Totally agree. I sort of liked when there were fewer legendaries to choose from and most of them were kind of bad and people had to figure how to make a good deck out of it. Now it's like "Hey do you like tokens? This guy makes a token every time you make a token and untaps when you make a token and taps to make tokens!!!"

No. You guys don't get it. Wotc needs new commander players. How the hell is a noob gonna build a commander deck? Go blind searching through their non-existent collection for synergy cards?
@@stonedphilosopher2185 That's one of the fun things about commander, finding synergy. Modern commanders rob new players of that experience by printing the whole deck right on the commander.
I think I subconsciously do this with most of my decks nowadays.
I don't want to build Ulalek to trigger my Eldrazi spells twice (that's an unintended side effect, sure), I want to flash eldrazi onto flashy spells and copy those.
My brain wants to try crazy things that break away from "intended", and while decks may not be "better", I do enjoy them more
I will be in the minority and say that I will be purchasing all 4 Commander decks from MM3. I collect the precons so it is bittersweet that there are so many coming out.
I'm happy to see Commander decks in the set, I am NOT happy to see the price of the packs.

@@Whodatk1d Ok that's your opinion, I will add that I don't think commander cards should be in the PACKS themselves or be in any way part of the limited play. If that is the case I'm against it. As far as the Commander decks, you literally just don't have to buy them. It won't affect you at all.
Prices are wild! I know a lot of people are going to get a lot out of these decks and that makes me happy, but PERSONALLY I wish there were no commander specific cards in MH3

I'm looking forward to the decklists, but yeah, $80+ for basic decks is wild. They can charge whatever for the collector editions, but don't rob the casual commander player in the process.

I tried and quit playing mtg when i was younger in like 2013 but it was so annoying cause all precons sucked and games ended so fast, but recently, someone taught me commander and I’m OBSESSED i can play it with bigger friend groups and it feels more social:P

I stepped away from commander after Dominaria because my play group dissolved. I sold off my cards and didn't pay attention to MTG until the past month or so. I was shocked to see so many commander pre-cons flooding the shelves of a LGS I stopped by. It feels completely unnecessary. Once a year felt like too little, but now it's like they push these decks out once a week. 🤣
How do you feel about dominaria united and all the remastered sets? Collector's boosters are crazy too. I'll buy a prerelease online for about the same $27 price as one pack of cards. Maybe a bundle if I want more. So many sets I wouldn't wanna buy a booster box. I am glad bundles include lands if I need, as I find singles ridiculous to risk bans and not play with friends unless they cheese you with infinite mana or whatever lol.
that just feels like mtg's production scale these days. i dropped out around eldritch moon, came back and couldnt believe how much product was being release each year
I used to like the idea of Modern, but then the Horizon sets just turned it into the new Legacy. Legacy is dead and Pioneer is the new Modern. The fact they made EDH precons is telling, but I wasn't planning on spending my money on that unfocused garbage anyway. I'll just proxy the cool new cards and put together a deck that works.
You've never played Legacy if you think Modern is the new Legacy and Legacy is dead lol.
I do like that wotc pushes out many products, more choices for the fans and consumers. What I don’t like is the price they are asking for it.
Price is the wrong metric to focus on.

It literally is aimed and priced for modern players who probably alot of those dont like the more casual formats already. Sure modern is expensive but so will these boxes be especially if they get a bunch of cards they wouldn't or couldnt use

Honeslty, what kills me, is that WOTC abaolutely could have sold premium Modern decks. Sell them at $200, $250. Actual modern decks, with modern mana bases. Make them current decks that are going to get powercrept by MH3. Everyone wins.
Commander decks for the set is wild.
Modern precons here would have been AWESOME. Highlighting the new strategies or mechanics of the set would have been a massive win.

I would have been happier to see premium modern decks to get people into the format with a deck that can contend with other strategies. There's already a massive influx of commander products every block. This made no sense and i'm primarily a commander player as of the last 6 years.
@@chrisbrindamour9558 100 percent. I mean they could have even released decks getting buff my MH3. Eldrazi Tron, Snow, Superfriends, ect. Then they take up secondary market buys via the precons and people buy the set. Idk, Josh really hits on it with the commanderification of everything. It drags MTG down a lot.

Inclined to agree - adding Commander stuff in everything, even a Modern masters set, is just too much. In this case, the cash grabbiness is more obvious than usual.
Do they have a decklist yet.
I have a suspicion that these commander decks will be similar to commander masters precons in terms of value.
I absolutely hate how parasitic commander is to the rest of the game.
The format developed from people combining cards that were not designed specifically for it and it had no problem growing and thriving so I don't see what necessitates printing cards specifically for it, especially in such quantities.
It's gotten to the point where there are cards you outright can't play or should actively avoid if you don't play commander. And especially when these cards are rares or mythics they not only do nothing for you but they also occupy slots in booster packs that might otherwise be given to more universally applicable cards.
Lord of the rings was a set designed to be released right into modern and they made commander decks for them as well. In all honesty I don't think it is that bad to release commander decks they are big sellers of every release

The precedent is set that most of the "value" will be in the commander decks and less so in the bulk of the set.
Ugh value of MH3 in commander cards was not on my bingo card.

When we first started playing commander there was no hand holding... no precons, no stupid eminence ability and no Jeweled Lotus. There was more creativity involve in building decks back in the days because nowadays every Legends come with a building manual... I also don't really enjoy that they slammed ''commander'' keyword on cards since it limit the cards use to only a format.
it exsistes so that people can either buy the cheap version or the more expensive version to flex more on those people who baught the cheaper version
Totally agree to what you say here. However the general target audience of Wotc has changed and / or they are right now forcefully trying to change it. They want mindless nulls that only want to play solitaire commander, that will just mindlessly buy any serial rare shiny bs card for who cares about how much money, these guys cannot and are not willing to build their own decks. You make more money with this new type of target audience in the short run, Wotc does not care about their own idendity anymore. Magic audience is not DnD audience after all. "The" creator of mtg left the game in 2014 i believe (?) sometime around that, you can tell there is no one left that truly has been caring about a coherent game since quite some time. Nobody cares about anything. That is what happens.

These moves are designed to make them more money. If this is one of the best selling sets of all time like MH2, then they didn’t screw it up. For me and you sure, but not in their eyes.

MH has been full of insanity like Dockside and Noodle boys. Putting that in the market is gonna make people not want to play commander, at least not with people who have Commander decks full of MH cards.

He's had 3-4 years now of sets getting worse and worse, and any thought of 'changing it from within' really went out the window when they had that conference call saying 'we're not overprinting'.
I agree with most of what you say and have been very frustrated as well but they have scaled back printing a bit. They have much more to do but it feels like a start at least.
@@HometownTcg When I say 'overprinting', I'm not talking the general card run per SET, I'm talking about the overall amount of sets TOTAL.
We cannot got for more than a month now without some new set coming out, weather it's a new MTG based, a Universe beyond, or some other reprint set.
MH3 is new content, at THE most expensive price, next to the 30th set.
THIS after having dealt with Double masters 22, and then later, commander masters.
I bought a Karlov collector box through amazon preorder, and not even a week after it arrived, the set TANKED.
I can get the box now for 170 something.
I literally just went through and did the return, (minus 5 bucks or so for restock fee, even though I never opened it) but have not bothered to reorder the box at the lower price, simply because I just don't feel ANY excitment for this set.
The mechanics and situation cards just feel SO out of whack for normal MTG.
MH3 looks fantastic.
But it does not look 300-500$ fantastic.
Players are getting BURNT, the FUCK, OUT.
Even up here in ALaska, where there's whales galore. People with money to burn.
