- He’s best known for always getting dropped, and recently failed to hit 1000 watts in a max power challenge, but GCN presenter and keen amateur Ollie Bridgewood has been training hard(-ish) to banish these demons. With the help of the Wahoo SYSTM, Ollie has been working on his sprint, and now it’s time to see if he can finally break the 1000W barrier!

Do you have any big cycling goals that you're working towards?
Well done Ollie. My goal this year is also 1000 but for me it‘s VAM.
Getting back on the bike... I broke my neck 3 weeks ago 😋
2022w for 2022… I may need Ollie’s list 1:34
@@EJGilb ouch… 🤕
Goal this year is max 1500 watts at 300 ftp. And next month I got Levi’s gran Fondo in California! 134 miles, 13,000 feet of gain! 😬 wish me luck!
Ollie to me is basically a very strong every day man who is incredibly strong and is humble enough to poke fun at himself. We just continue to compare him to some ex-pros in his GCN colleagues. Keep working hard my friend. Congrats on the achievement. Ollie is genuinely proud of his new achievement and we are too. Thank you for inspiring the rest of us mere mortals.
Great job Ollie. You rock!
Glad to hear Ollie is inspiring you Frank!
@@gcn well, Ollie is the only one in GCN that we can actually relate to so him doing well is actually inspiring vs. some ex-pros doing well.
Lol, this is more like that TV series 'The diaries of Adrian Mole'.
@@gcn😊😊😊
I've always admired Ollie's humility, all while realizing how good of a rider he actually is.
Hes a good bloke...wish i could invite him to America and buy him dinner and chat...seems like good company.
Also, 1200 watts at his weight is admirable...its a good watts to pounds ratio for an enthusiastic amateur.
@@marcalvarez4890 he definitely is!
He seems to be very endurant.
The excuses bit is played for laughs, but "life come first" is a genuinely important message. It's healthy to acknowledge how outside factors can affect your success. But look, all that and the man still made it. What a champ!
Ollie complains about getting dropped, Ollie goes skiing, Ollie drops himself. But in all seriousness congratulations Dr Ollie, doubt I can do 1000Watts and you would definitely drop me, even on a cafe ride. Chapeau.
Well done Dr. Bridgewood, in spite of those little excuses 😉
My goal is to get back on the bike as I broke my tibia and fibula 6 weeks ago during a bike trip.
Thanks for the motivation! 👍
Ouch - all the best with your recovery Manuela! 💪
Ollie, you are my favorite GCN Presenter (where clearly there are so many amazing Presenters already). We can always count on you for some insight, inspiration, and--best of all--fun! BTW, you inspired a friend of mine to try Everesting on one of our local hills (for 16 hours, probably). Keep up the great work.
Great to hear! Glad you're enjoying the Ollie content!
Go on, Ollie! That number would easily be 1100 if measured on the road rather than a trainer. You might be able to drop Contador in a sprint too now!
Contador??…naaaah
@@user-re8jn7iz3f It wouldn't be his first time dropping Contador
Contador wouldn't stand a chance! 😂
Well done Ollie. Your self-deprecating humour is wonderful for the channel. Star!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying the content!
Ollie, totally amazing AND inspirational. Almost every video you do these days causes me to want to push myself that little bit harder.
Great to hear!
It's been 4 years since I used what used to be Sufferfest, but when Ollie mentioned Violator, it was incredible how fast that brought back so many memories of pain and anxiety.
Yes - it’s aptly named and triggers ptsd!!
Congrats Oli, nice work 💪💪💪
Loving the Wahoo systm myself 👌
Congrats!! Awesome achievement! Your vids are my faves!
Well done! I appreciate your willingness to try this knowing you could have months of jokes. You definitely deserve the inspiration prize this week.
Well done 👏🏻 !!! Very interesting to watch!!! Keep it up for cycling festival thingy!!!
Awesome dude I’m glad you hit the mark keep working out!!!
It was fun to your genuine excitement!! Cool !
