A lock from the UK... makes you proud to be British! We seem to have quite a few disc detainer locks for things like bicycle and steering wheel locks and the like.
I was driving Lyft last night, and when my passengers and I passed beneath the I-405 Fremont bridge in NW Portland, OR, we saw a suspicious character hovering around the door of a large, white SUV. Love your video as always. I'm not sure if you've made a video on this already, but at what point does pick-proofing stop being economical for the manufacturer? i.e at what point does a lock become so hard to pick that any potential miscreant would simply cut/melt it?

I,d liked to have seen a close-up of those discs. I know what a false gate is ... but I'd like to see it explained in close-up detail. I'm still trying to pick the Esquire 440 Padlock. They were once mass-made not too far from where I live. (U.K.)
Is there a combination padlock that you would recommend? I was thinking of getting the master locks but after watching you devastate them within seconds I lost interest quickly. Great videos by the way!
Looking for a padlock for an outdoor set of chains (the chain link is fairly thick stuff; I can't cut through it with anything but an angle grinder) without breaking the bank. I want a lock that can't be bypassed or shimmed or raked. What am I looking at, and what's the price point going to be? I honestly have no idea what locks are considered "good" anymore after binge watching both you and Bosnian Bill.
This is interesting take on the DD principle; the key would suggest that there are more discs than there are. The last disc in the lock is a fixed 5 disc and it has a large space behind it that the 0 cut on the tip of the key goes in. I am guessing that this is for key retention as when rotated 90 degrees the 0 cut will be trapped behind the fixed 5 disc. And yet there is no actual 0 disc at the rear, it is driven from the front. So it would be possible to tension that fixed 5 disc, if you wanted.
Do these disc locks tension in the back? If you didnt have that awesome tool😊 what would you be using or does it have to be a dedicated disc lock pick?? Nice vid and picking, thanks👍
They make similar picking tools that are cheap (Chinese) but they have their limitations. Watch the first video from the pick build series and I think they discuss the issues with the Chinese picks
@LockPickingLawyer is there a possibilty that you and bosnianbill offer your new discdetainer tool to Multipick too so that we in Europe can enjoy it more easily? That would be great! Greetings from Germany
Is there a reason that all the disks need to be rotated clock wise first or can it be rotated the other way or does that not work? Forgive me I don’t have anylocks like this one yet. Also FYI love the channel!
Ok... so I just found this channel, SUPER IMPRESSED and I am now subscribed! BUT, after watching about 18 videos, is there any lock worth investing in? I now have zero faith in any locks in my house :/
Locks don't have to be perfectly strong, just strong enough to not be the weakest point of failure. On a house, burglars aren't likely to try picking when they can just break through a window, for instance. Most commercial door locks are good enough, and even a Masterlock is a visual deterrent on a toolbox, though there's nothing wrong with going up a step or two for your own peace of mind. That said, please don't give money to Masterlock or their subsidiaries, if only for a personal "vote with your wallet" reason from the locksport community.
Does anyone know if LPL has made any videos of him putting a lock back together after he's disassembled it? I think that might be interesting to see. Watching him work is like watching magic! LOL. Great videos!
You should do a video every 6 months on the best locks you recommend for the price. Have you ever found a lock you couldn't pick? I don't fancy watching hundreds of videos to find out.
Can you recommend a good shutter lock available in Europe? Hardened-steel body, hardened shackle 7mm in thickness (cannot be thicker) and with a highly pick-resistant core. Drill-protection disc would be nice. Which is the best one you have encountered?
@@lockpickinglawyer thank you!! I appreciate your reply. I got into lock picking about 5 years ago and recently stumbled across your videos. Great content! Thanks for sharing :)
I would use this lock. If the body is good that is. The shape is good. I would personally add false gates to it with a little file. Picking is not currently a real world threat.
Any bets as to whether or not LPL is going to file some false gates into those disks? I know I would... and I'd also file down the rotation limiter on the 7th disk
