Lyrics:
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high

Today is my 28 year old son’s 22nd anniversary since he passed away from cancer, before he went with our Lord I asked him what his favorite song was, and thinking he was going to name a heavy metal song I was surprised to hear him say “ Sunshine on my shoulders”, so I always remember my son when I hear this song and I always listen to it on his anniversary! I miss him so much!
Beautiful tribute. My favorite song too! God bless you! 🌞
Amazing 👏 song 🎵 for him ❤️.
❤
Missing him can be very heartbreaking. I pray the good Lord holds you in His arms and consoles you. May you feel your son's kiss on your forehead through the wind and may Jesus help you find peace of heart and mind.
Your son is still with you 😊 every single day ❤
Anyone who's listen to this song in 2024?

Yes, right now, it's beautiful

John Denver was a gift to humanity and a talented beautiful soul indeed. He is sorely missed 😢. Rip John. Gone but never forgotten.

My dad used to sing this song. He can sing. He had a beautiful voice. People would circle around him to hear him. May he Rest In Peace. I miss my dad. Happy Father’s Day dad.

RIP Dad's! 😂
I’m sure he misses you too❤.

My mom used to sing this to me before I went to sleep when I was little. From the day I was born to the day she died she called me sunshine. Rest in peace, mom. I love you.
;,(
That memory must be so sweet! Thanks for share her love!😢
Oh man, here come the water works! God damn, that's a tear jerker. I still have my mom, but recently lost my dad. It's been rough. Part of growing up and becoming my own adult I guess. Still doesn't make it any easier. Thank you for sharing such a special memory. Your momma must have been a good one.
I legit rarely cry, but you made me
I sing this to my son every night before bed
My wife was battling cancer, on one of her good days, she wanted to go to Disney World, she loved the atmosphere. We got home that evening, I sang this to her as I put her into bed. Three months later she lost her battle and I lost her love. “If I had a day that I could give you, I’d give to you a day just like today”.
I'm currently battling breast cancer so I understand this. When the good days are there you just want to do what you have wanted to do before you were diagnosed. I have my last chemo next week. Let's pray the MRI is good in a few weeks ahead of my surgery and then radiation. I'm hoping to put all this behind me. I'm sorry your wife lost her battle with whatever cancer she battled. Hope you think of her when you hear this song forever and keep the great memories you made together and they make you happy like the sunshine on your shoulders
@@p34piper praying for you and good results in the future. Tracy had pancreatic cancer, there is never a good kind or an easier kind of cancer, it’s all a battle. Praying all the best to you. She was 46 years young.
You didn't lose her love. It's just waiting for you. Godspeed friend.
Emocionante. Amor eterno Amor. Isso não é uma ficção. É a vida como ela é.
May GOD REST HER DEAR SWEET SOUL & May GOD Be With & Watch Over You & Her Family & Friends FOREVER
John Denver was the best! I have all his music, but this song, "Sunshine on my Shoulders" always brings tears to my eyes. I love sunshine. It's Heaven to me along with blue skies. And I know John Denver is singing to the Angels in Heaven! I hope to hear him when I get there. God Bless John Denver forever!
I sure hope he is there too! ❤
Saudades do meu amor 😂
I'm 82 yrs in this world. Never want to leave. Sunshine always makes me happy. 3:47
Wow that’s nice. I’m happy for you so when was the first time you fell in love with the song ?
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Simple, clear, and heartfelt.
Reminds me of the late Jim Croce's beautiful ballad, "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song" (Apr 1974), that hit #9. "Sunshine" was John Denver's first #1 at the beginning of that same month. A memorable duo, who both died in airplane crashes. R.I.P. to these unique singer-songwriters!
I like Annie’s song or leaving on a jet plane a bit more but I agree
Beautiful heartfelt comment. Thank you.
Certainly is Jono . . .
.... I agree, my friend - it’s just beautiful, yes xxx
I played this song at my daughter’s funeral 14 years ago. She was 22 months when she passed and she was our ray of sunshine and guardian angel. I can hardly listen to this song without getting choked up.
God bless you. Not depressing at all my the spirit of God's eternal sunshine fill your soul
No words can express my sorrow for the loss of your baby. God bless.
😭
So sorry buddy
Heaven needs cherubs, and sometimes our families must give up one of our own to fill their ranks.
This song reminds me of the night I became a father for the first time. My newborn daughter slept in my arms while we listened to this song together while my wife slept. It's one of my most cherished memories ❤
My twin sister Claire played guitar and we sang all of John Denver's songs together. Claire is in Heaven now.
I love how John's comment platform isn't toxic, mean or anything. Just beautiful people, and beautiful thoughts. Good day, everyone.

