  • The jones H bar is designed to help with comfort and hand positions while riding bikes, so it gets used a lot in the world of bikepacking, i get comments about these bars all of the time whether out on the trails on here on youtube. I have been living with them for the last 6 or 7 months so in this video let's find out what i think about them.

I have Jones bars on my Sonder Camino. It was a necessity as I’m old and had developed basal thumb arthritis. I’d not ridden drops for years so it was a shock when I reached for the brake hoods and an extreme pain shot up my arm. As you say, Jones bars shift the contact area on your hands and I was immediately comfortable. Jones Kraton grips don’t soak up water btw.
I’ve bought my first Garmin online today (delivery in two days). I’ve never used such tech before (I am properly old!) so found your video by searching charm in on Jones bars. You’ve answered all of my questions and more so that I can order an appropriate Mount. I have the Jones specific bar bag but I reckon I’ll be able to access it still, below the Garmin bracket. Rebellion Way in about ten days!

I had these bars recommended to me and was told to tilt the bars down, it takes the pressure off that part of your hand, I've adjusted mine a couple of times and have the weight spread evenly over my hand now.

I elected to install a Jones H-bar onto an Airnimal Joey folding bike. This proved the best bar for this bike once loaded with panniers and front bar gear. It also allows a more vertical riding position and better control of the bike which a butterfly trek bar didn’t. It offers a couple of alternative hand positions for riding comfort. 0:21

We have the similar Molokai bars on our Surly ECR expedition bikes. The sweep is far less fatiguing to our triceps than our straight bars on MTB bikes. For us, the horns or upper positions have never worked out as alternate hand positions. The assumed aero advantage of these narrow and forward hand positions is lost to feeling less stable on a heavily loaded bike and being too far from brakes and shifters. But, that extra cross bar is totally worth the weight for two reasons. 1) Mounting lights, nav, computer. 2) Nesting a drybag such as containing sleep system. Don’t need another rack or stabilizing device. Just draw bag up with a pair of straps. No wiggle, no rubbing, no wear.

I have wrapped the bar up with handlebar tape and it allows tons of various hand grips. I rarely hold the bar on the extended sections. My grips are farther out like my drop bar reach now. Great bar. And great channel.. Thanks.

Love the look of these bars..couldn't afford "Jones" prices; but "On One" (Planet X) do the "Geoff" which is a great budget version of these bars and well worth a look! Great post! Keep Smiling!

I have these on Trek 1120. Use to have these bars on a Surley Ogre. Their great for touring and sight seeing. Not so much for single track. I highly recommend them for loooong rides !

Trek 1120 & Jones bars /2.5 rise model, 4 me.
You may also benefit from a ISM 3.0PR saddle.
      It prevents the painful mishaps.

Great video. Regarding grips though I think it's down to personal preference. In the end I've settled on normal sized grips because of where I preferred the position of the controls - works for me and still have lots of options for hand positions on these bars.

Looks like the sweep matches your natural wrist angle. Yes, your weight is more on your bum, so i think you would need a sprung saddle or seat post.
Im experimenting with bars and mounted a trekking bar on a 90s mountain bike i have. They seem pretty good comfort but thinking about trying the moloko bar also, or the Jones bar with the rise because the 90s mountain bike seem to have a low front end..

I mounted it on my Fargo and actually after so many km I lose sensitivity in the little fingers I probably have to adjust the angle of the handlebars with respect to the ground as well as the levers I find it fantastic with the Esi XXL knobs

Great informative video mate. By shear coincidence I’ve just fitted the Jones bar to my hard-tale today. I swapped out the Planet X Jeff bars (pretty much the same bar which I’ve used for two years) for the Jones to save a bit of weight. Totally agree re the pressure points and the seating position etc. As you say there are loads of hand positions and real estate as our American cousins would say. Keep up the great work recording your trips buddy… look forward to more in the future. 👍

Having got used to the Jones, it feels a bit weird going back to straight bars. One thing to note, the foam grips are susceptible to damage. I put a split in one of mine after clipping a post on The Peddars Way.

Ive got mates in the local Fatbike group that swear by these.
Looking for alternative bars to assist me with a back & shoulder injury i tried these. I just couldn't get the hang of these or the Planet X Geoff bar "copy"
Opted in the end for a pair of Surly Sunrise bars. Far more upright position. Think j need a better saddle now though.

Just caught this. Am looking at replacing my drop bars for the H. I have been using a Restrap front bag/roll but the cables on the drops are tucked away. It looks like the cables need to be longer and in front of any bag for the Jones?. How is it working on your bike.

it's just what came on the bike and it just works well, it's not a trail bike so going super short wouldn't make much sense. Also need a bit of space to attach them stem bags

I just got my Bombtrack Beyond+ and bought the Jones H setup to turn it into a budget version of the ADV. Any bags that you recommend that work better than others for fitting in or under the bars?
