I feel like this video could be a definition of pop art in the early 2000s. I love this so much, it's a treasure.
In the late / early 2000’s there was a wave of minimalistic futuristic set design in video clips. Think Destiny’s Child Say My Name, TLC No Scrub and Toni Braxton He Wasn’t Man Enough. By far this Janet Video clip is the greatest example of this design genre. The approach is similar to the city of San Fransokyo from Big Hero 6. Textured and fast paced. Love it!

This one was always one of my favorites. I was pretty young when this came out and still remember all the words. Lol we all had such high hopes for the future, Janet always made it look so otherworldly!

The style is called “ultra modern” it was a a very optimistic, anything is possible and the excitement of a new millennium and how fast technology had evolved . It’s very different than the future we got.

Always loved the music video/soundtrack version to this addictive hit. Janet just unveiled the other week she was heavily fascinated by both futuristic ideas & Asian culture; safe to say, this & "Scream" have been the key embodiment of such. I'll always love & admire Miss Janet Damita Jo's unique mindset for that. True rarity.
I always think of "Scream" when I see this video. They really are similar in that futuristic feel. I'm so glad we live in a time that we get to experience the genius and artistry that Janet and Michael have brought to us lovers of music! I can't help but be moved in some way when I hear them. I wasn't having a great morning, but just hearing this (and seeing that beautiful smile) has already helped my attitude! 🤗

Still to this day, this was my favorite episode of MTV’s Making The Video, teaching me the lesson of humility: It Doesn’t matter that I’m ugly, just know the hot girl loves me.
