This is probably one of the best audiology instructional videos I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Dr. Venema's passion and clarity shine through, and we are not treated to yet another instructional video that would better serve as a cure for insomnia.

The acoustic reflex does protect against noise-induced hearing loss. The reason is that it limits the vibrations of the ossicles and thereby reducing fluid pressure in the inner ear, and subsequently less shearing forces on hair cells.
please correct me if I am incorrect. It is the same as the blink reflex under normal circumstances. It protects the eye from dust, foreign objects, water, etc. However, when you are at a desert and there is a sandstorm it is difficult to protect the eyes and it is very likely that sand will enter the eyes. thoughts?

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:22 🎯 *Tympanometry complements the audiogram by assessing middle ear function, especially in cases of conductive hearing loss.*
01:31 🔍 *Tympanometry is a non-behavioral, quick test often used in pediatric care to assess middle ear function and detect issues like otitis media.*
02:21 🔄 *Tympanometry measures middle ear efficiency by analyzing sound transmission through the eardrum at different air pressures.*
04:07 📊 *Tympanometry results are represented graphically (tympanogram), with variations indicating different middle ear conditions.*
07:20 💧 *Different tympanogram types (A, B, C) correspond to various middle ear conditions, such as normal, otitis media, and fluid-filled middle ear.*
09:35 🦴 *Tympanometry can also aid in diagnosing otosclerosis, where abnormal bone growth stiffens the middle ear, affecting compliance.*

I had a stroke in 2017 and I have reason to believe a type a tympanogram was done five days after my stroke. My question is - would I need to have been aware and responsive for this test to have been done? My visitors tell me I was heavily sedated and unresponsive at the time. Just gathering information to try to convince my GP to get my hearing tested.
