Saved for years and years into my pension in a fairly low paid job and had a tidy sum to give me a few comforts in retirement. Along comes Gordon Brown, taxes the pension schemes out of sight. When I took my pension 5 years later it was worth half of what it was and my pension income was halved. Only just keeping up with the costs of living now, no room for comforts. Not so for public sector workers whose gold plated pension is guaranteed, inflation proofed and payment into their schemes are 10 times that put into private pensions. Those are the wealthy people Starmer should be chasing after as they are so rich. They do not need savings because they have such overblown generous pensions. Those on private pensions do need savings because you cannot survive on one of the poorest state pensions in Europe alone.
