    Dave and Dave, great video as always. Thank you both. As for the last couple of years when friends both new and old ask me to setup their suspensions all I do is refer them to your channel. 👍😎🇦🇺

    Hello Dave
    Thank you for all your insights
    We recently purchased a 2023 Tiger 850 sport
    I weigh 225 evenly distributed im 6f1
    We are trying to get the entire bike as adjusted as it can be
    The seat has two height options and it moves and clicks from side to side about 2mm its manufactured with that quirk
    Rear shock is minimally adjustable
    And we are trying to deal with the throttle at low speed or any time you pull in the clutch the engine just drops off, its a factory lean fueling issue we may try a booster or power commander but stock its snatchy whether in road or raun mode
    I believe this bike should be a smoother experience and we are trying to get it there.
    Ill ride it at the bike weight at abiyt 450 with some fuel in it and me at 225 and about 20lbs of equipment on it.
    So about 650 to 700 total on the tires
    For now stock Anakee 42 rear 36 front
    Ill be on road 10 to 55mph for the next 6months and doing slow maneuver training, and off road medium trail riding on medium gravel, grass, and dirt.
    I am really hoping between myself and my mechanic we can get this to be at its best.
    The snatchy throttle issue has to change its terrible its like from idle all the torque comes on from 2200 rpm on even with gentle throttle control its ride by wire and its like its an electric weed wacker ALL on or ALL off even thru the gears
    Thank you and take care

      Sorry to read about the throttle and fueling nightmare. That can make slow and off road riding very difficult. I'm sure you can get that resolved via a Power Commander or ECU reflash. Make sure that you use preload to get fork travel 2-2.5 inches (750-65mm) from the bottom of the fork chrome tube. Shock should be 1-2mm above the rubber bumper.

      @@CatalystReactionSBW Thank you Dave
      I will do my best to do as you recommend.
      The back story of this is im 57 all my family has passed and the pandemic took away a girl i loved since we met in the 8th grade.
      I was a transport driver for Ford Trucks, driving on road a hundred thousand miles per Year. When that ended i gave up driving all together and i been pedaling a non motorized bicycle for the last 3 years for all travel. I saved up for so long to buy the right motorcycle im 6ft 1in with a 36inseam and also a longer arm reach it came down to this Triumph with all its its safety features at 13600 out the door or i wanted the Streetbob 114 which was more money with less safety features. I intend to travel at 5 to 50mph and i wanted that v twin low rumble, the Tiger was supposed to have a v twin sound at low rpm and then a inline at higher but it does not. The tiger engine stock sounds and behaves like a electric weed wacker, abruptly ON and abruptly OFF.
      also although the tiger has a 61.2 wheelbase the seat to pegs have my legs Jammed high.
      I bought this for a therapy, i used to work with therapy horses that give rides to people who have traumatic stress disorders and i noticed the right motorcycle could help me that way too. Im going to do my best to succeed with this , some how Dave, i have to win this time.
      Thank you for graciously answering me , i understand how busy you must be, i believe you are Noble and Virtuous and Kind man.
      Take care and all Happiness to you my Friend

      @@everestvirtue309 I would suggest you look for some drop pegs to support your inseam and use a car upholstery shop to add 2" of foam to your seat. That should efficiently get rid of the cramped legs. Then follow the other ergonomics regarding standard bars and levers so you have that task completed. Lastly, try different tyre pressures of 38 front 40 rear and 42 front 44 rear (cold) to see what best suits you.

    I happen to have a Desert Sled as well and found your video while researching suspension. I offroad quite a bit and am finding the limit of the rear suspension. The front seems ok, but I am not too savvy with bike suspension. Would you recommend the Ohlins unit for the rear? Just like the man in the video, I'm quite tall for the bike and am about 105kg without gear.

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  Před rokem +2

      Given your anatomy and weight, I would suggest a replacement rear shock and heavier fork oil given the extensive off road use.

    I'm going to Oregon raceway park April 23rd, have you ever ridden there?
    If so do you have any input/insight? I'm (still 😊) on my 2005 Suzuki GSX-R 750.

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  Před rokem

      I have not ridden there yet! One day..... the track is a roller coaster so preload and compression are critical to make sure you are not bottoming out the forks (cable tie) and rear shock (tiny amount of grease on the shock shaft. Set sag at 30-35mm front, and rider sag in the rear at 20-35mm to start.

    Do you recomend andreani cartridge for track bikes? Cbr 600 rr in this case, or better just fit piston kit and valves?

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  Před rokem +1

      Piston kit and flow control valves will be specific to your needs vs a cartridge replacement kit and a better ROI

    Hey Dave, I’ve got the exact setup on my sled, great video. I followed the rear set up. But the comp/rebound on the front? Stock setting is 8 out from full clockwise. You were setting it at 1 1/2 -1 3/4. Is that a from full clockwise lock? Or are there different settings on the Andreani’s?

    • @omgrown
      @omgrown Před 9 měsíci

      I have the online cartridges in the front

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  Před 9 měsíci +1

      With Andreani , those settings were based on oil age and rider skill level. Stock fork would be 6-12 out on rebound and 7-12 out con comp to start.

  • @ryanalexander921
    @ryanalexander921 Před rokem

    Hey Dave,
    What I am gathering from the video, in regaurds to the rebound, would be faster rebound for the road, and slower rebound for off road. Would that be correct?
    Thanks

    • @briangc1972
      @briangc1972 Před rokem

      Not necessarily. You want the rebound fast enough to prevent packing under all conditions.

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  Před rokem +1

      Rebound front to rear for the street to be the same so the suspension is rises and falls at the same rate. That needs attention twice a year if you put in a lot of miles. For the dirt, shock rebound slow, fork rebound fast, so completely out of sync.

    What the correct sag for the front suspension, in mm?

    • @CatalystReactionSBW
      @CatalystReactionSBW  Před měsícem +1

      You start at 35-45mm sag to start and then assess fork travel used. Change sag to optimize travel and once done, you then know the sag you needed for your motorcycle model and year.

    • @briangc1972
      @briangc1972 Před rokem +3

      He wanted his suspension tuned. He didn't want to hear that he might have gotten the wrong rear spring when Dave mentioned how hard he was over working the shock and when he heard how far off his sag was. He said he always modified the suspensions on all his bikes. He knows he is a heavy rider and he knows the importance of the correct spring rate. His attitude changed as soon as Dave said the shock was damaged.
