A soda bottle wrapped in mono with a weighted bobber is used in Mexico and now across the ussa by those same people to fish with . When the cap end is pointed in the direction of the targeted area extremely long casts are achieved . The line is wrapped on the bottle during the retrieve . They often leave this rig in the fork of a tree near the water . Additionally..a zebco and a collapsible or two piece rod takes a minimum of area to cast , and a small spinner like a mepps or a rooster tail with the treble replaced with a weedless treble almost never hangs up. I use those and plastic... especially worms and flukes and beetle spins with great results. Appreciate the excellent you share with us ! Be blessed brother ! 🎣
Suggestions for the survival fishing kit: 1) Downsize the reel and rod. Get a small reel that will fit in your hand and load it with either number 6 or 8 pound test line. 2) Get a telescoping rod that is only 5 to 6 feet n length when fully extended. The smaller reel and rod will easily fit onto your backpack. 3) Do not camouflage float bobbers; they are designed to do two things: a) hold the bait at a specified depth and b) serve as a strike (bite) indicator. If it is camouflaged, you may not see the bite.
You must rate… I spent part of my Mother’s Day with you 😍
As always, you inspire and teach - never disappoint…( what a talent)
I enjoyed the peppy banjo music- 🎶great touch to your outing video…
God bless you and your channel…
🙏🏻😇❤️
Nice to see Andrew here out doing what he likes and enjoys to do-fishing 😀 🎣 great videos Andrew! 👏 👍
There must be YT bush craft handbook on content creations. Shawn Kelly started a fishing series, then David C. and now Andrew. LOL!
Looks across the lake sees the other two😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂@@7switty
It's about time too as long as folks leave the stupid altoids tin kits.
Basic fishing is to easy to not have a good kit in your pack.
In most areas there is bodies of water everywhere. Most cases.
I was thinking the same thing..!!
Only follow Dave and Andrew, the other guy is just trying to sell stuff and complain about CZcams, no longer follow the other guy…
I want to see you do a weekend trip.. making a shelter.. foraging for food and prep in the woods.. and tools you carried then.
I love the fact that Andrew tells us how to catch them, but because he doesn't need to eat them he just lets them go so they can live their happy pond life
It's possible he will be back for them when they're bigger.
Hello from romulus Michigan brother thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise and for taking us on your adventures through Survival
Hey Romulus. Garden City here!
A small forceps and a toe nail clippers are great tools for fly fishing.
A great backpacking kit I've found is a 2-piece ice fishing rod and a small size 50 spinning reel. They take up suck little space in the pack and can be much easier to cast when you're surrounded by trees. Obviously you're not going to be bombing any casts to the middle of the lake but, a lot of the time there is plenty of action right by the shore as we saw in this video.
Thanks for taking us fishing with you, oh my 3 year old said you need to do another camp video lol , he loves watching my bushcraft and survival videos with me
I love the clever way of filming this video underwater point of view. Thank you very much for sharing the skills. I greatly apprecate your leaderships.
That was fun just like hanging out. Next time bring a thermos of coffee so you can have a cup and we can drink ours for a more like we are there experience. Safe travels.
Yes, I like the change up in your filming format. You always have good content. This video on a survival fishing kit is a prime piece of kit, a real must have item to feed yourself!
Excellent example of a survival fishing kit Major Andrew 🇺🇸👍
One thing I have in my PSK is a small Blue Fox Wiglstik. It is basically a shaped piece of plastic with a hole in it to feed the line through to the hook. It comes with a treble, but that could be changed. Although no longer made, one can see it as vintage on eBay to get the idea. Durable, does not take much room, or weigh much. I mention it as I always wondered if one could craft one's own from shaping a piece of toothbrush handle. I don't know why it was discontinued since it caught fish; perhaps it did not catch fishermen or fisherwomen.
I also have some Gremlin Green removable split shot made of tin. They avoid the possibility of lead contamination to your kit, yourself, and the environment. They also will make a mark on paper so that adds another use.
