Great Daniel, as a teacher of World Literature, I will add 2 ideas: 1) in Taoist theory( yin/yang) the opposites spin in balance to create the “one”...; thus the ending conclusion of your lesson.....2) language is limited, so as children, we learn the language of opposites to gain reference ( good/bad, up/down... etc) where we struggle as adults is understanding THAT the opposites create the One... but that just might be Jazz.
Why is it always that a D major blues style song sounds adorable and an A major blues song sounds sweetest of all like the G major sound goes best with love and glamour...
At last the the solar system has been past and a course can now be charted to the rest of the universe, truly cosmic! This is far and away the most clearly I have ever heard the fretboard and it's mapping explained ever. Fantastic knowledge share, many thanks ✨🤠✨🌠
as a less than status quo play by ear guy, I became stuck and quit playing 20yrs ago... Since becoming a fan of Donato two months ago, I may actually try and learn to play...again :) Love your playing Donato - can't wait to see/hear you live once this covid problem settles...
The Grateful Dead and telecasters are two of my favorite things. You are quickly becoming my favorite artist. This info is invaluable and is truly a unique guitar lesson. It should keep me busy on the guitar for the rest of the year. Thank you.
Enjoyed this one - thanks! I look at guitar/music as a language. As with languages, the more words you know (and can use properly in a sentence) the better you'll be able to express yourself and communicate with others. To your point - the continual opening up of the fret board for players is much like learning new vocabulary and sentence structures. Strictly Pentatonic conversations can be somewhat redundant unless delivered in a unique way. I enjoy your "abstract" videos!
Had a college instructor that talked about how all music was the blues and blues is the ether of all music. I was so mystified, but I’m understanding now what he meant. Keep it coming my good dude!
Daniel, I had not experienced another being with such similar ideas and language till tonight when I found your channel. Keep being mystified and amazed when searching for the truth btw the work you're inspiring is amazing.
I have heard music is sonic math. Plato tells me math is thought. Shakespeare advises me that how you say can exceed what you say and it's better that way. Guitar lessons like this one lead to freedom.
Waylon Jennings Dead shirt! That's pretty sweet. You should, if you're so inclined, watch the original Star Trek episodes. They are pretty um, esoteric. Spock and McCoy or Spock and Kirk? Which of these is the real yin and yang? Maybe they're working more in the realm of Id, Ego, and Superego. You might just have to find out yourself...
Does this concept depend on whether you’re playing over a major or minor backing track? Because when I play in a minor key, the major pentatonic scale doesn’t sound like it fits:/
major over minor sounds pretty bad. You can play with the relative major and use the major root and it'll work but yeah just playing A major over A minor sounds bad.
This concept works pretty good over a power chord backing track whit the adding of the minor 7th (in this video Daniel uses an A power chord with some G on the lower string, which is the 7th minor). The musical reason is that basically the power chord is only root with its 5th, so it has no information about major or minor flavour. In general, the 5th has a sound that "strenghts" the root if played at the same time, so a power chord is a sort of a "strong root", but no major or minor. The adding of some minor 7th in the arrangement takes the music to a little bit minor land, but its not as strong as a minor 3rd in doing that, so you can recognize a sort of mixolydian flavour in doing that, but without the 3rd major, tipical of that mode. So, at the end of the story, the concept is that adding no "thirds" in the arrangement lets you stay in a land which has no particular defined flavour, but if you have only the root, the minor pentatonic will sound not so good so you add the 7th, and at the same time the major pentatonic is "legit" because of some mixolydian flavour. Obviously, this works only if you use pentatonic scales, because they have less "informations" than the complete minor or major, which will add a lot more differences in terms of "modal informations"...
When switching from major to minor or vice versa, is there notes that overlap the scale/key to pivot on that work best? Not that I can actually make sense of that while playing.

Keep Spreading The Love ❤

Spock and Bones, my man. Thanks for the lesson. I've been jamming on the boxes for a while now, never thought to mix and match the major and minor.

Hi! Im from Argentina and love country music! Scales most often used are minor and major pentatonic, major scale and...mixolydian right?
in what chord progressions are you allowed to switch between major minor main key

What American made Tele should I buy?

Genius.
Oh well- Spock and Kirk.
Or maybe Spock and Bones.
Daniel, what kind of pedal looper do you reccomend for study and play:
one simple as Ditto, or one with tons of memory like boss and digitech?
Thanks!
I would go simple if you can. Unless you aspire to getting proficient in complex concepts.
@@danieldonato I will go simple then! Thank you, very much!
Daniel, is curb your enthusiasm even better than seinfeld? The world needs to know.
Lemons on the boondock
