I started planting morning glories over 20 years ago. I live in zone 5, they come back every year, with no effort. In fact both my neighbors dislike them. The grow inside my yard on my 6ft chain link fence. So oh well, I always just loved them. I have red, blue and violet.
Wow, too bad you don't have red, white and blue lol! We have wild morning glories here in MN that are white but the purple ones in the garden are my favorite.
@@noeditbookreviews They wrap themselves around other plants and strangle them. The word for them in Danish (where I live) is Bind-weed. Be careful when they re-seed because they spread like wildfire.

Morning Glory vines are thicker and may have small hairs and Bindweed flowers only come in like 2 colors pink and white. And is more native to Europe and Asia but you did say you were Danish right?

Incredible image quality and man, your voice is so soothing, you sound like the Bob Ross of flowers. I planted glories from Dollar Tree in a tent on 2.23. They like to stay dry until wilting and then get about a quarter cup water, which is pretty much every morning. As soon as frost passes, Iâd like to give them a permanent pot for their life cycle. Do you think theyâd like an upside down tomato trellis in a big pot on my covered porch or would they prefer to dangle down a hanging pot with partial shade?
The morning glorys you have with dark purple are called grandpa ott the light colored blue on package is called heavenly blue which appears the seed co got wrong seeds in the packet, I have many colors there is actually a yellow morning glory but are very rare to find in the states they actually are grown in japan philipines & other asian countries.

you soak morning glories before you plant the seeds to help them germinate faster- in the late fall-e early spring I sit and harvest all the seeds left in the pods from the winter and replant again in spring! I have so many seeds now and I actually enjoy collecting them!
âStratifyingâ is the fancy word for pretending itâs winter for your seeds by keeping them in the fridge. U can soak or scuff ur seed coat with a rolled tube of sandpaper before planting to help out the embryo inside. If planted too shallow, their coats donât come off right away, but they often do on their own. I add a drop of water to lube em up a bit if that happens. Paper towel germination is great for bitty seeds, like lavender or precious secular beans, but itâs not necessary for pea-sized or bigger that come out of a packet. Those seeds are genetically modified to produce. Most of our grocery produce is beyond dead and modified to never expire, but instead oxidize.
I live in Maine and incredibly I got my 1st blue morning glory in late June! But haven't seen another one since. Purple pink and Violet yes but none of the big blues since then. Strange.
So dam beautiful. Those flowers always felt like a heavenly presence! I grow them the same ones in this video. Tomorrow I want to find a beautiful climbing one that would look great against a black background. I love â€ïž these purple ones but I got a black wall trellis and I need a brighter or lighter color., any suggestions? I got the purple ones growing against my white wall.
Heavenly Blue are a lighter color baby blue, these were labeled as such but turned out to be the dark purple ones. So i guess, good luck getting what it says on the packet LOL. I have also seen a wild type that are pure white, but I dont know about finding those seeds.
Can you cut the top of the vine above a leaf to produce branching? I'm wondering because I have a seedling morning glory and the top of the vine got snipped off accidentally by a fan.
Oh my, are these morning glories from the seeds you sowed a couple of months back? If so, they've grown really fast and I love the incredible purple colors on them. We do have them here and I've seen them growing in people's garden. In fact, I've a fondness for creepers and I've 2 red creepers just waiting to be repotted but no trellis so they're just there waiting for the right moment and spot. Too much to do at the new house.đ
Yes, these are from the seeds wee planted in spring, I love how they have filled in. Luckily you dont have to rush with your plants, here winter is on the way so there is a lot to do before the big freeze.
So I was wondering why my morning glory seedlings were drooping. They all came up in 4 days in a small greenhouse starter pot. They began drooping and I wasn't sure why. I just replanted them into a pot and gave them a stick.......but I'm going to need more than sticks I see. Thank you for the video. Those are some nice detailed camera shots of the pollen.

I dont think Morning glories propagate very well, if yours are growing but not yet flowering, just give them a few more weeks because they are a later blooming flower. Soon you should have a wall full of them!
I've heard this is something they do best. In the Fall you might find a vine which has contacted the ground and has grown roots. Those can often be separated then potted or moved else where. They're going to have a shortened growing season and may not flower unless brought in. If brought in and wintered over they can jump start your trellis in the spring. Do several, Best luck!
I started some indoors and they were a total disaster. Almost all of them died. They grew funny inside. They grew much taller than they do outside. Maybe I didn't give them enough light and they were straining to get it.

The seed packets are most likely very frequently mislabeled. I had the same thing happen to me. Saving seeds from these I always get the same dark purple flowers, so I do think they bloom true to seed, just have to find a new seed supplier.