Both happy and sad.
It was written from the soul and touches the soul.
Let music help heal and renew.
Music is salve and poetry a balm , for the afflictions of this world when things go wrong
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Music on…..world off.
right on!
Beautiful
Absolute, pure vocal perfection. You just don't see talent like this these days.
It seems like this song has a special place in everyone’s heart. I’m 15 now I used to listen to this when I was 7. Music like this is different than anything else
It’s great to know more young people are out there listening to this. I’m 46 now. Born in 1977, I was raised on John Denver…The man was literally EVERYWHERE by then. Music, movies (Oh God!), The Muppet Show, even the PMRC hearings with Dee Snider and Frank Zappa to fight censorship in music.
I’m also an aviation nerd, so it’s neat to know that not only was John a pilot, but his father actually set speed records in the B-58 Hustler bomber decades ago.
Krispin, if you love this stuff, you might want to check out The Chad Mitchell Trio, Cat Stevens, The Kingston Trio, Bud and Travis, Joe and Eddie (There’s a Meetin’ Here Tonight), Jim Croce…there is just SO much incredible music out there that most people your age and mine are totally unaware of. It’s just waiting to be rediscovered!
@@FloridaManMattyI agree with this 1,000%
(P.S. thanks for letting me know about John Denver’s dad! I had no idea his aviation background… I’ll have to Google it. So Interesting!)
That's realy absolut gorgeous...in your age ? I'm 66 and this song was a very special in my twenty's... Thank you for let me know that JD and his musik, is still recognized and lives on! Love from Brazil !!!

Sim essa música mexe muito com os nossos corações
This song is a huge lesson: you don't need much to be happy. Sunshine is a metaphor for life, being alive, being able to see a new day. Thank you very much for such a gift, Mr. Denver (rip)
Name of his child
Thank you.
That was exactly what I needed to read right now. Thanks man.
Being able again to see light and the sunshine is a gift and almost all the time makes me high
No I think it is about Sunshine.
This was one of the songs my daughter asked to hear as she was dying. RIP Alyssa.
May memories of the good times you shared with her help ease your grief because words alone cannot.
I cannot tell you how sorry I am. I cannot imagine. May you find God's comfort and peace and the most healing that can be found while you're on this side. When I heard this this morning I pictured singing this to my mother as she was dying but I didn't get a chance to do that. I only wished I had. I surely would have. I remember singing this to my daughter when she was little and asleep and feeling so much love for her and I will always think of that along with my childhood when I was growing up and how popular this song was. I would be praying for you.
I know my words can't bring back what you lost. I cannot even begin to comprehend the chaos you had to go through. I'm so sorry. I'll be praying for you.
This song was always profound for me, and you and your daughter, God Rest Her Soul, have made it even more so. Your daughter has now reached others. RIP Alyssa.
She will always be with you
This brings back memories from my youth. I remember when this was on the radio back in the 70s. The best decade for great music.
Without a doubt...
Yess!
You said it 😊. Best decade of my life with the music
I am 63 and grew up listening to John Denver, James Taylor, Carol King, etc. These artists represent something sorry missing in today’s music. I will be playing classic music like this for my grandkids, so they know beauty and emotion, not the vulgar sounds of rap. How can that be called music?? Anyhoo, thank you John, for transporting me back to simpler times. Rest in peace ❤️
Me too......I love my LED ZEPPELIN but I love Great Music & J. Denver absolutely gave us a lot of it.....God Bless You for your kind words......

After reading your comment, I went from remembering my old comment and thinking it was funny, to feeling bad, to remembering why I made the comment in the first place.
Whilst I obviously sympathise with people losing loved ones, especially their children, I find these sorts of comments very strange. I guess people need an outlet or somthing, if you want to look at it in a positive way, but I find the emotional dumping to be a little unsettling. Like, why do feel the need to share your most horrific tragedy with the world, on a forum designed for pointless shitposts. It's kinda cringy, like someone having a mental breakdown in public. I also (cynically I know) can't help but feel a little nagging sensation that these comments are some attempt at getting sympathy points from strangers. I can't know why this woman said what she did. And I kinda hope she's not reading this know because again, I sympathise. However, I reserve the right to make quips on anything, if only to poke fun at the strange ways people choose to express themselves. And note, that's all I did. Just poking fun at a strange type of comment you see from time to time, and deflating it a bit.
Sorry for your loss, be strong
I picture a new mom singing this to her little baby boy, beautiful. I can't imagine your pain, I'm so sorry.
I don't know you but we're part of the same human family. I love you and I am sorry for your loss.

My grandmother is living her final days. As we were saying goodbye one night last week, I noticed the day's last sunlight sneaking through the blinds. Remembering that this is one of her favorite songs, I fired up the video and started singing it to her. She immediately remembered the words and sang along. Knowing that her mind and body were at peace for 5 minutes was a beautiful way to conclude our evening. And while I have decades of wonderful memories, I'll always cherish those blissful 5 minutes. [Addition 22-Jan 2019] Thank you for the kind words in the replies. Just to clarify: she did not die while we were listening to the song, but she did pass away about a month later. She was the most loving person I've ever known.
Beautiful words. My best wishes to you and your grandmother.

