SAR K12 Sport 9mm - Inspired by CZ 75. Is it worth it?

  • The SAR K12 Sport is like a CZ 75. It's billed as an accurate target gun, but is it really accurate? (NOTE: This review is based on a sample of one and may not be representative of all SAR K12 pistols.)

    I like my SAR 9 for a Combat pistol with ok accuracy. I purchased Young Beretta’s Sarsilmaz Maga 2000 after we shot the hell out of it. It is a fun pistol with ok accuracy. I only keep the ones I like. It has to hit from 25 yards or it is a sell for something else on my list. :)
    Take care Sir. 😎🇺🇸👍💥💥

      It seems that every gun that I don't shoot well (there have been a few), someone comments about how I just can 't shoot, I need to change the way I grip the gun, of if I only did this or that different. I added that bit at the end of this video to hopefully curtail those negatives.

    I have the X version and felt the same. I shot a gunsmith massaged K12X and ended up with it. I did crown the barrel and it seemed to help. My SP01 is still a step up. Thanks for the review Ryder!

      I only paid $500 for it, so I'm wondering if it's worth the investment on another barrel. Other than the accuracy (or lack of same), there is a lot to like about this gun, but there is no assurance that a different barrel would cure that.

    I hate to say it but my own K12 is every bit as accurate as my CZ 75 SP 01 which pleasantly surprised me in light of the relative cost. What I have seen any number of times is that while the lower end imports provide low cost they do so at the expense of sketchy quality control and as a result the occasional lemon makes it through the line. In addition to the K12 I presently own a SAR P8LST stainless and a K2 45ACP stainless and am equally pleased with them. I did buy each of these pieces new though; I've heard it said that when you buy used you are buying someone else's problem.

      I'm glad yours works fine. I like the gun, but barrel-to-slide fit does leave some to be desired. But the price was right. Thanks for watching and weighing in.

    Well, if you are doing significantly better with your other guns, then the problem is associated substantially with the SAR. I agree with your assessment of the slide and barrel lockup. Can you buy another barrel for it? They are not expensive firearms, so I am sure you still did alright. Maybe either the new barrel you can achieve the accuracy of your other higher end guns.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I may end up trying a new barrel at some point. I only paid $500 for the gun, so adding another $150-$175 for a new barrel may be worth the experiment.

  • @flintstriker2791
    @flintstriker2791 Před 8 měsíci

    That gun is sweet looking for sure, maybe it needs a pistol smith to fit a tight match barrel, that would cost a lot. I test a pistol off sand bags to really see what the thing can do. Looks like SAR should have made it more accurate. I rented a Rock Island MAPP 9mm with the longer barrel, 1st cz 75 type pistol i've shot & it was sweet, it has a polymer frame & is similar to the Tanfoglio witness pistol. Could you do a review on the Rock Island MAPP?

    • @RidersRange

  • @joshuagibson2520
    @joshuagibson2520 Před 8 měsíci +1

    What are the chances the barrel is okay and there is a problem with the frame or other parts? I have no idea, but wonder what a gunsmith might be able to tell you by looking \ measuring some things.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  Před 8 měsíci

      Slide to frame fit seems to be just fine, but barrel to slide is not what I would expect for accuracy. I'm considering trying to find a new barrel (maybe one for a CZ?), but I'm not committed yet. Thanks for watching.

  • @Stoogeman762x39
    @Stoogeman762x39 Před 6 měsíci

    If the barrel locks up in the frame like the CZ, and I'm pretty sure it does... It can definitely be worn to the point of needing replacement. One of the pitfalls of buying used. I can't show it here, But I have pictures of what a good CZ barrel looks like and what a worn one looks like, just for the purpose of showing the difference. If I'm looking at a used one, I always pull that barrel a and check that wear.

    I was very dissappointed with the accuracy of mine initially. It improved dramatically when I installed a fiber optic front site from Dawson Precision. Here are the specs:
    • Dawson Precision Desert Eagle Baby Eagle Fiber Optic Front Sights (.135" Tall x .125" Wide Ramped Serrated) 050-970.
    I also put loctite on the rear site adjustment screw.
    Might give that a try and see if accuracy improves for you.

    Generally Turkish manufactured firearms leave you somewhat wanting in quality. Sometimes you get lucky but for the most part you get what you pay for. They could do better, they have state of the art machinery and access to good materials but they seem to lack a dedication to precision. Too bad, with the right attitude they could turn out world class guns.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Generally, for the money they are in the running, but occasional QC issues do arise. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @plantguy100
      @plantguy100 Před 4 měsíci +2

      Disagree completely. I have many Turkish made pistols and their quality is excellent. SAR has been around over 100 years and they are a NATO supplier. You are paying a lower price because labor costs are lower than in the US or Europe. I and others have examples of guns from various makers in various countries which just don't shoot well for us. It may be that particular gun or it may be how the shooter interfaces with the gun, but making a sweeping statement about all the guns made in one certain country is nonsense. Someone elsewhere noticed his K-12 sight was loose and someone in the comments here noted the same. I would check that first. Perhaps just as with cars, it is possible to get a lemon and perhaps that is why the first owner sold it.

    I have two Sars pistols, a 2000 9mm and a K2 45acp. Both are well made. Both are accurate. I’m comparing them to my CZ’s. , I have six of them. They’re close to my CZ shadow.
    You need to shoot a few hundred rounds to get used to the gun. You also bought a Used gun ! Whoever you bought it from might have cleaned it with a coat hanger!

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  Před 8 měsíci

      The bore looks good, but the barrel-to-slide fit leaves much to be desired. Even after around 500 rounds, I still can't make this gun work the way I want it to, so maybe a new barrel is the next step.
