Thank you Sigmar! Yes the best results are when you attack the surface from both angles.

I've only just got this machine. Seems to do a good job on the first attempt. I found that putting the swing arm into the second hold gave me a little more vigorous cleaning but the machine wanted to strongly turn and I was fighting to keep it centre. I understand I should only use the 2nd and 3rd hole positions was the wire brush has wore down a lot? Is this correct?

Hi, thanks for your comment. The hole positions are not speed or power, they are a method of tensioning the belt. As you use the machine and the belts stretch you will need the holes further away from neutral. Move the lever into the hole that offers some resistance, without forcing it. If the belt starts to skip (i.e. the brush stops spinning intermittently) you need to use the next hole.
You might be using different holes on each side, this is because there are 2 separate belts enabling clockwise and anticlockwise, and they will wear at different rates depending upon usage.
The wear of the brush is determined by how high you set the jockey wheel... that is the black screw in front of the engine. Turning it one way and the other raises and lowers the brush. The lower the brush is, the more aggressive the clean will be, and the faster you will wear the brush down. It will also be harder to use the lower the brush is. Experiment with the height so that the brush is set just low enough to do the job you want it to, but not so low that it will wear the brush unnecessarily. You should clean 5000 metres squ with one wire brush. Call us on 01142699119 if you want to talk through it.
