BACKGROUND
Countdown is the channel’s longest running show and the first show ever broadcast on Channel 4 when it launched 40 years ago, in November 1982. The original version of Channel 4's Countdown is the French television programme « Des chiffres et des lettres » (literally "numbers and letters"), where the Numbers Round is referred to as « Le compte est bon » ("the total is right"). The show debuted in 1965 as « Le mot le plus long » using letters only, and reached its present format in 1972. This year marks the shows 51st anniversary.

SPIN-OFF
"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations eleven years ago.

I do enjoy these uploads. Thanks so much!
Im happy with my 444.
100*4. For 400. 5-3 is 2. 2*25. Total is 450.
Minus the final 6. For 444
1. (50x6+10-8)x(5-3)=604
2. (100-25-5+4)x6=444
3. (2/2+9)x75=750
4. (75x7)+(50-1)x6-2=817. (Out of the time, 816 in the time)
Only one worth mentioning for me differed from Rachel's solution
817 = 7 x 75 + 6 x (50 - 1) - 2
got that one in the 30 seconds, couldn't be more proud.
(wouldn't have if on the show though)
I did 3-2 for the 1! 😮
817
75 + 6 = 81
2 × 50 = 100
81 × 100 = 810
810 + 7 = 817
81 x 100 equals 8100
In the first numbers round, I saw J. J.'s solution, but I also had these:
50 x 10 = 500
6 x 3 = 18
18 - 5 = 13
13 x 8 = 104
500 + 104 = 604
6 + 5 = 11
50 x 11 = 550
10 + 8 = 18
18 x 3 = 54
550 + 54 = 604
50 - 5 = 45
45 x 10 = 450
450 + 3 = 453
453 x 8 = 3624
3624 / 6 = 604
The last is based on the fact that 8 : 6 is a ratio of 4 : 3, so multiplying by 8 and dividing by 6 turns 453 into 604.
In the second round, I again saw J. J.'s solution, but also had these:
25 x 3 = 75
75 + 4 = 79
79 - 5 = 74
74 x 6 = 444
25 x 5 = 125
100 / 4 = 25
125 + 25 = 150
150 x 3 = 450
450 - 6 = 444
25 - 3 = 22
100 x 22 = 2200
2200 / 5 - 440
440 + 4 = 444
In the third numbers round, I saw both contestants' solutions, and also saw that another way of making 10 was:
3 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 10
75 x 10 = 750
And I also had these solutions:
3 x 2 = 6
6 + 2 = 8
75 + 8 = 83
83 x 9 = 747
747 + 3 = 750
75 + 9 = 84
84 x 3 = 252
252 - 2 = 250
250 x 3 = 750
In the final numbers round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had these solutions:
75 - 7 = 68
68 x 6 x 2 = 816
816 + 1 = 817
75 x 7 = 525
50 - 1 = 49
49 x 6 =294
525 + 294 = 819
819 - 2 = 817
''
And I factored for this solution:
75 + 1 = 76
50 - 7 = 43
76 x 43 = 3268
6 - 2 = 4
3268 / 4 = 817
I didn't divide until the end just to send it into four digits, but you can divide the 76 by 4 because 817 is the product of two primes: 43 x 19.
604: 50+6=300
5-3 and 10-8 are both 2, add one of the twos for 302 and multiply that by the other 2.
There was also 50 (10+3) = 650. 5*8 = 40. 650 - 40 - 6 = 604.
Round 1
(10 + 3) x 50 - (8 x 5) - 6
Round 2
(100 + 5 + 6) x 4
Round 3
(3 + 3 + 2 + 2) x 75
Round 4
(75 - 7) x (2 x 6) + 1
Numbers Game #3 had another way to get to 750:
3+3+2+2 = 10
75 * 10 = 750
75/(1+2)-6 = 19
50-7 = 43
19 * 43 = 817
50-5 = 45X10 = 450+3 = 453X8 = 3,624÷6 = 604
50X6 = 300 10-8 = 2+300 = 302 5-3 = 2X302 = 604
