- EL Cumbanchero, a classic Latin American song - one of Rafael Hernández Marín most famous pieces. Rafael Hernández Marín (October 24, 1892 - December 11, 1965), was one of the most important of Puerto Rican music during the 20th century. He has written hundreds of popular songs in Latin American repertoire. During his musical career, over the course of 6 decades he has written over 3,000 songs and became an important part of Puerto Rican culture.
El Cumbanchero is quite difficult to play. The tempo is set at 136 and there are many notes needed to be careful to play with the correct accentuation. It’s a good song for practicing the Latin feel and getting familiar with the Latin rhythmic patterns. I hope you’ll enjoy this song with my amateur Latin playing. I will get better playing this genre as I cover more songs in this group.

Excellent rendition dear Josephine :-) This one has tricky rhythms & the drums were really crazy at some points. And I love the sexy trumpet (???) sound at 1:26 😅
Thank you Candy. I have been hibernating (away from music) for weeks … life has been a little hectic and I couldn’t concentrate on music, so decided to totally shut if off. Now I feel fresh~haha. Ya this song is quite challenging, to me it is not the rhythm but the running notes and its expressions. In order to bring out the song, it is crucial to know where to accentuate the notes and to control the volume, otherwise the song will not be lively. As I am not a piano player, I think my fingers are not as flexible and I tend to stumble on the notes when it has long running notes without rest (if you know what i mean). The 1:26 is on S-Alto saxophone solo and the next solo part is using S-Trumpet (shake). I know what you mean. I super like sexy trumpet voicing too. In Copacabana, the solo part is using the ‘sexy trumpet’ (i too call it that). Some people call it ‘sweet trumpet’ voice.

With many Covid restrictions lifted, life is supposed to return to normal. But at the same time, we're trying to live with the Covid virus as well as many other upcoming strange diseases, along with inflation caused by nation conflicts ... ... BIG SIGN ... ...
I agree to everything you wrote Candy …. Big big sign here too 😔. We just do what we can and hang on with hopes that whatever may come we will be able to hold on till the gloomy clouds go away. Since we have music (and you with your dancing too) we just channel all the negativity / unhappiness / worries out through it, when our mind and body allows it.
Saxophone has few different types of voicing (alto, soprano, tenor …) that sounds similar to other brass instruments… many people made the same mistakes especially when it comes to saxophones.

Oh you played it before ? How do you feel about the song? Latin is not everybody’s cuppa tea, similar to jazz and classical 😅😒. I think it is something like either you like it or your don’t. There is no in-between for this 3 genres🤔. I have briefly scrolled through your channel but I didn’t see this title … maybe I have missed out … you have more than 200 videos 😳!! A lot of songs in a short span of time😲. I must have discipline like you and upload more frequent …. This means more practice whenever free 😏🙃
