- Here we see green woodworking expert Justin Sanford demonstrate traditional spoon carving. Justin shares his obvious skill and enthusiasm for this work as he tells us about the specific tools and techniques he adopts to produce these beautiful, useful items. From selecting the `found` wood for its particular properties, to setting the tradition in a social and historical context, Justin`s respect for the wood and for his craft is clear. / justin.sanford.9469 www.bathandwest... There is nothing more enjoyable to watch than a person who has found a work that they truly love and shares it.
This was indeed a pleasure to watch!
True
What a positive chap, so good to see he's sharing the love with the nippers too.
I've carved some spoons but this is the first I've seen the armor. I've seen leather bibs and stuff. Pretty cool.
Such a good energy in that lad, absolutely amazing work.

This guys enthusiasm is brilliant. Could listen to him all day. 👍
Thank you, that was the best spoon carving video I ever saw. He is an old original. A pleasure just listening to him
What a lovely man. And nice spoons, of course :)
It's great to see a person as yourself carving wonderful spoons and teaching in the old ways so to preserve history and provide a functional art piece. Thank you Budd !
Justin, you're a national treasure! Keep up the good work.
Had to come back and watch this again and enjoy it again. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos Justin.
This man is a pure delight! Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
I'm starting to spoon carve next February with an online class. This is very encouraging to see what can be made. Love the "apron".
Very enjoyable. Justin is obviously in his element!
I could sit and listen to this man all day obviously while carving a spoon
I thoroughly enjoyed this guy and his speech! I'm from the southern USA do I have my own accent, but this was great.
I wish that you lived next door to our home. What a gentle personality you have. Good explanations, too.

An honest and noble art!, beautiful spoons and the perfect man for the job. Thank you Mr Sanford for making and sharing this post, I'm going to have me a go at carving a spoon !
What a kind, fun, wholesome man.
Such a rare thing to see a person appreciating older times, techniques and history. Well, I mean there's a lot more people like that in Europe ,but it's real rare in America :/... And he even gives it off to the next generation! Amazing. I just got into spoon carving, and my first spoon is more like a shovel, but I won't give up.
That was a great watch to start my day in dreary foggy Breakfast Winter time Bulgaria. Loved the positive informative delivery.
Samwell Tarly gave up being a Maester and took up Carving the Spoon!
his voice is therapeutic.
exactly!
What a delight. 11/10
Well you're a delight to watch and listen to, thank you very much.

I could listen to him talk spoons all day.
Great video! THanks for taking us along!
Blessings

How could you not love this guy
I`ve never seen a chest protector made out of wood before, but! I think it`s a great idea especially if it stops you from taking a chisel in the chest or a slash. I`m seriously considering making one myself, because no matter how careful you can be, It`s the slip you never ever expected to happen that can cause you a serious if not fatal injury, so yes, a brilliant Idea. Not very pretty probably but, highly effective and could prevent oneself from getting hurt badly no matter how careful one can be.
"a lot of them have never seen a log before unless its on minecraft"
NEWSFLASH:
He's right
when most of the worlds populations live in major cities where there are no trees(not those decorative things on the sidewalks)...
What a cool guy 😎 very cool, thanks for the info

You know this guy has a good sense of humour.
This guy is great! I hope I can become half as good of a spoon carved as him one day. I didn't know that bit about sanding either.
Great sense of humor, he has!
Quality ☺. Loved it. What a top geezer 🖒
Nice to see you teaching the craft to younger students, I taught wood shop in our high schools. We did not do carving. Any way I am learning to carve spoons, I on't want to got to power tools just hand tools. I like your Bowler hat . Thank you for what you are doing

Noice.
Right on man 😎
He's a great salesman. I'd buy his spoons.
what great video
This guy clearly knows spoons and carving. He could talk all day about it.
..."What CAN I do?" If more people who are unemployed would ask this question, we would have so many more wonderful, talented, happy people like this guy. And children would have the chance to learn to use their hands.
Foolishly promised a year 6 boy that I'd teach him to carve a spoon next week. Not such a problem but all 27 children in the club might want to so trying to get into the mood. This video has really helped. Thank you!
I love ❤️ your apron! Wish you had covered how you made it.
its made from whittled Ash,in modern speak it would be called 'modular',if a bit breaks just whittle another bit.
brillent!
The Welsh spoon carver hit my heart I have been told that I am welsh and I have a broken leg and I have been working on some spoon s great story
Somebody told you you have a broken leg? I'd check with my doctor if I were you - laypeople don't know diddly about medicine.
He’s a treasure!
I enjoy working with the kids in our schools woodshop
Do you sell your spoons? They are beautiful!
Does this man (Justin Sanford) have his own channel.
You know what, I've been thinking of what to finish my spoons with (ordering my Beavercraft S13 beginning next month). I'm going to try a product which probably no man has ever heard of - Bio Tissue Oil! It's made in Switzerland for the dermatological industry and so why shouldn't it be good for wood? Anyway I'm going to give it a bash...
4:13 so interesting, i want to try it
That was a GREAT video! I was most definitely born on the wrong continent.
Good morning sir, a cordial greeting from the Loreto region, Peru. What hand tools Should I have, should I have adze, measure? Should I have gouges, measure? Ax, measure? Please help me, I am going to move into the jungle where there is wood and kitchen utensils such as plates, spoons, bowls, etc. do not arrive. God bless you greatly.
Hi, I would like to know if it is a Nic Westermann axe that Justin used. If not, is it possible to know the name of the blacksmith and how to reach him? Thanks.
Hilarious bloke
This was great, thanks, I been tryin to find out about "weekend woodworking projects download" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Denia Diyictoria Bulldozer - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my cousin got excellent results with it
бронежелет хороший супер!

Want to make some long handled 'Honey Spoons' to get my (own Bees) 🐝 Honey🐝 from Deep Jars.
And use the Beeswax on the Spoons ! 😎
Anyone know where to buy his axe?
he sounds like samwell tarly
The ladel has eluded me for years
He is a druid with wooden armour and proficiencies with artisan tools and handaxe
I wonder what his preferred wildshape is?
@@WOODLANDSTV ahahah I think brown bear, but I'm not sure
Ron Swanson is swooning over this man, rightly so.
just me or does this guy sound like samwell tarly
The minecraft joke xD
And you don't take yourself too seriously!😂