Still listening in 2021. I'm forty-something-or-other and I'm hoping to pass on some of these gems to my daughters.
This was my grandads favourite song, so we played it at his funeral. He always would be out in the summer painting, making flower beds, just anything out of wood. He loved the sun and the heat. On his last summer, i used to help him stack wood for our wood burner, i knew he wouldn’t be here the next year because of everything his body was failing. He brought out a icecream on an especially hot day and I remember sitting there and eating it. I didnt like the ice cream but i knew it would be a good memory so i ate it and we just sat side by side in the sun. I love him
❤️
Great lyrics. Give a musician.
What a precious memory, he loved you & is watching over you🙏❤️
I love that you ate it anyway, you could be my friend for sure!
I would sing this when I was a little boy playing outside just to escape and get away from the meanness in the house. Still makes me cry too this day 49 years later!

This was my favorite song when I was a little girl (age 6). Fortunately, I have heard it many times since (though still not enough). I was lucky enough to attend one of his last concerts at the Fox Theater in Atlanta in February 1997. I am forever blessed!
Ever since I was a kid, (I'm 61 now), John Denver has run through my veins. We wore what he wore, sang his songs, and it is he that is responsible for my deep love of the high mountains. His music helped shape me into the person I am today. I wish I made the opportunity to tell him to his face... Don Kisling

Me too. I am almost 60 and I have loved him as long as I can remember.
26 year old man here, and I gotta say I like Mr. Denver's music. If more people listened to stuff like this, we might all get along a little better.
My mum sang this to me when she was dying, but still able to sit and have lunch with me..We were in my tiny unit with beautiful views over the water. The sun rays hit the water..she began to sing, beautiful voice..
One of the greatest songs of all time. The music is so beautiful. Heavenly.
Such a pure clean vocal, simple lyrics but hell do they ever evoke the deepest emotions.Such an underrated talent, one of the best xxx
Another talent, gone too soon:(
So agree! I'm 70 now but how I remember how his many many songs spoke to my spirit and soul back when younger and even now touch me deeply.
My nephew, when he was little, used to sing this in his sweet, child voice. Time goes by before we know it. RIP John Denver
I have read a lot of comments on this song, some of which are heartbreaking. Love is the greatest force in humanity. Without it, there is no point to anything. Without love in the world, everything is moot. All the riches of the world are worthless without it. If you have lost your humanity, you have lost everything. Compassion and love for other people is the foundation for our fulfillment in life. This song evokes compassion and the simplicity of life. I also want to say to be kind to strangers. You never know what the impact a few kind words can mean to someone who is troubled. Be a positive force in the world. Kindness is a virtue and it never goes out of style.
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high
If I had a day that I could give you
I'd give to you the day just like today
If I had a song that I could sing for you
I'd sing a song to make you feel this way
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost always makes me high
If I had a tale that I could tell you
I'd tell a tale sure to make you smile
If I had a wish that I could wish for you
I'd make a wish for sunshine for all the while
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy
Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely
Sunshine almost all the time makes me high
Sunshine almost always

John's "death" was a freemason hoax. Many celebrities fake their deaths. The freemasons love to "kill off" their puppets by their song lyrics ... John sang, "I'm Leaving On A Jet Plane" .. so ha ha, they faked his death in a fake plane crash. Faking their death is how celebrities retire .. or for various other reasons, but MANY celebrities fake their death.

I agree! We had some GOOD Music growing up in the 70's including the ones from John Denver. May He Rest in Peace.
Agree.
Mary Bland I am a kid born in 2005 and I still like this music
Listen to John Denver "Sweet Surrender" - it's very special, enjoy!
We had vietnam war, the gas embargo, a president who got impeached but in all that we had God pouring down his Spirit on those who love Him what was formally called the Hippi/Jesus movement. Yes times were good
Thankyou God for your sunshine 🌞 in my heart & life 💖 Thankyou for making my life right for your great Colorado shine & for my Jeffrey and my daughter the sunshine of my life, so rich is this song because of you lord
We’re going to be playing this at my darling husband’s funeral tomorrow (18/04/2023) - he used to sing it to me and to the kids. It will always remind me of him 💔
❤
So sorry for your loss. I pray that he is sitting under Eternal Sunshine now.
So sorry for your loss. Love is eternal.
❤
This song reminds me of growing up in North Carolina during the 1970s ... and riding my bike to Mr Barger's country store while listening to my little red transistor radio that I won at the Rowan County Fair.
This reminds me of my kindergarten/grade 1 teacher from when I lived in North Carolina. She showed me this song when I was in kindergarten. That was 2011. She is now long time retired. I now live so far from home, being in Canada and being misplaced in time. Thank you for bringing me home, though it's temporary, I am grateful
Does John Denver live? Bleeesings ..

