  • @SLICENSLASH
    @SLICENSLASH Před 8 lety +49

    I remember watching this. It was a great game. Marbury was a great player. Its ashamed it never worked out for him on the Knicks. I think there are two trains of thought as to why Marbury failed in NY and eventually the NBA.
    1) He was a great scoring PG but wasn't a great leader. He couldn't really run a team, but he could get buckets. Similar example I think is Kyrie Irving. Kyrie's Cavs team likely would've continued to disappoint & miss the playoffs if he wasn't fortunate to have Lebron return. Lebron is that teams true PG and runs the team allowing Kyrie to do what he does best, get buckets.
    2)Front Office & Coaching. Whether it was Larry Brown or Isiah Thomas coaching both continually tried to turn Marbury into the protypical PG that passed first & shot second. The kind of PG leader that Jason Kidd was in NJ at the time, but that wasnt who Marbury was. At some point they should've concluded he's a scorer, let him be; and go seek out another perimeter player who could run the show for them from another position instead continually stockpiling more scoring talent in the backcourt & team in general to join Marbury.
    Isiah Thomas was & is a great talent evaluator, but he failed in recognizing how to construct a team. A unit that talents blend well collectively. He added Steve Francis & Jamal Crawford all of which were scoring PGs that also struggled in running a team. It just added to the problem.
    In the end Marbury should've never left Kevin Garnett in Minnesota. If he didnt he'd have rings right now. Kinda like how Tony Parker got rings for playing with Tim Duncan.

    I'm a Knicks fan and I think I might have to say that is the worst front court in the history of the nba. Curry, Jeffries, and Frye.

    • @Zeke62387
      @Zeke62387 Před 9 lety +25

      Not so at that time. There starting frontcourt happened to be Quentin Richardson, Channing Frye and Eddy Curry for most of the season. For this game, Quentin Richardson was hurt and yes they did start Jared Jefferies, but Jared Jefferries then was a better player than he was at the end of his career with the Knicks. In the previous year before signing with the Knicks,Jared Jefferies caused havoc in the playoffs against the Cavs and was sought after by many teams in free agency. Now I dont agree with the huge contract Isiah gave him to come to Ny, but he would have been a great asset to many other teams if he went anywhere else. Jared was never a good offensive player, but look at the defensive numbers when he was in the game. Now Channing Frye in the previous year from this video, was 3rd in rookie of the year voting and was a really good aggressive player. Today he is just a 3 point shooter but back then, he was a rising star. Now Eddy Curry, his first year with the Knicks was terrible in part of the fact of what went on with Marbury and Larry Brown. But this was statistically his best year in the Nba. He averaged 19 and 7.5 rebs a game and should have made the Allstar game that year. He was without a doubt our most important player this year. Its easy to loom back almost 9 years later and say that this was one ofvl the worst front courts in history, but ask any gm or scout in 2006 2007, they would tell you thats not true.

    I wouldn't say stacked. None of them were all-stars in 2004. Both Wallaces only made the all-star team twice by 2004 (3 times by 2005 on their 2nd trip to the finals). As a matter of fact, Billups and Hamilton didn't make the team until 2006. They just had a well balanced team. All around starting 5 and a solid-great bench with Williamson, Okur, Atkins, Ham, Hunter, Campbell, and James. Well balanced attack everywhere and were very well coached. As a Laker fan, I tipped my hat to them in 2004.