Nice job Ollie. Videos like these are why I love GCN! Keep it up guys!
Thanks Paul!
Well done young Ollie, never doubted you would do it.
Nice work Ollie! Last week I was stressing because I didn't do any riding so I could take my son on a ski trip. For me, this video is a good reminder to not get discouraged when you miss your training goals. Life happens, just stay focused and keep working toward those goals whenever you get the chance. And have fun.
Congrats Ollie! I am relatively new to cycling. Covid weight gain inspired me to grab a roadbike and wahoo kicker around 6 months ago. I find it so interesting how each individual has their strengths and weaknesses. I am terrible as a an endurance athlete and my base fitness sucks (170FTP). I can put down around 1200 watts though so at least I can take the odd green jersey on Zwift to help stay motivated. The hard part for me is now focusing on training that base fitness and not just trying to build on the overall sprint power.
Well Done Ollie - top effort. I may have to have a lie down to recover from watching your efforts
Always knew you'd do it Ollie - well done.
Thanks David!
Awesome…. Well done Doc!
Congratulations, Ollie! Your clips are not just some of the most informative and entertaining, they're by far the funniest. Cheers! 🥂🍾
Thanks for the kind message Pablo - glad you're enjoying the content!
you da man Ollie! You make GCN a better place 👏🏻👍🏻💪🏻
Fantastic improvement, Ollie! Especially that you held over 1000w for at least 5 seconds.
thats it. i can do 1100w(or so zwift tells me) but for 3sec most. by 5sec im down to 800w
Amazing Ollie! Well done mate!
Congratulations!!
Cheers Dr. Bridgewood!
Ollie is a very good rider, and a very good presenter. Nice to see him be humble enough to embrace these kind of videos / features
I love Ollie’s ability to continue and push further to get better. I relate to him in the sense he is not an ex-pro but his consistency in training has placed him up their with one of my faves on the network.
Good job, keep inspiring us all!
Well done, Dr O!
7:51 that is not true in the slightest. The valsalva manoeuvre is an absolute necessary part of the initial "jump" to produce the maximum force. Look at any power lifter, Olympic weight lifter, track sprinter, etc. They all do it because generating that pressure is what keeps you stable.
Nice to see that ... Have a great day team GCN...
Bloody well done mate!
Way to go Ollie. Well done!
Congrats Ollie! Had no doubt that you’d be able to do it
Wout van Aert look out! Joking aside your achievement is commendable. That is serious output! Thanks much - you are very entertaining.
Well done. Just ordered a Kickr. Never measured my power. Should be fun. Always time to improve and have goals. Even at 65 🙂
Well done, man.
Congratulation on going the 1000 watt club!! The ski workouts did the trick 😁😁😁.
Well done
Well done! This is a goal I want to work towards myself.
You can do it William!
congrats on hitting your goal
Well done 👍🏽
Well done!!
Congrats!! Wish I had the equipment to measured my power output
Well done mate!
Awesome job Ollie!
Well done lad.
Congratulations!
Ollies plan inspired mine. Also a lightweight with no sprint. I hit 981 indoors recently so I know I'm close. Thanks for the inspiration!
Loved the Adam Buxton ending Ollie!
I am very impressed with ollie's calf muscles! Very inspiring and I can't wait to get back into some regular fitness work at the gym myself which was also disrupted due to moving house, work commitments, excuse #3, another excuse etc....
But honestly, who doesn't love Ollie?
Ollie - you should never doubt yourself. I have seen you improve your performances over the year and I had full confidence in you. Forget all about those "dropped" comments. You are a true athlete in my opinion!! Well done.👍
T
Love Dr Bridgewood
Awww Ollie! So proud of you!
He did it!
Well done Ollie, great video. Would you have got more power if you'd done the final test on the Wahoo bike like your initial runs? Was any power lost through movement of the bike on the Wahoo Rollr?
Well done, mate!
Well done Ollie, great job.
