      Not really considering how massive and rabidly loyal disney fans are. I always like to compare disney's fanbase to taylor swift's. They are multigenerational and worldwide. They are also better at catering to family experiences. If anything, epic will end up helping disney since it will be drawing even more people to orlando.

    This is a down grade as it's replacing as well loved attraction of multiple generations. Splash Mountain leaned to the drop as being thrown in the Briar Patch as an significant event/ action. This was previous referred to as one mountain amongst the Disney Mountain range. I am not convinced at a Tiana's attraction works well with a log flume system. An omni mover or trackless system may have been a better way to a tell the story. The structure is a still a mountain and yet Disney is telling us it is a bayou.

    I had really high expectations about this ride, but after seeing the POV the disappointment was real. I see a Tiana's Bayou ride, but without any adventure to be found. It's a mere relaxing ride without a clear narrative, which doesn't quite fit in what is supposed to be a *_thrilling_* dark ride. For it to be an adventure, we would need a narrative and possibly an antagonist. Imo the most logical part in the ride regarding the narrative was that shroom trip near the end, which by itself should say enough about my opinion on the ride's storyline as a whole

  • @AlexMartinez-gv7hy

    No cap. This would have worked better as a small world type ride. A slow, relaxing ride thru the bayou as Tiana and Louis help your crew thru the bayou gathering ingredients and folks to play in the final scene. Every log fume ride I've ridden on builds up to some sort of tension for the final drop. Look at Jurassic Park, the ride, or the log ride in knotts.

    • @Guide2WDW
      @Guide2WDW  Před 2 měsíci +3

      I agree that it has more happening because of the cat and mouse dynamic between Brer Fox/Bear trying to capture Brer Rabbit. I was trying to say that the premise is simple, but Splash gets more out of the premise because of the setups and payoffs. Tiana doesn’t do enough with the premise of finding musicians because the scenes in the first section are too repetitive. I also find it the biggest downgrade.

    One major thing you missed when it comes to animatronics
    If you would have taken the critter animatronics into account it would be a downgrade, the critters from Tiana are very simple even much more simple than any splash animatromic that there has been.
    Atleast every splash animatronic can blink, speak, and move its head, torso, and arms. These critters from Tiana have very limited movement if you pay attention to them and can only rock foward/back or side to side, they arent complex at all and they dont even move their mouths or blink.
    The budget definetely went on the final scene and all the Tiana, Louis, and mama Odie animatronics because the rest can barely be considered animatronics and more like figures.

  • @MP-cr7uf
    @MP-cr7uf Před 2 měsíci +5

    They should have modeled it like the “Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid” and kept the original songs, lots of colorful characters, Tiana in her Princess dress at the party, and definitely included both Ray and Dr Facilier (the final drop could be trying to escape The Shadow Man attempting to take you to the other side) and NOT make the attraction a sequel. Princess Tiana fans are not going to be happy with this downgrade.

    • @Guide2WDW
      @Guide2WDW  Před 2 měsíci

      It seems like in the last decade or so Imagineering has decided that American audiences don’t like “book report rides” that retell the story of the movie. The Frozen and Tangled rides that just opened in Tokyo are just that, and they look incredible.
      I like the idea of making the ride its own thing, conceptually. It’s cool that a theme park ride could further the story. But we don’t see a story where much happens to the characters from Princess and the Frog, so I can see why fans of the movie would be disappointed by it.