100-5 = 95 25+3 = 28X95 = 2,660+4 = 2,664÷6 = 444
25X5 = 125 100-3 = 97+125 = 222 6-4 = 2X222 = 444
2÷2 = 1+9 = 10X3 = 30X75 = 2,250÷3 = 750
75X2 = 150 3+2 = 5X150 = 750
50-7 = 43 2+1 = 3 75÷3 = 25-6 = 19X43 = 817
50-1 = 49X6 = 294 75X7 = 525+294 = 819-2 = 817
3:25 pure Moss move
For the 817 one, I got;
75 x 7 = 525
50 - 1 = 49
49 x 6 = 294
525 + 294 = 819
819 - 2 = 817
817=(75+1)/(6-2)×(50-7)
817 = (75 - 7) * 6 * 2 + 1
604:
50 + 8 + 3 = 61
61 * 10 = 610
610 - 6 = 604
50 * 6 = 300
300 + 10 - 8 = 302 (or 300 + 5 - 3 = 302)
5 - 3 = 2 (or 10 - 8 = 2)
302 * 2 = 604
10 + 3 = 13
50 * 13 = 650
8 * 5 = 40
650 - 40 - 6 = 604
Most were easy enough, the best I had on the last round was:
75 + 25 = 125,
- (6 + 2) for 117,
7 x 117 = 819,
and take off 1 for *818*
75 + 25 is 100, mate.
@@JackOfHarts96 obviously means 75 + 50 though, as there wasn't a 25 and he used the 2 elsewhere.
i did 75- 7= 68, 6x2 =12x 68 = 816 +1= 817 only one i got actually
750:
3 / 3 = 1 (or 2 / 2 = 1, or 3 - 2 = 1)
9 + 1 = 10
75 * 10 = 750
3 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 10
75 * 10 = 750
3 * 2 = 6
75 + 6 + 2 = 83
83 * 9 = 747
747 + 3 = 750
So many ways to get 10......2 x (3 + 2)...3 + 3 + 2 + 2....9 + 3 - 2
6:25 you can do (75-7)*(6*2)+1
I had this on the last round and I am so proud:
75 - 7 = 68
68 * 6 = 408
408 + 1 = 409
409 * 2 = 818
I thought I even got 817 then realized that would be using the 1 twice.
Oh, you're so close! Just don't use the one at step 3!
75 - 7 = 68
68 * 6 = 408
408 * 2 = 816
816 + 1 = 817
Getting 818 still beats both contestants, though!
@@logansuits2406 yeah, not sure how I could have missed that! Thanks!
817 - There is now way I could do that in time, so I did the "Rachel special" - divide by 7.
That gets you 116 or 117, so I settled for 75+50-2-6 for 117, x7, and take away the remaining 1 for 1 away.
Yeah, I did 75*((6*2)-1) for 825 and then subtracted the 7.
Same here to get 818. After one more minute I came up with (75-2)x7 + (50+1)x6.
1:29 DANISTHE HANDIEST
I got 818... (6x2)-1 is 11,*75 is 825, -7=818
817: (75-7)x6x2 +1
817 = ((75-7) x (6x2)) +1
yeah the same.... it was 900-84+1 in my head
817:
75 * 7 = 525
50 - 1 = 49
49 * 6 = 294
525 + 294 - 2 = 817
75 - 2 = 73
73 * 7 = 511
50 + 1 = 51
51 * 6 = 306
511 + 306 = 817
50 * 2 = 100
100 + 6 = 106
106 * 7 = 742
742 + 75 = 817
50 * (10 + 6 / 3) + 5 = +1 (I'll take it. Could have gotten it, but no time)
Complete miss here.
75 * (3 + 3 + 2 + 2) = 0 (there we are, back into the groove)
And another miss.
TARGET 750
3 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 10

50 times 6 is 300.
(75*2)*(3+2) = 750

3*3 = 9
9 + 9 + 2 = 20
20/2 = 10

604=10×(50+8+3)-6
604=(5-3)×(6×50+10-8)

3:55 "Don't need to write that down."
No, you need to listen properly, Ms Riley. 3:50 - "Two divided by two is one. Then add one, ten. Seventy-five times ten."
Where did you get the ten from, Naomi? 1 + 1 = 2, so you're on 150...
Rachel is so lazy. She didn’t bother writing down the calculations for 750, and in general she whizzes through the solutions.
Plenty of unnecessary waffle at the start of each round though. Just do your job.
Not a patch on Carol
