- Living St. Louis producer Anne-Marie Berger visits Lafayette Square, one of St. Louis' oldest neighborhoods that sits just south of downtown. This community surrounds Lafayette Park-the oldest park west of the Mississippi. It was the richest neighborhood in St. Louis during the mid 1800s, but after a destructive tornado, many residents left, and the area fell into urban decay. Now, current residents have joined together to beautify the park once again and rehab the area's historic homes.
I bought an old storefront and renovated it into a loft in 2003. I loved living in Lafayette Square for three great years! So many restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and amenities within walking distance, including Busch Stadium and the Metrolink.
I love this park so much, and Lafayette Square too!!!
Freak.
First time visitors to Lafayette Park might assume it was lovingly built and maintained by a team of "Imagineers" on loan from Disney World. On my first visit I was amazed that a city park so beautiful could actually exist without a cover charge to enter. My hat's off to those dedicated people who made it happen and kept it looking fantastic.
What a great story!
My father would take my brother and I to Lafayette park every Saturday..I always wanted to tour one of the many gorgeous houses there...haven't yet
