Cocoa is really a great fluid repellent. If you ever tried to mix cocoa and cold milk you would know. The first i think was powdered sugar or Confectioners' sugar
Thank you for the name of this dish. I've seen this video of them steaming that cakes popping up for months in an ad for the Dream app. Could not find out what they are called and it was driving me crazy.
@@DjentleAnt I want to add pink food coloring to it and strawberry flavor, rename it the Jiggly Puff after the Poke'mon. Most Japanese thing I can think of for American consumers.
For anyone wondering what’s going on with the chocolate sauce, cocoa power is hydrophobic so it won’t stick to the powder and instead of the sauce sinking into the powder it just rolls off because of it- kinda like how the curve of an umbrella makes the water roll off because it’s waterproof, if you want to see it for yourself take a spoonful of cocoa powder/hot chocolate power and dip it into liquid before taking the spoon back out, poke it with a toothpick and all the wet power should just roll off. I hope this explained it alright- sorry about bad grammar as well 😅
The first part is from a Japanese store called りくろーおじさん (Rikuro Ojisan). It’s a chain found in Kansai. The twerk cakes are not Castella cakes but cheesecakes. At least at my store they give out free cake samples every hour so I’m there almost every day🤤
I'm in tears. Japan is not a real place 😭😭 The food, the dedicated and talented chefs, the music, the aesthetics, makes me wanna become a child longing for her mum's hug again.🥺
Cocoa powder is known as hydrophobic so anything like sauce, water oil ect just slides righ off of it you can also put ome on a spoon dip it underwater then bring it up pop the water with a touch and the power insode is totally dry xD fun facts
So, I'm pretty confident that the first one is a kind of cake popular in Japan called a Castella Cake. Those are usually rectangular in shape, but everything about the crumb consistency of it looks like Castella.
The coco powder is used to bind to the sauce so it drips off, well technically rolls off. The surface area of the power is so fine it can forfill the water surface tension allowing it to move like that, unless further mixed.
They are all Japanese versions of fluffy pancakes and Japanese cheesecake
297likes and no replies, let me fix tha-
The first one is a cheese cake
@@saber5694they said cheesecake...

I was LEGIT thinking "a whole stick of butter?!" At the exact time you said it bruv😂
It's a restaurant in Japan called butter, and everything has butter/a stick of butter ahah!
I know! That's too damn much butter!
I think you're supposed to take the butter home with you. That's why they serve it in the paper.
Everybody wants pancakes with their stick of butter😊
Japan is a dream land
Japanese culture really appreciates beautiful presentation. And their bakeries are next level!
They really are i felt so fat when i went there. I was eating way too much cuz its just too good😭

The cake is made so soft and fluffy by using yogurt in it, i believe.
Also apparently using tonic water in pancakes makes them the fluffiest ever
Do you know how much tonic water goes in the recipe? I'd love to try that!
It's the powder (sugar, cocoa, & matcha). The sauce collects the top layer of powder then falls down
Chinese moon cakes 😍🤤🤤
Those pancakes….I’ve never seen a more perfect looking food! I’d cook them for everyone I know. 24/7. Pancakes for life!!!

First is a Jiggly Cheesecake, the second is a fluffy Souffle pancake.
Was that cheese they put on top of the souffle pancakes?
@@Irish_Georgia_Girl Just looks like whipped cream. Usually whipped over 80% to be a bit more structured.
@MizuMing It looked like a piece of white cheese sliced really thin, though...
@@Irish_Georgia_Girl Oooh, you mean what they put on top of the cream!! Looked like phyllo to me.. 🤔

It's just the Japanese version of cheesecake. Fluffy and airy, not that sweet as well.

Cocoa, matcha and powdered sugar initially repels moisture....so they put a layer there before pouring the syrup for the visual effect.
Is that green stuff matcha?