The great lesson from this video: always have a short list of excuses handy. Well done, Dr. B
I’ve been using Wahoo System for the exact opposite type of cycling to Ollie. 6 weeks in and I’ve improved, next 6 weeks will be harder going.
Well done Ollie! Keep training and make 1300-1500W your next target!
Happy for you, ollie!
Love you too Ollie, well done x
BYYYYEEEEEE
You've done it, Ollie!
This is good to know that there's hope for me yet! I'm a very similar cyclist to Ollie. Nearly same height/weight, have a similar ftp and also suck at sprinting. Very occasionally I hit just over a 1000W's but generally am in the 900's at the end of a race so basically just get passed by everyone. I'm just so bad I don't even bother training it.But I think that is going to change after seeing this series. Well done Ollie btw! Comfortably over 1000W's for 5seconds is a massive improvement!
Well done Ollie you reached for it and got it!
GOOD JOB, OLLIE!!!
Congrats Ollie. Now we need a chin-up competition between the GCN presenters. I reckon Ollie would drop them all
Love Ollie!
Way to go Ollie!!
Dude! Smashed it! I don’t think Ollie gives himself enough credit. He is a beast, tackling epic climbs and epic distances. And he dropped Alberto Freakin’ Contador! Chapeau!
Ollie is one of the most well groomed men on CZcams, his golden hair is always looking thorough. His barber knows his stuff and that look works for Yung Ollie🔥🔥🔥
Yay for Ollie!
Kudos Ollie!
Love you too Ollie.
Welldone Ollie!!
congrats ollie!
Right on Ollie! Representative of the majority of the population who need to fight to get in a daily workout to stay in shape. Very inspirational!
Kudos to Ollie. I thought he was an awful presenter and, to be honest, a bit silly in the videos at his last job. But since joining GCN he has got better and better, and is now a really great part of the GCN team, particularly with his humility and self deprecating humour. Fair play to you Ollie!
Nice work! Are you going to stay on the gains train?
nice one Ollie!
Well done Ollie!
Overweight me, watches Ollie month after month and wishes I someday be even 30% of the climber, endurance rider, and all around good guy he is.
Also me - goes out to the garage and hits 1,200 watts on the Kickr, enjoys a beer to celebrate us sharing this accomplishment.
All kidding aside, well done Ollie!
We are exactly the same. But still room to improve. I have set me the only halfway serious goal of matching Dan‘s crap moped on watts.
Haha cheers Josh!
Good job Ollie 👍
Nice Ollie, no one deserves it more than you. Nice guy, strong man.
Well done! :)
What I always find helpful with sprints in standing position or generally driving in the standing position: to aim with the toes in straight down direction to the ground. Therefore I'm more using the power from pulling up and my calfs. Don't know if that really makes sense though.
Well Done
thank you
Hi Ollie. Another great video. Worth remembering that power is calculated through two components that are multiplied together - torque (ie force through the pedals) and cadence. It’s not just about power - if you can move your legs faster you’ll be able to hit higher power outputs!
Well, in theory yes, but us humans have a pretty limited useful rpm range, eg. you can't just keep revving the engine up indefinitely. Most likely there's a fairly narrow range of optimal cadence for the short duration max. sprint, and going beyond that will only decrease the power output.
Great job, Ollie. It would have helped knowing what your baseline fitness was at the start of the training block versus what you ended up. Or at least what your previous max effort numbers looked like before now.
There's another video about that.
Well done! And it would be interesting to know how big the difference is between sitting down and standing up on the bike.
Anyone who knows a typical difference?
On the gym spinning bike I have reached ~850w when sitting down.
Great job Ollie! I broke the 1000W limit this week too!🤟🏻
Thanks and well done Jordy!!
Good lad.
Well done Ollie, I for one will be buying Wahoo stuff from hereon in
Congrats but why wasn’t the tests kept consistent by using the same kickr bike used in the initial test and an outdoors test as well?
Maassa seu video!
Um abraço e fique bem!
