I have a 2017 Amarok Ultimate and I have done 76,000 Km without a hitch and thats towing a caravan through the blue mountains in NSW my fuel consumption when towing was about 16 > 17.4 Lt /100 Km

Did you try reversing up a incline with the trailer attached?

18.5l fuel consumption is nothing to be concerned about, becouse any other 4 cil will use more fuel than this. Ive got the new navara and the amarok... the amarok uses less fuel when towing heavy 3500kg trailers. Without trailer the navara uses 2l less fuel on 100km.