You should do more like this. See ya at oss this week
One fishing kit item I’ve used for years when fishing with worms is a worm threader, which is a long metal tube beveled to a a point like a hypodermic needle but not sharp with a wood or plastic handle on the other end. You thread the tube through the worm and place the hooks into the beveled end and pull the leader taunt slipping the worm over the hook and up the leader leaving the end of the worm hanging off. Because the majority of your bait is secure on the leader and hook and your tackle is not visible. The other plus is that your bait will hold up to many more casts, and any body who has been fishing with kids knows they like to cast a lot. Whether this is a must for an emergency kit is up to the user. But if you haven’t tried one with the family fishing trip you should. I know they were originally made for plastic worms but I’ve used them on night crawlers for over 30 years 👍
Love your videos! I loved them even better without music (lol), and just the noise of your feet crunching the leaves in the ground. I've always like your no BS get to the point tutorials and they have a TON of knowledge, wisdom, and quality.
Any day is a good day when fishing.
I have a couple of those for fire kits in haversacks. Excellent option for a small fish kit.
Nice kit, now I need to make one.
i like the off the cuff more personal style video.
Yoyo reels , set and forget . Inexpensive , and passive fishing , while you do other things . Can get them in a 6 pack .
Isolated wooded rural areas with banjo music ,scares me
I liked the scavenger video too.
If you only have line and hooks you can scavenge for plastic bag that makes a good lively looking tail pinned with the hook and 2 inches or so of drinking straw slid down to the hook. Stripped through the water with a piece of stick for cast weight and or float.
The purpose made stuff definitely works best though if you're canny enough to put it in your kit... I love fishing/hunting. Good to see you enjoying yourself Andrew. Time out for ourselves by ourselves is healthy, especially in such beautiful surroundings. Tell no-one buddy!
Cheers. 💜👍
Universal Sovereign Citizen
Matches, lighter or sparker, and a 1 foot x 1 foot folded flat peice of aluminum. You can start a fire, boil water, or cook food in it. Great video.
I have one in all our cars.
Sir, T Y for the banjo video. I am wondering if the water body is a slough, pond, old riverbed, river lake, etc. You are an expert fisherman and teacher, your kids are lucky. I prefer stouter tackle as a rule, but those lures look like winners. I might mention that very heavy sinkers (in the many ounces) make effective self-defense objects that may not be readily vulnerable to arbitrary confiscation.
I enjoyed the pond with plenty of sunshine and your fishing tactics. You inspire me to go back to the type of fishing I enjoyed in my youth! Thanks for sharing your fishing gear favorites.
привет из Москвы. спасибо за видео и опыт!)
Thanks! I needed this. Springtime pond fishing, with a quick topical study.
What's that spring-loaded reel? "Something-o-matic"?
Great music for a backwoods fishing film. Hook em hard brutha!
Fun stuff. I find myself saving your videos…good training, reference and tips! Thanks!
10:32 the ant sneaked up and ambushed ur hand =D
Andrew have you heard of worm jerkey? Cut up worms, put them on a variety of smaller hooks, then let them dry out. Pack them in your fishing kit and save a huge amount of time finding bait, or use when colder weather makes it impossible to find live bait. I've been doing it for years and fish bite worm jerkey as much as fresh worms. In my experience anyway.
Lead the way 🦅🇺🇲💪
You make what might seem like a mundane topic quite extraordinary! Happy Mother’s Day, moms!
for the net needle.. I printed up a 3d print of a tatting needle.. makes making nets easier... super light weight... and comes with a spool for adding more line to your kit.
Thanks Andrew for giving us the hot tips for procuring some food. I have some of those spring sets, they work really well,They should only be used for a survival situation,as they are "Outlawed" almost everywhere,They are that effective! Velveeta cheese works wonders & is 1 of the few baits that is actually palatable for us as well. Cheers!!
Lunch is looking great.
Great video Andrew.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching it on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
A minimalist fishing kit. Great idea Major. Definite addition to the Go Bag. Cheers from Australia.
Thanks Andrew
I bought a small pocket edc fishing kit that had balloons for bobbers & braided line (braided line won't turn into a birds nest)
The underwater filming is a very cool idea.
Nice banjo music, Inbred Jed! I can tell you spent some time in Georgia...In all seriousness, you absolutely ROCK and I have not seen a bad video from you yet. Informative, educational, entertaining and relevant; your content is head and shoulders above the rest. RLTW!
Always a good one, thanks Andrew!
