    I live in Japan and began playing tennis at the ripe old age of 70. The third or fourth racket I tried (bought is more accurate--I live on small island and demoing is literally impossible) was a Regna 98. I played well with it, but as you might imagine, being so new to tennis, I was wildly inconsistent. I eventually decided to buy a racket with a 100 inch head size and gave the Regna to my wife, who is younger and who has played tennis far longer. She loves her Regna. We play strictly doubles, and often against guys half my age, and she hits with the best of them. If you can get one, I am sure she would highly recommend it... I came back to add, in Japan they run at about a 15-20% premium to the cost of most other rackets. So, it wasn't horribly expensive here...

    I bought one and tried it. Sadly fell in love with it. Bought a few 🙈 more via eBay and such from sellers from Japan. Awesome racket, demanding but awesome.

    So you finally got one.
    There is a 100 version that is slightly easier to find. Lighter and stiffer, it is even more on the user friendly side, but a little less rewarding.

    Background, bplayed since 12, now in my 40's, UTR 6-7 in singles/doubles. Owned (Six one 90, Blade v7, RF97 315g, head liquid radical, aero pro drive, Yonez Ezone 98 Tour, Vcore 95 2022, Head Ti6, Pro staff V14) Demoed the Regna in Japan and was shocked at how unstable it was at the point of contact, catch the ball perfectly and it rattles like crazy, even compared to the Six one 90 which has the sweet spot of a pea and known to punish offcenter shots, the regna has the sweet spot of a needle, dont recommend this racquet at all. Tried the Percept 97D, which was very forgiving and pocketed the ball like a dream. Dont believe the hype, try it before you buy.

    Regna with gut/poly strung in the mid to low 40s is magic. Feels amazing and the playability is top notch

    Im using a 100 with the yonex Polytour pro. Love it when it was freshly strung definitely getting more spin compare to my ezone. But after the strings died my consistency dropped dramatically. I may need to find a more suitable string

  • @Erwin_Tolentino
    @Erwin_Tolentino Před měsícem +6

    You should try it with your string tension at 4-5 lbs. lower than your usual. I read in one message board that this opens up the playability of the Regna. Enjoy!

    I’ve had 2 Regna 98 for quite a while (same generation as in the video), one word to highlight its main merit is STABLE, in a relatively “light” package, thus more user friendly, whereas with other players sticks, including the pro stock platform rackets, you need tons of lead to achieve a similar result, but with Regna I play in stock form. If you use it along with other rackets side by side in one session, I am sure you will get what I mean by that. On serve, return, ground strokes and volley, rock solid, unbelievably stable. What it means? It means more precision (that’s why they went for 16x19 instead of 18x20 or 18x19 etc, to give it more spin potential), better shot quality and more confidence. I own other control oriented rackets like the Blade, Pro Staff 315g, Vcore Pro 97 and Vcore 95 2018 and 2021, I assure you Regna is more powerful due to its way to blend stiffness and flex. Pro Staff is stiff, stiff like a wooden stick, whereas Regna is stiff but with very subtle flex, in my opinion way more comfortable and offers you right amount of free power (not too much). For those feel oriented people, it’s the only current Yonex racket with no vibration filtering film technology (whatever it’s named now), what else can I say? The only downside, yes, is the price tag, but think it this way, I bought a lot of , I mean a lot, different rackets before them, since I put my hands on one Regna, I bought a second one, and never purchased a racket after, I don’t even watch new release reviews anymore, sold a few, only keep those I like to have for fun. It even came with a top notch leather under grip (so you don’t need to change it yourself resulting in altering the balance, and have to rebalance it etc, very thoughtful), I guess it’s saving me money? If you are a good player, I am a 5.0 by the way, you should give it a try if you ever manage to get hold of one. It’s not the most powerful, spin friendly, forgiving (it’s meant for decent players, but with 98 head more forgiving than Prestige and Vcore 95 etc), but as a whole package it does everything just right, even including the paint job, when you see one in person, it looks so cool and almost luxurious in an all-black look with the blend of glossy finish, exposed carbon fibre, metallic matt finish, artistic spread paint. IMHO, it’s without doubt the best retail racket money can buy.

      What strings and tension do you use? Poly gives me arm pain with this racquet

    • @JoJo-nm1dh
      @JoJo-nm1dh Před 28 dny +1

      @@livingstonest My go to string is Lynx Tour Champagne 1.2mm full bed, strung at 52/50. Like all polys the tensions drop 5-10% with or without playing after the first 24-48 hours, so my actual playing tension is in the range of 45-48. Lynx Tour is a relatively stiff string but I don’t have any pain at all.

    I'm glad you liked this as much as you did. As most people would say it's overpriced nonsense. I own 4 of these and also had a pair of Regna 100. The Regna is the best all around frame but it doesn't help me if I'm overmatched and having to block back balls. For that reason I've been looking for something a bit more powerful and have been using the PA98 more lately. The Regna is great if you're on you're attacking all the time. The amount of stability the Regna 98 has at it's specs doesn't make sense. They must use higher quality materials closer to pro stocks when making this frame. As another commenter already suggested, I would drop the tension to around 42# if you're using poly as that does open up the sweet spot.

    • @dandan3045
      @dandan3045 Před měsícem +1

      "overpriced nonsense" - yet own 4 of them. Something doesn't add up.

    • @marriedwithwatches
      @marriedwithwatches Před měsícem

      @@dandan3045 That's what most people call it., especially ones who haven't tried it. I don't call it that. I think it's a great frame which is why it was my primary for over a year. I just wish my skill level was higher or it was a bit more forgiving. Really high level players like Coach Gu from TennisSpin think it is the best frame ever. And honestly at this point it's only $130 more than most frames. For a while the pricing was almost double every other frame but as frame prices have been rising, they are catching up to the Regna price.