So this is a weird thing that I have in my yard and this spot was going to be my new Garden Bed but something weird happened. Somehow morning glories began growing there. I never have grown morning glories before and never could. But the weird thing is that. They seem to always come back each year, just like a perineal! Weird right?!
I wonder if birds are bringing seeds from a neighbors garden, I have some popping up in my tomato containers, probably from seeds that survived the winter.
@@GiveitaGrow thank u very mush for the answer, sadly they die than.. Aw.. :) sad, i ordered yesterday Hawaiian baby's woodrose, from madagascar, i'll be waiting the right moment to plant them than, which would be the best month? Avril ? And, if we takr them inside, in the winter, does they die? if we di them in a pot, and take them indoor in the cold season, would she die? Thanks for answer, i apreciate
@@GiveitaGrow Would be nice if we could grow on a consitent scale, if them, all year long, its sertainly possible, even if they die, just plant bew ones :) yeah, sounds coool, i cannot wait to own my Hawaiian baby's woodrose from madagascar, they're stronger than others
Check if that is an annual or perennial. Annuals die after producing seeds, so they are best grown outdoors so they can get more sun. You can start the seeds indoors in early spring, then plant them out once the weather improves (also check your hardiness zone). Lastly, protect them once they are outdoors, acclimate the seedling, cover recent transplants so they dont wilt in the sun, fence them in if you need to, and give them lots of room to vine out. Good luck!
If the leaves are still wilted after watering them, they could be getting too hot. A little wilt during the day is normal, but too much could mean they need a shady spot.
I laughed out loud when you said you hope your flowers were pollinated, once you have a single morning glory, you will have them forever! They are beautiful and I enjoy them but not in my garden or lawn, but the morning glow doesn't give a damn what I like or want.
Great video :) I have a question. I figured if anyone would know, it would probably be you. I'm germinating a variety of different flower seeds, preparing for summer on my balcony. Two of the varieties (or is it 'species?') are morning glory and sweet pea. I was successful with morning glory last summer, but first time trying to grow sweet peas. I was wondering if sweet peas and morning glory would do okay growing in the same pot.
@@GiveitaGrow Hey, thanks for responding :) The seedlings are almost big enough now so I'm going to transplant them. Seeded nasturtiums, cosmos, four o'clocks, poppies, sweet peas, dwarf morning glory, morning glory, wildflowers and delphiniums, all are growing well except for the delphiniums. Tried seeding delphiniums twice, but nothing grew.
I sowed morning glory seeds in first week of March Mow it's 8th may My plants still not flowering I put Vermi compost and cow dung Please guide I'm in delhi Its 42 degrees mow
If the plant is still growing, you may just need to wait a bit longer. I let them dry out a bit between waterings, that can promote some plants to flower. More sun is always good. Keep an eye out for spent flowers amongst the leaves, they could be night blooming.
It sounds like itâs too cold for them to start making flower buds. I think they like it to be in the upper 60s at least before theyâll start making their flower buds
I disagree, I love the music you used in the Winter attempt to grow morning glories. It sounded somewhat Japanese ... make that definitely Japanese. May I ask, could you do a time lapse of a flower blooming from its very beginning of course. I am the biggest Morninglory lover and have grown all different colors but the Royal blue is still my favorite.
Timelapse of these would be great! I have tried a few times, but you have to get up super early and if there is any wind at all it dosnt look so good. I have seen a few trying to bloom but trapped in a leaf, and when you free them they bloom in 1 second!
@@GiveitaGrow I just ordered a new willow lattice for (her). I am just concerned cause the leaves r a bit yellow. We have had a lot of cooler weather and overcast skies. And the gentleman that gave me this beautiful plant said the fact that I planted her directly east is why leaves r yellow (ish) . Not all of them but some. Forgive my comment . I actually have learned things from this vid and will give it a like. Now I know blooms only last a day. I know to untangle the vines and guide them towards the deck and the lattice once it gets here. Could u possibly address the yellow (ish) leaves? The giver of this plant stated that she is not getting enough sun and that a tree is blocking a lot of the sun. But the tree is not that big and the sun will soon be coming back slowly towards the south and she will be getting lots more. Also learned that the spiral blooms r actually blooms but that was kind of a no brainer, yet still appreciated. Any fertilizer tips? I filled the gaps when I planted with miracle grow that will work for up to six months or so it says on the bag. uuummmm?? If they r vines that look like they r innertwining in groups should I leave them alone cause they r mating? Thank u Sooo very much in advance for replying to this very long comment!!!
Yellow leaves can be caused by many things, inconsistent watering, too much or too little fertilizer. I would first try a mild liquid fertilizer when you water. Do give them time to dry out a little between waterings so the soil is not always wet. The plant should be ok in low sun, it just wont flower too well. If your vines are intertwining, that means they are growing well. I like to unwind and spread them out for more flowers.
So, I think wondering minds want to know how? Cuz I have been growing them for over 15 yrs and whatever this video was about, all I saw was Japanese beetle eaten leaves on a grandpa ott morning glory and someone trying to twine a vine lower then it was on a 'garden feature' apparently not understanding that they reach for the sky.. as we all do đ

