There's a line in this video I ended up regretting, and it's "like an art class where you don't feel gay." Growing up, I was made fun and called "gay" of for being a weird artsy kid and at the time I wrote this, I figured it would reflect that kind of culture in a satirical way. In the rear-view though, it sounds like I'm being homophobic. I disliked this line so much I re-wrote it when I released the album version in 2014. If you find this video to be nostalgic, that's fine, but please know that I don't stand by that line nowadays and I wish I hadn't written it. - Hry

Ok, I find it a really really weird coincidence that Smash Bros. for Wii U's Mario Paint Medley uses all of these songs from the game, and in the same order, even using that weird chanting (albeit adding an extra song right after that one)

I had a friend back then that had this for SNES and also Art Alive! for Sega Genesis. They were cool little novelties in the libraries of each console but I never found them too entertaining personally only because I had a Commodore Amiga with Deluxe Paint and Disney Animation Studio. I understand that you're all as nostalgic for Mario Paint as I am, but there's no real point to a game like Mario Paint or Kid Pix in the modern day. Drawing programs on computer and tablet are very accessible to everybody these days, making a 'child friendly' drawing program rather redundant, all things considered. Let's appreciate what it was, and what it meant to us in the era it came out, and let it rest.
Yeah, but said programs are just programs. Mario paint was an art *game*. It drew upon the resources of other nintendo games (mostly mario but also some others) which created a more fun aesthetic. I just used "fun" and "aesthetic" in the same sentence. I'm not sure whether to be proud of or disappointed in myself.
Mario Paint may be an inferior tool for creating art, but hardly for getting kids INTERESTED in creating art. That's way more the point than what you can actually produce with it, that it gets 'em wanting to do stuff and learn more to do even cooler stuff.
I have yet to see a "kid-friendly" music composition program that an adult could also make use of. Not that mario paint was super useful, but it was more than a lot of "here hit keys on a piano and it makes sound" type things.