He wasn't parasailing when he died, he actually had a homebuilt, Long-EZ plane by Rutan.
Alan Morris thanks for sharing your memory!!! You made me smile!!
We lived on a large stretch of land many years ago. During the summer months, we would bring out those big 70's speakers and set them on the back deck and just blast music. Whenever we put John Denver on, our big Saint Bernard ( no matter where he was) would find his way to that back deck and lie down between those two speakers in total bliss. He would lie there all day if we kept playing John Denver. Music soothes any soul. I miss you my big, beautiful, intelligent, gentle giant. You gave us so much love and joy!!!❤🐶
I truly feel the presence of God and I needed these tears 😢😊 life used to have meaning.... Here as a future architect of the world 2024 🙏🎉
I chose this song to walk down the aisle to at my wedding last week. The song is simply perfect and when I said my vows there was sunshine on my shoulders and on the sea as my venue was Tunnels Beaches, Ilfracombe, North Devon. I was high but I didn't cry. John Denvers music has accompanied me through my life but this was the most precious moment xx
John didn't just sing /write great songs. He helped us to aspire to be a better people.
Something we've lost.
Today is my birthday and this song is making me happy thinking about my late mother. She died many years ago. But always made me feel special. Just like this song.
Happy Birthday
I can't listen to this without crying
It doesn’t matter what answers I get in my life, no matter how tough they look. This song makes me feel better, rise above, and keep on keepin on… love you John Denver…
Amen 🙏💞
Well said friend. 👏
Amen… damn good amen 🙏
Right on
amo também, queria só um amor , ouvindo ela.
These tough days of 2020, who listen to John's fantastic song?
I am!!!
✋🏻
amen to that
Every time I hear this song it brings me back to my youth. I wish there was a way to go back and live it all over again. No internet. 3 channels on TV. Our parents would have had to tie us down with ropes in order to prevent us from going outside to play regardless of the weather. The days of innocence. Great memories. And this song puts me in that happy place when I hear it now.
@@bostonwhofan Me, too!
John Denver !
A breath of clean fresh air .
Been a long time .
Been married for 38 years , I restored my amp n turn table , my wife pulled her old JD albums , listened to them all night .

This is one of our favorite to our Hero! Army Dad! We lost him too soon, miss him dearly, undeniable memories of our Dad , caring, loving, tender heart and always looking out for us and everyone! I miss him dearly and tears come down my cheeks to whisper to him, if I have one more moment together to see him making a s laugh,!-and telling us , to look at how he’s making bullets for his guns, and always telling us about his cowboy adventures!!!! He as my sunshine in my shoulders…. He made me cry… just to tell him how much I love him…. Daddy…. I’ll see you soon in heaven as gods blessings are wrapping his arms around you for when we will be with you again!!! I love you dad!!!! Gods blessings on you and to everyone who loves you daddy!! Your daughter Christina ❤
I sing this to my daughter when she's upset. Works every time. Love John Denver.
Moscow, Idaho ... the '70's ... the most beautiful daughter in the world would sit upon my shoulders and make me so happy. Quarter after quarter played this song time and time again as we ate pancakes together. The greatest time of my life.
My mom used to sing this one to me:) even after she died, I still listen to it all the time, especially before I go to bed.
Great song, really speaks volumes. =)

Danielle Lien My mom did too!
My mum's favourite too. It was played at her funeral yesterday (26th May). Beautiful song. My heart goes out to all who have lost a beautiful person x
Pretty dang sure I'm using this for Mother/Son dance at his upcoming wedding. I've called him Sunny his whole life, and this song from 1974 is special to me.
Saudade Sucesso grande ❤
This is mine and my childhood girlfriend's favorite song from the early 1970's. We are still together in 2022.
One of the beautiful songs ever written or recorded.
My Father, my Sunshine 😢...miss you Dad. If I could give you a day to you I'd have given you a century just to make you happy as always 🙂❤
This song definitely has meant a lot to my wife and I. My wife is a stroke survivor and while she was in the rehabilitation center, I would take her outside whenever possible.
I would play this video for her and she would enjoy the music as the sun was shining on us.
John's music always touched my heart.....He sure loved life and was able to express it beautifully through his songs...one of a kind songwriter and person who touched many lives.....
This song makes me feel the joy of living
I have a beautiful orange tabby cat, who’s named Sunshine. She does make me happy. RIP John Denver. Your songs will live on.
Yes! I'm listening and I love this song! Sometimes seeing nature's beauty make me cry!
What I love about this song is its pure simplicity, its pure wonderment at just experiencing life, its pure joy at understanding how beautiful life can be, if you're brave enough to experience it.
Sunshine forever 🎼🎼
