I saw Sun Ra in Berkeley in the late 70's. He did this rap that went something like '"as long as you tell yourself the truth if you win you win and if you loose you still win!" There was a young black guy playing an eight foot long cunga drum, standing on a chair, and for some reason, seeing me in the audience digging the haps he motioned to me, a white kid, to get up on stage with Sun Ra and a whole band of intense visionary musicians and play that drum! I was too shy and I have always regretted not doing it!
+Fred G Could there be anything to that? Isotopes are atoms with the same weight but different densities. How to shift from one atomic density to another? Hmmm . . .Of course if isotopic transportation doesn't work I cold use transeliquilation, which is maybe how he got there.
I saw SunRa & his intergalactic arkestra in 1976 at Kent State University/Mbari Mbayo Theater for a whole $5.00! Talk about an experience...lights music incense 90 minutes. AMAZING
I first heard these words from this scene as a capella in a trance music track, decided to look up the words in google, saw that this movie referenced, and finally put a name behind the words, Sun Ra. Looked him up in google and discovered a plethora of music I had not heard before. Amazing how accidental discoveries like this can lead to a discovery of art and music both of which are inspirational and ingenious in their design and above all else, timeless. R.I.P. Sun Ra and thank you for sharing your artistic ingenuity with the world.
True art Integrity as well. He did what he felt right because he felt compelled to make it. I don't sense or feel any compromise in Sun Ra music. It is in and of it's own; for the sake of making unique music.
There will never be another like Sun Ra. I try to spread his Gospel, by sneaking on his music when people visit, or at parties and such... Without exception, someone always comes up to me and asks what this insanely awesome music is... He's on a better planet than us now. Great upload, thanks.
My take on this is the multi layered connections he made with the narrative, science, philosophy, and emotion. Mirror Face is a good listener. We could all use a friend that hold the mirror up
The music is different here, the vibrations are different here, not like planet Earth;Planet Earth sound of guns, anger, frustration. One of the best sayings ever!
that was unbelievable. he was a trip. i saw sun ra and the arkestra in austin texas at the world armadillo headquarters 1978?? the cat was out there. great band and totally unique.
I just watched this movie on a day when SpaceX launched the Endeavor and polics cars were burning in the city. This guy, Sun Ra, i think he may have been on to something
God was this some beautiful cinematography. As low budget as this probably was, you really get the feeling of some strange foreign planet. Mirror face guy is awesome too.
Sun Ra was so into the future it will take being from the future to understand where he was coming from in the past. I still have a hard time dealing with his sounds.
If you look at some of the most effective bandleaders in the world you'll find Duke, Count, and Sun Ra. He made his band move in together to save money. Being part of his band was described as "cultish" by some.
Also on the back of the elliocentric(1) world of Sun Ra album, there are some highly sophisticated drawings of the orbirts of all the planet in our solar system. And when you compare the two, (book and Sun Ra cover) the drawing are representative of the the law that RA talks in the book. Now thats weird. If you wanna know more on the subject. Listen to Nassim Haramein- rogue valley metaphysical library(2003). It WILL CHANGE your Life ! Promise Love to All ! :)
@ppc1989ark Very nice Sir. It looks like by what you are saying, is that he wanted to introduce people to different spiritual concepts, and to do that he created his own fantastical background story. It looks like he had some very unique influences as a child such as spending time at a masonic lodge reading their literature. You must have seen my comments on a couple Ram Dass videos lol...I just started reading 'Be Here Now' and decided to look him up.
@DoktorSick YOUR DEAD ON IT, those who need drugs to be creative are not using innate creativity but relying on something external to help them be more creative. Big problem for some musicians who run out of core material.
sun ra was a very well educated man with a unique musical and philosophical aproach. If thinking out of box equals taking drugs to you - I feel deeply sorry for you ..
Up and coming singer Janelle Monae MUST have seen this film, because her "Tightrope" video features the same mirror-faced sentries(?) seen here. Check it out, people. It ROCKS the dump!
I am White and I absolutely love his music...Sun Ra is God an alien who came to earth in human form to try and show a better way only problem is most of us did not understand it at the time and still don't - I know I do and Sun was a genius!
@Digilsd actually thats a urban myth, Crick wasnt under LSD, a chemistry nobel price winner was indeed under LSD when he figured out some great contribution to biochemistry (google it for more nfo). he publicly said lsd played a big role on him coming to that discovery. LSD came from a "well educated man" who now sits beside buddah in a shinny paradise way beyond, RIP ALBERT HOFFMANN forever in our hearts
Okay, bro. When you invent your "teleportation" machine, you let us know. "Space is the place with the helpful hardware folks." Yeah, I've seen the commercial.
I think many hip middle class europeans (and japanese) like to mythologize retro 'pop culture' and that may include black music and film. many jamaican artist such as the legendary lee 'scratch' perry, play to a audience too young to remember the music.
"Equation-wise, the first thing to do is to consider time as officially ended. We work on the other side of time." I love that.
Studies have shown that, tragically, over 35% of people today still do not know that space is the place. Like and share to raise awareness.
You made me laugh a lot. Thanks.

Far out
Do you NOW understand how irrelevant this experience was? His home town doesn't remember him.
@@robertowen1956 Do you NOW understand how irrelevant you are to my comment?
@@DagaanGalakticos I am the most RELEVANT individual you've ever met. What was your comment again?

What was the song? I remember the lyrics and the song but can't find it. For some reason the tune popped back into my head.
Might be Power Source - Goaway
True art Integrity as well. He did what he felt right because he felt compelled to make it. I don't sense or feel any compromise in Sun Ra music. It is in and of it's own; for the sake of making unique music.
Thank you Kirk Knight for bringing me to this greatness
Exactly.

Sun Ra is the deepest musician to grace this earth during this modern time - no one is deeper.
"We work on the other side of time "
I love wierd 70's stuff.

Well, he didn't give white people any choice. He was pretty specific about them not being welcome.
But later he said the better idea is to teleport the whole planet there. Like it or not we are on the planet too. I'm ready, let's go.