Princess Tiana deserved a really new ride and not just a sort of makeover. Well, just my opinion. I have 50 years visiting WDW once a year and I think there are some attractions that You can set as “classics”. Pirates, Mansion, Big Thunder, etc… Splash Mountain, for me, had that status. One could argue a downgrade where I might agree, however I doubt it’s as major as people say. Admittedly the animatronics are a step hugely in the right direction same with set design. However it does lack a story, going back to the roots of imagineering, Tony Baxter spoke of this so called story that is the most important part of a ride, without a good story it doesn’t feel real…

The more I think about it, the more I'm disappointed with the story above everything else, because I think Tiana deserves more as a character. This is a huge downgrade especially when compared to what came before it. At least Tokyo’s version didn’t suffer the same fate. And if it did (which is highly unlikely), I believe that the OLC would do a far more superior job in executing the ride than Disney did.
    Edit: This also shows how Disney is falling short in their quality and in expectation while their main competitor is building something EPIC down the street

Anyways, I don’t think this will be loved when the kids get older. It kind of feels like something like a one and done ride. If it was going to be a success, then it should be a ride that you can ride multiple times a day. I’m kind of missing the adventure part of the ride because adventure means an unusual and exciting, typically hazardous, experience or activity, this doesn’t actually cut it as an adventure.

    Only 14 of the figures in TBA are true "audio animatronics" with a similar or greater range of movement as most of the characters in Splash. Tiana, Naveen, Louis, Mama Odie, Charlotte and Eudora. These are indeed high quality figures. The remaining new figures however, the new critters, are actually far less complex than most of the characters in Splash. These are not genuine audio animatronics, but rather simple moving props with very repetitive canned back and forth motion. None have more than two or three basic axes of motion at most on their entire body. Several of them including the turtle, large bobcat, two large bears and one of the large frogs only have a single axis and just twist side to side or wobble back and forth. None of the critter figures have any motion above the neck either. The range of motion along with the repetitive pendulum-like way that these figures move is comparable to the sort of moving props you'd see in an old Fantasyland C ticket dark ride, like the dwarf band in the cottage scene of Snow White's Scary Adventures. Or the spinning/bobbing fish props in Little Mermaid. The figures from Tiana have nice designs and their outer shells are of higher quality than those examples, but their motion is extremely disappointing compared to their predecessors.
    Splash's WDW's had about 55 well articulated legitimate AA's, and Disneyland's had about 75 (extra hand-me-downs from America Sings). Not taken from Disney's inflated number either (which dishonestly counts those aforementioned simple moving props among the AA's to try and inflate the number). I am only counting things that have a relatively decent range of complex and non-repetitive motion. Even many of the simpler Splash animatronics such as Mr Bluebird and the squat bullfrogs would blink and move their mouths. Not to mention this animation (along with their other main body joints) was dynamic and programmed to move in sync with vocals from the ride audio and never felt repetitive.

    The animatronics, new orleans themed setting and music are nice. But it lacks any real story. The original splash mountain, while simple, did have a bit of tension, especially going up the lift before the big drop. But you make a good point using the comparison to haunted mansion which had no story. It's just hard since it's easy to compare it to the original which had a story. Something does feel a bit lacking, but we'll just have to see for ourselves when we ride it in person, which is a different experience than watching a pov. I wonder if there would be room for improvement to add more scenes/animatronics to the first half.

There are a few nice animatronics and songs but it just doesn’t resonate with guests as it could have. Those in charge are getting too far removed from the creatives that made Disney great. once you lose the creative leadership structure, and hand leadership over to an individual who is not ready to lead this is what you get. At least they had to keep the old ride system or I fear this team would have torn down the mountain and made it a trackless ride with screens.

    I think my biggest issue with it is that Disney couldn't make up its mind. If it's going to be a sequel to a popular movie, then give people something to be interested in, immersed in the world. If you're going to use the excuse that a ride is too racist, then keep the elements of the culture you replaced it with. Banning the use of voodoo in a plot setting that relies HEAVILY on voodoo will not lead to a satisfactory result. If you're going to rely on more high powered animatronics to tell your story, make sure those animatronics work properly and consistently. Decisions have consequences, and successful people and businesses have plans to handle those consequences. There doesn't seem to be a plan here, and Disney is paying for it.

