Burle marx flame is on my wishlist for when prices drop to about 50 😅 Don't know what's happening to my esqueleto, while the leaves are gorgeous it's only grown two since I got it from a cutting a year and a half ago. Now what's impressed me most is the obliqua peru, it has grown its third leaf since september. I know it's an acquired taste with its small form and delicate leaves, but if you like the look of it, I highly recommend getting one from a seller that you trust :)

Unsolicited advice - to increase albo variegation shine a directional growth light on a growing stem. But it needs to hit the stem not leaves. I went from a plant with less variegation than yours newest leaf to 3/4 white leaf in 5-6 leaves. It does work. But it needs to be a focused light, like a desk lamp with strong LED or grow light bulb. Or direct sunlight, but who can afford that :) It works for all chimeric variegations, harder to do when internodes are tight but for viners is a 100%.

Thais are so variable in terms of health. I got one an online shop a few months ago and it was growing in pure coco husk. Holy smokes that Thai was so healthy, but I traded it for some high end Hoyas. I regret that trade to this day. That Thai would put out leaves one after the other. I doubt I’ll get that lucky again 🥲

For the spider beasties, try 1 tsp neem oil per liter of water and add enough castile soap to dissolve the neem oil. Until it doesn’t pool on the surface basically. Water your substrate thoroughly with it and spray the whole plant down too. The plant will take up the toxin in neem oil and it will work as a systemic if you are consistent with it. Recently read a research paper on this, but can’t find it now 🤦‍♀️☺️

agree re spider mites. have you tried SNS 209? it doesn't kill them outright, but once the plant takes up enough, the spider mites (and likely other biting pests) don't eat the plant -- it's made from rosemary.

Hi Alice, I have big Thai in soil and small in pon. They both grow fine but in pon Im able to control more watering. You need to repot it in much bigger pot if you want the leaves to sized up.And I mean not one size up. Id repot in something 3 times bigger than current pot to see a difference. Good luck.

Ugh it’s craaaazy how I have the exact opposite experience with Monstera omg. They’re my easiest growing aroids followed by Philodendron and then I kill Anthurium like no other. Also, the Esqueleto is my hardest Monstera!! You have such a lovely mix - wishing you all the growth vibes with these babies. I’ve had the best luck with Monstera (albos and thais) with 70/30 coco/perlite

I have such a love/hate relationship with thin leaf Monsteras.
I need a plant to be super exceptional if it’s that quick to tell on me when I fall short with it’s care and the ones I’ve had (and since gifted) were not exceptional enough.
The thicker the leaf the better in every way - they’re soooo pretty.
I overloved my first Albo cutting but worked it out with my second and third. Glad I didn’t give up.
The green from is definitely a favorite and aways will be. She gives and asks so little in return. Great plant for growing 😉 confidence and nice for validation that you do know what you’re doing.

Ugh spider mites … I found some on my Calatheas today, I sprayed them with an insecticide and jumped in and am treating the with a systemic pesticide. My last neon dieffenbachia had mealy bugs but in both cases I caught them at the beginning of the infestation. I can’t take out all my plants to spray them down every week 1/2 -2 weeks. Especially my regular Monstera, my TC and my Albo, I love those soooo much! Just started using granules today. Lasts 2 months. Let’s see but I hear your frustration!

As for the seeds - I don't find seeds that incredible, after all, we come from single cells too. What I find incredible is that the plants are essentially immortal. You can clone them indefinitely and there is nothing preventing them from carrying exactly the same genetic material forever. You can't do that with animals (or us). The oldest living organism described so far is an aspen tree grove in Utah where they've found living tissue over 80 000 years old. And if the environment allows it, it can just keep growing, sprouting new trees from the rhizome forever (yes, I've read The Overstory, it's pure magic). I consider myself an atheist but sometimes I wish I was a Celt living in a native forest, just walking around and worshipping trees :)

I have an esqueleto that I got recently from a friend and it was a top cut with about 4 large leaves that I put on a pole but all the new growth was grown staked and the growth got a lot smaller. It could be the change of environment but who knows 🤷‍♀️ the plan now is to chop it back down and stay on top of extending the pole 😅

  • @iddybiddyladybugleeza262

I thought I had more monstera’s but my philodendrons has really grown way more!
My 1st Thai the roots grew out the drainage holes & I didn’t notice & thought it needed water but in reality i drowned the poor plant. I was just devastated & now I’m on #2
My albo, we had a crazy heatwave last summer & lost its leaf & so I went ahead an bought a new one but have them growing together in a pot.

I wish you had better a experience with monstera. I bought one Thai that was so basic and basically became crème brûlée, one beautiful albo that rooted perfect in water and is booming, and one albo adansonii that’s kinda annoying with too much color but doing fine. So funny how different specimens grow so differently and we all have different experiences. ❤

  • @kkmeilicke
    @kkmeilicke Před rokem +1

I definitely agree on the easiness of Monstera esqueleto. I've had much better luck with mine than I've had with adonsonii. It's really cool that the Burle Marx flame is getting more accessible, but it's a little too spindly for me--holding out for an affordable sierrana (which may be a while).

@@youdontevengrowhere I'm currently using them in my whole apartment, which I keep at 68 degrees. The ones outside my greenhouse cabinet are definitely slower and less active but they did eliminate a spider mite infestation on my blood orange tree! I went a little nuclear after finding thrips on my Rio and a week in I'm actually not seeing any more. I definitely think it's worth at least trying once or twice!

Spidermites probably stay in the sinus because they are succers (i'm a french speaker and we call them "piqueur-suceur") and the area where they can find the most soft and full of sap is near the sinus (just a wild guess)

Im so sorry you are dealing with SM, they are the worst 😢 Can you get killer mite? I struggled with outbreaks here and there and it was really affecting my mental health. I would come back from working away 6 days a week and then have to wash down and treat hundreds of plants on my day off 😩 i tried all sorts of oils and washes specific to SM and all this did was make the leaves look awful, predatory mites and washing. I read the reviews on killer mite and others were saying they were dealing with them for years and this stopped them dead. I decided to invest in a bottle and I sprayed killer mite once in November and haven’t seen a pest in the house since… honestly it’s been the best thing I’ve ever bought! It’s the most toxic thing I’ve ever smelt but it kills the spider mites. Looking after my plants is so much more enjoyable now.
