Since then it’s been a love story between me and the album 🥰.

Once I made a radio programme called Africa Cuba y Visceversa in 2007, which tells about the connection we are listening on Afrocubism, great stuff...! Balafon, Kora, Congas, Tres, Maracas, Singing.... FANTASTIC... thanks to the people who made this project come true...

Love this album. This album has been out for a while but I'm glad i found it. I love the eclectic mix and the afro-cuban sound. It's a little like Afro-cuban blues to me. :-)

I wish they would list all the instruments played in each recording. In some selections, some of the instruments are not the ones usually played in Cuban music, which add a very interesting color to the recordings.
The unusual instruments are the Balafon (Marimba), Kamelen Ngoni(Harp), Djeli Ngoni(Lute) and Kora(Harp-Lute) from West Africa. Electric Guitar too.