    The ride story seems to have ADD.
    First it seems like you are helping Tiana to get a secret spice for the party or cooking a special meal.
    Then it shifts to you looking for a Band for the party. Which you find immediately after the first big drop.
    Then you get shrunk down to the size of a frog by Mama Odie. Why?! For what Purpose?!
    Just before the Big Drop Mama Odie blows you back up cause "To make a big splash at the party, you gotta be bigger." Then WHY Shrink us in the first place if you are gonna blow us back up again?!?!
    Then at the end you are at the party and then Tiana says "It looks like the only spice we needed was you!" Wait, i thought we were getting a band?! Now we are the Spice?!
    It left me more confused than anything and just makes me sad that Splash Mountain is gone.

    Here are some of the issues I have with Tiana's Bayou Adventure. 1. The storyline is weak and lacks any sense of. tension or buildup to the finale. Why is Tiana at her food factory and realizes she needs a band for her party and the missing element? 2. The band is immediately found once we enter The Bayou dark ride element. Once again no suspense of why the journey keeps continuing. 3. Momma Odie shrinking us down to find more musicians is odd since we already have come across a plethora of instrument playing animals before this section. 4. Momma Odie as a 2D Screen element for the first 2 times we see her before her animatronic appears at the top of the lift hill is odd. She also appears to play more importance that Princess Tiana. 5. Princess Tiana's outfits and hairstyles have given her an entirely different look than hw she has appeared in Princess and The Frog. I know they have aged her but I do not remember any other Disney Princess to change as much as she has. 6. Why is Prince Naveen relegated to a background band member rather than helping Louis and Princess Tiana searching together for their event? 7. Shouldn't the finale scene be set at Tiana's Palace rather than her home. There is literally no food except beignets with Madame Odie and JuJu. 8. Many of the youtube ridethru videos already show that the animatronics are high maintenance. The first Louis is already not functioning properly. His mouth has stopped working. 9. The logs are not paced out well and the animatronics and screens repeat the same sequence or skip an entire vehicle. 10. While each music/song is nice to hear it just doesn't flow seamlessly from one to the next. I know its a lot of issues I bring up but replacing a classic such as Splash Mountain required something that was going to top the original. This new overlay also destroys Frontierland. New Orleans in a western village just doesn't work nor does a mountain in the bayou.

      I think these are all very valid points. I especially agree with the first scene - it’s the same vignette over and over. No setup and payoff. I definitely agree with your overall point. This is a downgrade. It didn't even take full advantage of the IP. I would have kept the name splash mountain. Dr. Facilier's shadow should be running around the sets causing mischief. The climb up to the top of the hill should have featured the voodoo magic imagery, a friends of the otherside reprise, and have cards pop up foreshadowing the riders' drop. They should have repurpose some of the old animatronics too to fill in the voids. I would have tossed in a very small zipa dee doh dah cameo somewhere even if it is just a quick chime or something. This isn't good enough.

