  • Thanks for joining me for Part 2 of my journey on the Alta Via 1 hike!
    Our journey through the incredible Italian Alps comes to a bit of a lack luster conclusion, but Im reminded its about the journey not the finish.
    Dont forget to stay tuned till the end if youre looking for information and tips on hiking the trail yourself.
    As always, Mahalo for all the support, and coming along!
    Ciao! 😜

      That lasagna was actually some of the best Ive had. Along with that panna cotta and cake of course! Just needed a little more veggie variety and it wouldve been perfect! And yes, bittersweet is the perfect description.

    Just watched part 2. Now I have an Alta Via 1 guidebook, which makes it more interesting to follow the route. The sceneries are stunning, and those refugios look great! I will probably hike it next summer. You are from Hawaii!? I lived in Honolulu for 2 years!

    Hiya, thanks for the great video. I am wondering what your experience was like taking the bus from the Venice airport to Cortina? Was it pretty straightforward? Did you have to book ahead? And approximately how much did it cost you?
    Private transfers are just way too much $$!
    Thank you for any suggestions you may have

    • @BackcountryWahine
      @BackcountryWahine  Před rokem

      Hey there! so the bus from Venice to Cortina is fairly easy. You exit the train station and theres buses on the side (the right side when you exit from the main doors is what I remember.) Theres a small little storefront? where they sell the bus tickets, its enclosed behind a glass door, at the end of the street before the street curves left (hopefully Im remembering this correctly,) just past the small area where the buses pull in.
      The last bus leaves pretty early though, I want to say around 2pm so just double check that. Sorry its been some time now so I forget the small details. Also I want to say it was maybe around $30 or so but I cant remember for sure. I dont remember it being significantly expensive by any means.
      Also we bought them when we got there, and for the last bus as well. It was no problem.
      I hope that helps you! My directions are not the most clear lol sorry, Im trying my best from memory, but you should have no problem if you map it. Itll probably take you less than 5 minutes to get there..maybe about 2 when you exit the train station if my memory serves me right. I do recommend getting your tickets for cortina to the start of the dolomites when you get there though..those fill up quicker I think. Good luck!

  • @laramcgowan6744
    @laramcgowan6744 Před rokem

    @backcountrywahine If you had to choose between the first half (the northern part) vs. the second half (southern trek), what would you choose? Was there a different in food quality? Crowdedness? Quality of beds? Scenery?

    • @BackcountryWahine
      @BackcountryWahine  Před rokem +1

      Ooh that is such a hard question..gaaah i don’t know what i would choose. Each had its pros and cons. I will say, the second half, the last day where i made the wrong turn..i heard if you take the proper trail, that that piece is incredible..but i can’t say cause I didn’t see it! The first half had my favorite refugio next to the cinque torri but there were lots of people there. So it really just varies! Sorry that’s probably not the best answer but i think whichever you choose you wouldn’t be let down!

    An American saying Italian food is decent is a joke.

    • @Christopher-hb1wx
      @Christopher-hb1wx Před rokem +1

      Nobody said anything about "Italian food". We're talking about Alpine rifugi. Some of them have magnificent food, some are horrible, most are just okay. The average Italian would frown upon much of the food served at these rifugi--if made anywhere else.
