This tribute was put together by my good friend, Chris Themelco (Vocals / Rhythm Guitar / Drums), owner of "Monolith Studios" and front-man of the excellent Aussie Melodeath band, Orpheus Omega! Alexi would be proud 🥲. And let’s not forget he was only about 20 years old when he wrote that song ....and all of ‘Follow the Reaper’ album.
Kissing the shadows was also an afterthought not originally Intended for that record. If I remember correctly Alexi said they finished recording all the tracks for follow the reaper early. They decided to write & record one more track to toss on the record just to make use of the studio time and not waste it. I was 14 in 2000 and discovered COB with follow the reaper. Im 34 now and have been playing guitar for 21 years. It still blows my mind that, one of the absolute greatest pieces of guitar playing ever recorded was created and recorded essentially on the spot just because... "we have studio time to kill so let's just see what happens" Words don't exist that can describe how legendary, influential, and important Alexi and his contributions to metal and guitar playing truly are
@@k7j007 true that. I saw them live 11 times from 2003 to 2014, and the excitement NEVER faded. Still hasn’t, and I’m 36y/o. The band itself is legendary, with Alexi at the forefront.
@@benthomas8765 Thats awesome man I bet those are some kickass memories of good times. Unfortunately I never got to see them live and they were always the #1 band on my "Must see" list. For whatever reason they never played a gig close enough for me to make it. Its a bummer knowing Ill never see those dudes live but Ive got nothing to be upset about. They left a killer catalog of records, one of the sickest live DVD's of all time and tons of other cool stuff that we will always have. HUGE thanks to COB for killing it for well over the last 20 years and leaving behind a legendary legacy for the fans

But it has been awesome to see how many people found the band when they were 13-14 years old and roughly between 99'-01' and til this day still love the band and Alexi. Rock on Brother

Really well done, guys. To those that didn’t know, I heard that this was a “filler” track written last minute in the studio and whacked on the end of the album. When the best (or one of the best) song on the album was written last minute you know it was the product of raw talent and creativity.
this is a nice fun fact, Kissing the Shadows belongs to my Top 5 CoB Songs, never imagined, that it could be a filler track :)

Just fucking amazing. I still can't believe our man is out. I'll never forget the face-melt hearing this for the first time. This song, WinAmp, me bashing my head against my Jackson Kelly and metronome sums up that year. Also was the title of my hotmail address... classic. Some people dream in music, some people can play music, others do it relentlessly regardless, but Alexi uniquely managed to do all three. Work and party ethic of a maniac and talent of a god at an impossibly young age. RIP!

Great cover! The solos were insanely good. The first note of the double-picked verse lead starting at 00:37 should always move from D# to D for the second bar, though. Minor issue, but unfortunately a recurring one.

It is :) He's such a nice and humble guy. I was practicing with my band a few years ago at Monolith. After a set in Melbourne he came and spoke to me with a few others....I had no idea who he was but he said he had seen me in the common space at the studio. This video is fantastic!
