  • I have been an long time collector and user of the UK SAS Smock. Best garment ever. Plenty of pockets, and a jacket that the cut really protects you from most of the elements. Not a waterproof garment, but will stop wind and light rain. You can wax them, and some come with waterproof under layers.
    Loads of companies have made and are still making a version of the SAS Smock. Here is the latest from Helikon Tex from Poland.
    I have several on sale from different companies o my website for sell. So please follow the link below to have a look.

    Perfect jacket....light, windproof and practical...and looks good, not too military...shame not do more colours yet. Explains why they stopped making the PSC smock...a knock-off of the British army issue....excellent jacket.
    Price is always astonishing compared to rivals. Fjallraven Skogso jacket is similar but costs way more but was the only option if you wanted a very lightweight windproof but still hardwearing smock.
    Just ordered the Helikon...cheers!

      Just went out for a hike. There’s a fine mist and some wind. With only a tshirt a medium weight merino wool Jac shirt and this smock I was perfect. Didn’t get wet and wasn’t cold. Smock is doing its job. Pockets are perfect.

    Mike,
    Thank you. Im a new subscriber. I am wondering how tall you are. Im built like you and im 5'9. Just wondering what size h-tex sas smock would do me best.
    That being said i have an H-tex pilgram anorak in 3xl. It fits but im hoping the sas smock will fit a little bigger. I have 2 Arktis combat smocks which are good. But i find i like the dura‐canvas more comfortable and seems to cut the wind a little better. Ive just order an H-tex sas smock 3xl. The earth brown. Should reieve it in a week or so.

      Howdy. First. Thanks for your subscription to my channel. I am humbled daily at how great you are to trust in me. Next. I’m 6 foot tall. I am a bit fella . My chest is big. Along with my arms. But sadly my torso is catching up with me. I’ve got several 3XL HY jackets and shirts. They all fit correctly. I can wear a wool sweater or my medium weight Jac shirt under my smock. And there’s room. I think the CXXL size should work well for you. I myself prefer a bit larger in cut. But this is also how we wore out BDU jackets in the Army. Loads of room. Helped in winter with the jack shits and long John tops we would wear. And left plenty of room for the warmer months for circulation. I hope I was able to help you. Send me an email and I can send you more pictures of me wearing the smock

      Mike. You dont see to talk outof your arse. Im glad that Santa 😉is on youtube conduct AARs for kit. (Refering to your amzing beard not you size) i spend 26yrs in the Canadian Army. My 1st deployment was Bosnia in the mid late 90s. My favouite peise of kit is ever was a 80s eara windproof smock i private purchased while on leave in the UK. It was olive drab. I was lucky to be employed as a driver/ communicator for canadian Div liason office and was forward deployed to the british Div HQ in Banja Luka. Worked alot with the Brits. They where great.

    The pockets seem to be smaller than what we are used to from original smocks. can you fit 2 pint cans into them? that's standard. And I really hope it's the ISO settings on your iphone and the bron is a bit darker in reality.If I am completely wrong I shall check this smock out.

      @@couchcamperTMyou’re welcome. IMO, I don’t believe a smock is about having a lot of pockets. I’ve tried and worked with some of the 100 pocket version smocks. Just too much. Hard to wear gear over a smock like that. I like to KISS. Firstly for me the smock is protection. Next function. Can I still operate with it in use. What will I carry? I guess I’ll need to make a video about that. I’m also going to look at making a few mods to my smock. But not noticeable. More hidden. I’d like to see in buttons and use an M65 Liner in it???? We used to do that with out BDU blouses in the Army. Any way. Thanks for your comments. And thanks. I’d be interested in knowing what you carry in your smock.

    • @couchcamperTM
      @couchcamperTM Před 8 měsíci +1

      It's crazy. It's my carry all, really. I even carry water bottles, the small pot of the British mess kit, food and all the usual stuff in it (survival, navigation and stuff) I like to have my jungle bag and poncho in the large back pocket. It'sot my EDC, of course, but what I take out for a weekend. I have a Bundeswehr harness which can be clipped into the smock at waist level, if I think it's to cumbersome I use it. I should have patented it, UF Pro sold such an idea ;-) it helps a lot.
      Do I look like the Michelin man? yes. But this way I only need a backpack for winter, or special occasions. And I only need to go "tactical" when I get lost 😀 @@mikebox