Can I mix them with the nasturtiums, purple and yellow/ orange could look fantastic
That will probably work fine, and look great!
Yeah, but don't eat any. They're poisonous đ€Ż
Does it die after the season? Or does it last a life time? Thanks to answer
Mine always die after the season. They produce lots of seeds and self sow like a weed!
Good luck!
What do you if the leaves are wilted?
If the leaves are still wilted after watering them, they could be getting too hot. A little wilt during the day is normal, but too much could mean they need a shady spot.
In all .. Getting lucky with the right seed Bach...
So after they bloom, does the flower fall off?
yes, then the seeds start to form
i have 21 morning glories in my garden. i have had only one bloom. a single flower out of 21 morning glories. what the hell am i doing wrong?
I dont know, you could try fertilizer. More sun is always good too.
What colors thanks you
Thanks
They are not Clarks Heavenly blue. Someone has mislabeled them. They are Grandpa Otts or possibly Star of Yelta.
Beautiful video my morning glory doesnât have any flower itâs big and itâs 6 years old . What should I do?
If you can give it more sun with a taller lattice to climb or a new location that might help.
Molly Salout
Nitrogen fertilizer will give you greens I think phosphorus encourages blooms
I missed the tricks
I miss the tips
Oh...wrapping vines got it...
All I heard is a story about YOUR flowers.
Germinate seeds on a damp paper towel before planting, keep them warm. Give them something to climb, train the vines where you want them to go.
So rude man.
How often to water morning glory
Here in Minnesota, I let the rain water them. I only water by hand when they look extremely thirsty.
Has anyone ever told you you sound a bit like Nathan Fillion? I like it.
Nope, thats cool, thanks.
My morning glories haven't bloomed yet...and it's mid aug
Tips and tricks? Should you get rid of the dying leaves and insect eaten leaves? Clip them?
Sure, if the pot is big enough or you feed them enough. I plant lots of things together in the same pot.
Catapillars are having a feast lol
Japanese beetles do most of the damage, and I thought the leaves were poisonous!
Would they be suitable for window box, i would like to see grow downward..if that is possible. pleasant voice and no irritating music background
I am not sure, but I say go for it. just keep up on the watering and feed them now and then.
nope...only upwards
Your voice is really nice wtf
Thank you!
Yeah, so calming and relaxing. I came to this video because I've bought morning glory seeds for my aunt.
I sowed morning glory seeds in first week of March
Mow it's 8th may
My plants still not flowering
I put Vermi compost and cow dung
Please guide
I'm in delhi
Its 42 degrees mow
If the plant is still growing, you may just need to wait a bit longer. I let them dry out a bit between waterings, that can promote some plants to flower. More sun is always good. Keep an eye out for spent flowers amongst the leaves, they could be night blooming.
I did all of the above
It sounds like itâs too cold for them to start making flower buds. I think they like it to be in the upper 60s at least before theyâll start making their flower buds
Too much fertilizer?
Can moring glories be grown indoors
Probably, if they get lots of sun. I might try to grow some indoors from seed this winter.
@@GiveitaGrow Ok I WILL BUY SOME SEEDS TODAY, I HAVE AVERY SUNNY SPOT. THANKS.
No
I get sad when flower close
Grandpa Otts dude.
Thanks, I dont know why the labeled them as Clarks Blue
Dude you planted papa otts along with heavenly blue, or the seed company screwed up.
Looks more like Grandpa Ott morning glories rather than Heavenly Blue.
Those aren't the Heavenly Blue variety...those are Grampa Ott's
Where's the tips and tricks? Still waiting..
There in there.
I don't have a green thumb đđ can somebody please help
Pre-sprout the seeds indoors and keep them warm. That should give you a head start.
get a green sharpy
B
they will come back>>>YEAR AFTER YEAR
Do not over-fertilize, or the vine may grow more foliage than flowers
Great tip, thanks!
Those are not Heavenly Blue those are grandpa off. If you start off with wrong information I can't watch the rest of the video
Thats what it said on the seed packet, I was duped!
Grow like crazy... Have massive roots,, down deep and spread.. That why,, won't do that well in pot's....
Mine bloom for a day then die
So where r the tips and tricks?

I contend they have consciousness...I mean moreso than most flowers. And the proof...is when you ingest their seeds.
nothing ??????
You need to rip the âfruitâ off . Better off buying more seeds rather then forcing your plant to produce seeds...less fruit , better flowers
I usually like to just let them go, but I will try that with one of this years plants.
Literally no tips or tricks in this video
Kills. Beginning stage.. Cancer of the pancreas...
I got high off these
So, I think wondering minds want to know how? Cuz I have been growing them for over 15 yrs and whatever this video was about, all I saw was Japanese beetle eaten leaves on a grandpa ott morning glory and someone trying to twine a vine lower then it was on a 'garden feature' apparently not understanding that they reach for the sky.. as we all do đ
@@amyzastrow8464 what do you mean?
Not a single tip or trick. What the hell man
Sprout them on a damp paper towel, keeping them warm. Make sure they have something to climb. Train the vines where you want them to go.... ect
Tips and tricks to tell us that we can wrap them around stuff ? Really đ
