  • Many people in the West tend to believe that Chinese people don't have religious freedom and there is religious persecution in China. Well, is that true?
I visited four different religious places including a mosque, a church, a Taoist temple and a Buddhist temple in the city of Hangzhou. In addition, I interviewed numerous believers of different religions. Let's see what's the real situation there.

The Constitution of China guarantees freedom of religion for citizens, as it does the freedom of speech. In practice, however, there are strict regulations on religious practice and speech. Five state religions are officially recognized: Buddhism, Catholicism, Daoism, Islam, and Protestantism; faiths outside of these are illegal. .
Foreigners are forbidden from preaching or proselytizing to Chinese citizens, as are all foreigners. Foreigners caught proselytizing have been arrested and expelled from the country.
A number of religious texts, publications, and materials are banned or have their distributions artificially limited in the PRC, and information concerning the treatment of some religious groups is also tightly controlled.
Under Chinese law, a minor is forbidden to receive a religious education of any kind.

The Falun Gong is subject to suppression in China, and virtually all religious texts, publications, and websites relating to the group have been banned, along with information on the imprisonment or torture of followers.
The Chinese government has fined churches for possession of unauthorized editions of the Bible. Other Christian literature is also restricted; in January 2016, five people were arrested for simply "buying and selling officially forbidden Christian devotionals". They were sentenced to 3-7 years in jail.

There has never been a religious war in China’s thousand years of history because China has always been keeping religions in the realm of religions only. Once religions attempt to extend their arms into politics, they will be suppressed. It is very different from western history in which religious powers were above all. In China, religious practices need to follow 5 principles, such as not receiving foreign gov money etc. So if a religious leader meets with western politicians and certain orgs, it would be an alert to the Chinese gov. If you are simply doing religious practices, you would not have a problem in China. Those principles are misinterpreted by the west to create a no freedom story.

Mm but preaching is a fundamental aspect of some religions (islam in particular)
So what can you say about that?

@@testacals that's because their religion doesn't require that of them.
Missionary religions are the kind where it's mandated for the followers to preach onto other people and spread their doctrine.

Each society has and historically had its way of dealing with the secularization of the State. On religious freedom, we can make several criticisms of various nations. In France, for example, the rules are so strict that you cannot wear religious items in public places. In the case of China, it seems to me, the cultural revolution was very violent and repressive, while it was a response to the vestiges of a millenary theocratic state in society. But today, decades later, the story is different. Not everything is bread, bread, cheese, cheese. We don't live in a fairy tale or comic books

As long as religion doesn't try to interfere in government, it won't be a problem.
Because, history has shown how religion destroys a government by intervening excessively.
As happened in the country where I live, Indonesia. Religion interferes too much in political affairs, as a result we only have religious idiots who are incompetent in managing the capital city (Jakarta).

America is run by Christian Evangelist extremists who want to bring about the end of the world so their Messiah a 2000 year old dead hippie, will come back and take them all to heaven. Fat Mike Pompeo and Mike Pence are examples of Evangelists with power!
The whole anti China campaign is because China is basically an athiest country and is a threat to the credibility of their very stupid religion.

Its kind of impossible for religion not to interfere in government as religion defines how you live your life and government also seeks to do the same.
