Art for me is recording life's unknown parts; the mysterious side of our being, when expressed in a well crafted manner, appears as a form of art. Let me share a notebook which became a sketchbook when the seeds of imagination were planted with notes of ideas, that crossed my mind and drawings, which are notes, that crossed my vision.

Is it just me or is someone else's mind blown by what this man can do with a regular ball point pen? :)
it's absolutly amazing!! :D
tools become everything
-Cesar Santos
So we don't need to get a more professional items to make a masterpiece
nice
Practice, practice, practice that is how he do it, and you to can do it , start it is ugly but continue, and became a master, not easy but can be done
I also feel the same
Who in school days didn't feel like they did some of their favorite pieces in the cheapest lined notebook?
i like your paintings too Liz, i checked your videos out, beautiful!
I love the idea of keeping art playful or at least having playful aspects when most of us take our art maybe too seriously
Theres so many artists on youtube, but only one Cesar Santos..how can you make ball point pen art look so beautifull..incredible
you're so funny man, should be an awesome experience to spend a day just talking to you
Cesar, you're living my dream 😅
Thanks so much for continuing to post videos like this. It's so nice to have top tier artists do free youtube comment. A real blessing
You are a great Living Master, without you the world of Art incomplete
Your pen sketches are Beautiful.
Your singing isn't half bad cesar, we need a full cover of L'Italiano!
lol!
It surprised me how good his singing voice is
My god , you are an artist and a classical guitarist
I love your sketchbook tours so much especially the academic ones and drawings, please do keep doing sketchbook tours!
You're right, pen sketching is very fun/good for quickly capturing moments from life. I thoroughly enjoyed sketching in pen when I went to New York in 2016 or 2017. Happy moving you and you're wife💕😁!
You are an amazing artist 🙂
llena de felicidad por tus logros y pasion en la vida. Te Amo❤️
😘te amo a ti
A lined notebook and a ballpoint pen and he creates the most amazing art!!! I love drawing in ballpoint also!!!
Actually the ruling method in the notebook keeps your proportions better just like a grid without vertical lines
Welcome to Italy!
What a wonderful life you two are living. Bless you
Awesome video! I’ve been waiting for a sketchbook tour😎😎
Great sketches Cesar...!!!!The way you draw with ballpens is so warm and full of lightness without losing the realistic side and without expecting someone to focus on something particular on the drawing... Just like the flow you describe in the video. Big fan of the way you see painting.. Welcome to Florence...!!!!
Once again you have blown our minds with your drawing skills Cesar !. I think deep down you love the challenge. The pen was outside your comfort zone and as a true artist this was a challenge to you. And artists love challenges. Ink is very unforgiving when it comes to mistakes and ultimately you beat the ink hands down. Ultimately the pen submitted to the masters wishes. The ultimate humiliation was using the white-out on the ink, not to put out a mistake but to high light your victory !. Nice touch !!. Bravo !!!
You got poetry
Awesome Cesar! Thank you for sharing.
IMO pen or similar-looking mediums like etchings are one of the mediums that show mastery of art best because the flow and subtle effects that you can achieve with it requires such a high degree of skill, to get an idea of what I'm talking about look at the drawings by Rembrandt or even better the drawings/etchings by Andreas Zorn, look how he manages to make people look so life-like with perfect bounced lighting despite only using just a few flowing lines. If you look at Zorn's paintings you could try to study and replicate them brush stroke by brushstroke, but doing so for one of his etchings/drawings is completely different, each line has to be placed perfectly to describe forms in the detail that he and other masters like Cesar do with these types of mediums.
Agreed. Very Rembrandtian drawing style ! Many of Cesar's sketches definitely relate to the slightly curved cross hatching technique Rembrandt used. Cesar is one of the few (loosely speaking) 'realist' artists whose works I like, due to his command of technique.
As kids in the 70s we all learnt to draw in a Renaissance/semi-Florentine to Super Realist style, but as we got older the art teachers would (*inflict?) the modernist approach. Now we can step back and I personally often see a happy amalgam of the two in the artwork that matters to me- whether by others or myself. Etching definitely imposes a discipline, but also can allow great linear freedom.
@@rickh3714 yeha for all types of drawing I have found simply doing hatches at about 15 degrees from eachother instead of 90ish makes drawing a million times better wether I am doing this with 4mm lines as a technique to block out a even area in extreme slow detail where close hatches help to create the most even coverage or when doing lines that are multiple cm long and loose as it gives much more flow and at least a step towards the look of master drawings, idk what other secrets there are to these crazy pieces of art but thats one I have identified which is super useful

