- A revolutionary game that Aron Nimzowitsch considered one of his most instructive. According to Fred Reinfeld, this game represents one of the most dramatic moments in chess history, as Nimzowitsch completely revolutionized the concept of controlling the center. Traditionally, it was believed that the side with pawns in the central squares controlled this crucial area of the board. In this game, however, Nimzowitsch challenges this conventional wisdom by surrendering his pawn center, while still exerting tremendous pressure on the center with his pieces, completely paralyzing his opponent’s entire army.

Nice explaination
An excellent concept by Nimzowitsch to maintain over the central squares that White lays claim to in the Advanced French- d4 & e5- but without the pressure on the hanging pawns White would be subject to. This game ties in well with last week’s Oster-Fischer game in that the activity Fischer had throughout with his quasi-blockade of the enemy central pawns was more effective than if he simply had two pawns blockading his opponent’s. It’s a concept that has to be applied carefully in different situations, because the other previously published game between Korchnoi & Tal (USSR Championship, 1962), Tal had a similar opposite color bishop blockade on Korchnoi’s central pawns, but he lacked the necessary activity to either launch a decisive attack nor to even maintain the blockade, and the game famously ended with those two white pawns on d7 & e7. So each position may or may not be safe to try and piece-blockade as not all blockades are permanent/decisive.
The tournament was confidently won by the sleeping giant, Richard “The Fifth” Teichmann. Due to some health and financial problems, he was often limited in performance and took fifth place very often. But his stars aligned well for him to be healthy and financially stable for this tournament, and he took clear first ahead of second place tie Rubinstein/ Schlechter, then Rotlewi, then another tie between Nimzowitwch/ Marshall. Many colorful games were played, Teichmann had the fewest losses (2), and Rotlewi had the most wins (15), and no one managed to go undefeated this tournament.

Why did bishop from e8 choose to go to d7 instead of going to f7or even for or first g7. Also it the black win if Q moved a d8 instead of c3.

18:18 could black have just pushed the pawn to e4?
It seems possible but maybe he preferred to push his opponent’s strong bishop away from that great d4 square so as to not have 2 enemy bishops aiming at his kingside.
I was just about to answer. :) Yes, in this case, the bishop would remain on a great d4 square, and Black would be deprived of any chance of counterplay, which he hoped to get after pushing his pawn to d4.

This video suffers from a lot of hissing when you say your s's. "Sibilance" is what they call this audio effect and it detracts from what is otherwise an interesting and instructive bit of Chess Wisdom. You should try to avoid this issue in the future, imo, by making some sort of adjustment in your procedures or by some change of equipment. I'm not knowledgeable enough to advise you on how this is to be done, but I know that most videos out there do not suffer from this unfortunate issue.

Nimzowitsch was not that brilliant at this game. His opponent was just too weak.
Way too wordy and boring, even at 1.75x speed. Quit over-explaining the obvious. Pick your spots. This gets tedious fast.
