  • Abe has another welding test for you guys! 3/8" plate in the 3G position using the stick welding process. This is another type of test you guys will run into if you are testing out for structural and this is how Abe tackles this particular weld test.       You guys run 77amp with 6010 3/32 rod or 1/8 rod?? And 7018 3/32 or 1/8 rod ??

    it's amazing how you explain things in great details. especially for me because i'm still learning how to weld.
    i've seen some videos of welding but they just show how they weld and not explain it..so i'm very thankful for finding videos like this from which i can learn so much .. Thank you

      To slow, causes too much heat to build up, and if you're not careful you can leave more inclusions if heat and travel speed aren't right. Weaving done right gives you more control of metal deposited and better control of residual heat buildup, and a more proportional cap foundation. Practice, practice, practice. 👍

      @@MH-WM I get you when I try doing stringers some of me welds have bumps. But with small weave I sometimes weave more than I should it’s hard to do small weaves

      @@MH-WM weaving is slower than stringers. If you have "more control" doing one or the other than stick to that, they both accomplish the same things. I would agree that weaving can be more efficient if done well, but takes a lot more practice to consistently do properly. To each their own.

      The main thing is hold your toes... The old timer that taught me drilled that shit into me all them years ago HOLD YOUR TOES.

      @@Infamous_q50 man I had one tiny spot in the last bend that they bent. The guy on morning shift said he would’ve passed it but the night shift guy wasn’t cutting corners. I went and tried again, and my cap was 100% better than the first time but my root must’ve been worse than the first time because my first piece broke completely in half. I had to repair the root on the second one a few times so I’m assuming that’s why. So I’m gonna practice and then go try again one day in the future. Thank you for checking with me, I appreciate that.

      @@Infamous_q50 I even took pictures of the cap, my second try, because I was so confident that I had it in the bag. But that root just wasn’t good enough. I was upset but they were really encouraging to me, told me to come back and try again when I had practiced a bit. I just hate failure but I was bound to bust out at some point in the career.

      Biggest problem with welding instruction, teaching only one variability.

      I'm having problems doing a 3g root pass, I keep fucking up the end and it's a self paced class. Instructors just sit at their desks and don't really help out.

    Well explained but not that simple what makes it a challenge is 1 from machine to machine the amps differ a little and youre traveling speed that is crucial and even knowing that the amps and landing will work for you or not like me a prefer a 3.2mm rod with 3.2 mm root face and root gap or 2.4mm rod with 2.4mm root face and gap at 85amps so the speed im traveling at wont be the same because look at the amps but you give a good starter guide even that you sound nervous but you know youre stuff bud

      I think of different length seconds as beats in music. The time signature can change depending on the weld puddle characteristics.
      Though consistency of time is important, the beats themselves are subjective to the conditions in my mind.

      It's called a Count, such as a two-count or three-count. Same name in music.

    it looks really good in my opinion but my teachers would have told me that your two stringers on your caps aren’t flushed with each other and would be rejected so idk if my teachers are being very picky or the inspectors would really reject it