Rembrandt was prior to the use of aquatint use in etching etc, so
for the tonal range he had to experiment with line if he wanted more tonalities. Some of his tiniest self portrait etchings are amazing.
My Father used to draw little sketches of Rat Fink in pen on little note paper, napkins and receipts with pens and leave them for me to find as a child..That's all I had sometimes to draw with, lots of great doodling memories in cheap notebooks! Great video:)
Oh what a story!❤
Love the T-shirt, Cesar. I get it.
Yeeeeeeeees a new Video!!!!
I enjoyed your video! I am also excited for you both moving to Florence! 21 years ago I lived there too! I had earned a merit scholarship from my university for a semester at the Lorenzo D' Medici Art Institute! It was so beautiful and inspiring there! One of the happiest memories of my life!
This men are one Genio
Thank you and best of luck with the new place
whaaaaat this is insane! Beautiful!
Those drawings were amazing. Your song at the end was unexpected and so cute. You are always so happy. I always feel uplifted after one of your vlogs x
On the subject of artists' tools, I heard painter Brian Rutenberg's opinion that the most important one is a locked door. Very true I think (I recommend his inspiring words only book Clear Seeing Place). I've visited Firenze a good number of times and look forward to following your adventures in your new Italian home.
First like and second comment .. love your work ❤️🙏
Congrats on your new home/studio! As per your recommendations, Harold Speed’s comments on drawing make a notable eco on yours, regarding beauty and emotion; which as an aspiring artist is always exciting to find. Thanks for the thoughts, sketches and the Italian song maestro! Hope to meet you one day in Florence! Saludos desde México!
Nice lines, in paper and in mind
Living in italy. Great
Cesar, thank you for sharing with us what's going on in your life. You are one of the most inspiring artists on CZcams. I came to art late in life and am just painting and drawing as a hobby now, but I'm always inspired by watching your videos.
Damn, I always feel like you have three hands with that t-shirt :D
I love your energy and positive appreciation of everything around you. Great perspective to have!
Benvenuto in Italia! Sicuramente sei un valore aggiunto per qualunque paese in cui tu voglia andare. Grande Toto Cutugno. Good luck for everything, e non vedo l'ora di conoscere i tuoi prossimi progetti :)

That Valentina sketch reminds me of Rembrandt’s etchings
I am sooo Happy for you!! Thank You for inspiring me!!!
You are a privileged person because you always have the company of someone who likes to pose for you.
Congratulations. That gives you happiness.
Privilege has to be earned! Thanks
@@santocesartI'm honestly not sure if this will be the first permit. Perhaps it is initially luck that allows us to find someone who understands us.
@@bFABIO When I go to the bank to make a deposit for work I am the passenger in the car and I always do a quick sketch of the girl at the bank. I think she looks like an elven princess. and when I am the passenger on the ride to work and home , i do a quick sketch of the people in the cars around me.
It is really hard to get an idea/drawing/memory at a glance but it is awkward to stare lolz. May we all have great luck finding people to draw.
@@bFABIO well sure, but they'll be gone in two seconds if you don't treat them right
@@peterjacksonanton4814 That`s true.

Now I know that you are talented in music too! 🎸🎶🎵🎼
Thanks for sharing
You inspire so many!!
Cesar you said something here that made me think you might have had a bad experience in America. I hope not. Things seem to be in turmoil everywhere. Many, many people here in America love you, your wife and your art. I hope and pray you find joy, peace and continued success in Florence. I purchased your wonderful DVD on portrait painting and it was in that and your CZcams videos I came to care so much for you, Valentina and your art. Peace & God Bless!
Love your work
I love cheap materials I used to sketch on a small notebook with just an office pen still looks good.... It's just gives me a feeling that a true artist doesn't care if he uses cheap or junk materials. Coz for him it's all about masterpieces
I love working in ink. I am currently working on a 24” x 36” pointillism in metallic inks. Great video, moving to a peaceful village sounds wonderful. I wish you happiness in your new home.
Great video! I love the singing too. You continue to be my inspiration.
Just like you, I belong to this world also 😌
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!
This Technique Is Amazing, Using Normal Lined Notebook, So That people can easily learn Propertions etc.
Muchas felicidades Cesar!. Durante muchos años tuve la necesidad de saber si mi trabajo tenía algún sentido. Me acabas de revelar muchas cosas de mi mismo que estaban latentes y te estoy muy agradecido

You have accomplished so much, and you are so generous in sharing with us. The lights are turning on for me more and more. I can't thank you enough!!!
Sos un grande, Cesar!
Congratulations on this big move. Best of luck
Learned so much from you ❤️👍
Recently I've done a couple of harbour scenes in Tenby using coloured biro.
I never knew there was so many colours available.
I haven’t been on CZcams for a while. You leaving Miami is a pain in my heart. I always wanted to visit you when I will visit my family and friends near there. I haven’t been able to as of yet. Now my dream of meeting the master will have to wait until I can visit Florence.
I pray for health and happiness for you and your family.
And I love your drawings. They would be masterpieces if you used mud on a stick.
Bentornato in Italia
Good luck on your new home and Muchas felicidades!
I love drawing with ballpoint pens and fountain pens.
