- "Yankee Doodle" is a traditional song and nursery rhyme, the early versions of which predate the Seven Years' War and American Revolution. It is often sung patriotically in the United States today. It is the state anthem of Connecticut. The melody is thought to be much older than both the lyrics and the subject, going back to folk songs of Medieval Europe.
Father and I went down to camp,
Along with Captain Gooding,
And there we saw the men and boys
As thick as hasty pudding.
Yankee Doodle keep it up,
Yankee Doodle dandy,
Mind the music and the step,
And with the girls be handy.
And there was General Washington,
Upon a slapping stallion,
A' Giving orders to his men,
I guess there was a million.
Yankee Doodle keep it up,
Yankee Doodle dandy,
Mind the music and the step,
And with the girls be handy. - Hry
damn them Brits have been my quiet since this banger came out
The words were a British joke against the colonials
The tune waas an old british army marching tune
A familiar tune that captures the spirit of our early years and reminds us of the resilience and character of our nation. May it continue to inspire unity and pride among Americans.