They should have left Splash intact, maybe updated/enhanced it some like they have other classic Disney dark rides(alice, peter pan). I don't even understand the backlash against Splash. None of the silly cartoon characters in Splash said or did anything remotely racist. 95% of people who rode Splash had never even seen Song of the South. Once you said the music is equal, I knew this was unreliable. Splash had an original score designed to take us from one act of the story to another. We first hear an instrumental version of "How Do You Do?" This gives us a nice vibe as we settle into the ride It is a prologue. The music then becomes bigger and the turns into a musical number once we splash into Act One. We hear this song change and flow as Act One of the story evolves. Variety specific to the story and visuals. We then descend into The Laughing Place and are greeted with, once again, an original composition of "Everybody Needs a Laughin' Place" with bees buzzing out the tune instrumentally. After another small dip, the music grows into our second musical number with a chorus of characters singing. The song then changes to be slightly darker which then becomes our end of Act 2 downbeat, "The Burrow's Lament." This theme is drawn from Laughin Place and then transforms into the full-on choral scariness of the lift hill leading us to our climax. Once we drop and the screams fade away, we are greeted with a long stretch of outdoor vibey atmosphere underscored by an instrumental version of "Zip..." This bookends the attraction with similar vibes and feelings. To our surprise, the music grows into an encore with all of the characters we met singing a full of musical version of the song we have been vibing to. This song then also evolves into an alternate more personal version as Brer Rabbit recounts what he learned, making that finale seem epic since that song has grown and evolved for over a minute.
    Compare that to piping in music from the animated film. We hear Tiana singing immediately after she was speaking. Is she randomly breaking into song despite the song not tying into anything going on and dissociated with the figure we just saw. We splash into a scene and a completely different song plays, guess "Almost There" was just filler. As was the opening number played before that. Going Down The Bayou features Ray singing, even though he's dead and not featured. The song doesn't change or evolve other than the different sounds near the pockets of different players. When we shrink, we get a reworked track for Dig a Little Deeper which is great. But then we transition to the film soundtrack again on the Lift Hill and can hear Mama Odie singing, despite the fact we just saw her speak and will see her speak again in seconds. She's clearly not singing, but we hear her singing. Then after the splash we are listening to the movie track of Almost There again. But when entering the finale, the song changes to a new original song that only exists in that one big room, so it makes the song feel so short and anticlimactic. Instead of being over a minute of build up and a small wind down with Brer Rabbits final scene singing, it is just 20 seconds of a song which is over as quickly as it began.
    The music was a huge downgrade. And don't try and compare the first bayou sequence in TBA to DL's opening of Pirates. That's what adds insult to injury, knowing that Disney created a much better "float through the bayou" experience half a century ago and the new team can't even match that.

      I was more trying to say I didn’t have a strong opinion regarding the music. My focus is typically story. But you do have a strong opinion and make some really great points. I was more considering the songs in a vacuum, thinking on them in a “Would I want to listen to them after the ride” way. But you brought up some really good points about how the music was used on the ride, and I really don’t disagree with what you said.
      Also, the Pirates comparison wasn’t to say that the first Tiana scene is equal to that, just that it reminded me of it and how a slow start to a ride can be successful. But the Pirates scene is much more tonally coherent and works better.
      Sorry you found me unreliable, but I’m glad you wrote in! Gave me a lot to chew on in a good way - my favorite type of feedback.

    I work in marketing and my big question is who were they trying to market this to? It’s not for little kids at all because you have to be a certain height to ride and there is a 50ft drop. It’s not for teens or adults because there’s no suspense leading up to the 50ft drop. Who is this for? Another issue I have is the fact that the animatronics have to explain the storyline to you. If you have to explain a story you’re not telling it well enough through the visuals

    Tiana's Bayou Adventure is a downgrade. There's no pink flamingos around Mama Odie, they're missing the iconic villain Shadow Man Dr. Facilier as an evil spirit and the other evil spirit minions. Also they're missing the scary song "Friends on the Other Side" chanting "Are you ready?" when you go up the top of the mountain. There needs to be more critter animals like skunks or rodents, they need to bring back the steamboat upgrade before Disneyland will get me interested in riding Tiana's Bayou Adventure. I won't go on Tiana's Bayou Adventure until Dr. Facilier is in the ride and the song "Friends on the other side" is played. I'd rather ride the worst Disneyland ride Autopia than go on the incomplete underwhelming Tiana's Bayou Adventure ride.

    Also theirs the reason for the old animatronics being well old. It would take a whole lot of money to rebuild or replace parts that don't work anymore, meaning a long refurbishment period. Instead of doing that, just replace the ride, make a few new bots, and cut corners to keep it in budget.

    Why not use a chronometer ( very accurate watch) that is synchronized to the world clock, to know exactly when to start tapping the refresh button?

    Certainly not an upgrade. Maybe a downgrade based on value for money spent. Imo they wasted money changing one of the most popular rides in the world and will pass on that cost to their customers. Plus it sounds like they didn't fix the only thing that sounded like the biggest problem to me - splash breaking down too much. From reports it breaks down even more now. That seems to be the new standard for Disney.

    I feel like they should have just shut down the ride for a while to replace the animatronics with a1000 versions still the same characters just with the latest Disney technology