Two construction trash bags and rubber bands make good shallow water waders.
lol I keep 6 yoyo's in my pack as well as line to make limb lines with triggers...
Cool gig Sir, enjoy the fish!
I've just gotten finished with a walking staff that I've rigged to double as a cane style fishing pole. It's 6.5 feet long. It's part of a get home kit in case I'm forced to walk home from work should we rapidly digress in TEOTWAWKI.
Your right about the leathermen squirt ps4 best little multi tool. Great video Andrew.
Hi Andrew.
Thanks once again for an intersting and thought provoking presentation. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel
I’d be careful of that guy playing the banjo!
Roland Martin who? Nice video to see you relaxing, sort of. Interesting fishing layout without carrying a 3 ton tackle box that has everything except dynamite or hand crank electric generator. Bare bones as it were. Enjoy your channel as always.
I have seen telephone generators float flathead catfish, but the channel cats would often surface and then submerge. All illegal, I imagine. Might have better application in dystopia.
One day ill catch a fish one day!
👍
Awesome video and instruction..thank you sir..!
Love the new format too, 🤘🌲🌳
Another great video Andrew. Thanks. Take care
You need jigs and spinners a selection of hoos and small weights.
Wow, I learned a lot from this one. Thank you Andrew!
I like to know how to fish but I do not care for any type of seafood weather is freshwater or saltwater, but maybe I can feed others and trade whatever I can catch for some other food
Thx Col
Excellent video Andrew!!! Great kit!
Comment in the comment section , happy fishing ! ! !
Tip 4 U...
Best EVER lure:
Luhr-Jensen "SUPER DUPER" #502 !!!
Works EVERYWHERE weeds/ covers aren't.
Use a 'Carolina rig' with purple or motor oil colored worms where weeds / covers are !!!
Quality andrew thanks😊
Need a spinner bait for the hogs. Steady retrieve pausing a few times to let it sink, then resume. Seems to trigger them.
Great job on the video and content. I like the change-up in the format. Keep up the Great work!
Enjoyable as always. Thanks
Andrew, great video and info!!!!!
Спасибо!
Great video buddy
those auto hook settings are cool gotta pick some of those up
🐟🐟
Question: what kind of hunting / survival knife is that? Just curious, looks like a nice knife!
Thanks Andrew. I take it you spray paint a base green colour in OD, then use a mesh wire to spray a slightly lighter colour green? Is this correct? (For the lure case, yo-yo, net jig etc?)
Thank you
I have a rather heretical notion about fishing gear in survival kits. When "survival" became a topic was post-WWII. That was the first time that city folk actually outnumbered farmers, so for city folk who never spent time in the field prior to the military, this was new. They packed based on military manuals meant for aviators, and mostly those in the Pacific. The Book Says... have a fishing kit. So everyone carried fish hooks, when "country folk" just did it anyway. And because it was enshrined by The Book as blessed by GI, it got stuck there. But for most people who are lost, all it's going to do is keep them near water, which means they have water and are easier to find by air search. But a couple hooks weigh nothing, and are even useful in town- ever gone fishing for keys in a storm drain?
Always good info!!
Awesome
I
Live in the uk, what manufacturer makes those plastic boxes?
Another great video, allways look foto these 👍
Nice job on fishing and good fish too eat . Nicely done on showing the gear, in the kit .
🇺🇸🇺🇸🪓🔪👍👍
When ever I fill my reels I have line left over. I put these in my kit.
Okay now I have a question in regards to that little spring device is that another version of the speed hook?
Dave and Shawn don't mind you bogarting there spot?
❤❤
👍👍
Use a popper lure
nice video, my man.
Anytime I see you with fishing gear now, I assume you're placing another cache somewhere...
i know for a fact you have trained some boots, you got that voice from yelling lol
Important to speak from the diaphragm like Pavarotti did, to spare the vocal chords. Nothing helps like a singing instructor. BTW, some great banjo, maybe calls fish well?
I thought fish were square
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
💯🇺🇸🤙🏼
What about ticks??
is that poison ivy on that tree at the end? and if that was his survival fishing kit fer real, and all ya got left is One Jig rig? Should have brought some ¼ sticks of dynamite. should have left some of fish now that yer belly is rumbling eh?
