  • December bites are generally slow, but I wanted to take a trip down to the 9th street public pier and see what was biting. We ended the short trip with 3 dogfish sharks, the largest was 29"+. No tautog or any other fish were caught, but I definitely want to try again before the winter season comes.

Hey Jay great to see you back on the water fishing I enjoy your Ocean City videos with your wife a lot but my true love is the fishing videos Man you always do well with the Dogfish and the sharks there on that Pier. I've never been able to catch a shark yet, but I'd love to try that little spot there on 9th Street in the future and with the tips that you've given on your videos I should be able to be successful like you said you got to try to hit that channel w the cast so throw it out as far as you can I believe you said in another video, Frozen squid seems to be the ticket.
Fellow subscriber here always enjoy your videos Jay.

Thanks Ken! Frozen squid seems to be the best bait for me. Just cast it as far as you can. Good luck!

I been fishing in that same area for years never caught a shark from my beach house and its right next to you on 7th and 8th street all we catch is string rays

The sharks come in when the water Temps drop. I'll occasionally catch a different breed of shark there in the spring or summer, usually low tide is your best bet.

Hey Jay! Great dogfish video as always. I came down to OC yesterday, tried the 9th street pier for about an hour and a half, no luck. Went across to Stinky Beach, nothing their either lol. After that, decided to go to the coast guard area, wasn't there for long because I got snagged a bit and didn't want to lose any more tackle lol. I feel like it could've been the coldfront that came in but not sure. Anyway, was still fun though! Just wondering what time/month you think would be best for me to come back and try again. I live about an hour and a half away so its not too far. Thanks!

I think you are right- that cold front threw everything out of whack. Honestly, I've caught them from end of November all the way into January. Just watch the water temps, if they dip below 45 everything is pretty much gone except schoolie stripers around the bridges. Sometimes I've also found that casting to different spots makes a difference. I'll cast straight out and then go 20 to 30 feet to either side and keep working the water column to see if they are schooled up in an area. Good luck, hopefully you'll catch something!

Thanks for the tips! I’ll wait till it gets a tiny bit warmer again before coming back down. Hopefully I’ll get something then!

Jay last question about this video and I appreciate you answering all your fans questions, love your videos, I just wanted to know I will be using a 10 ft surf rod with a 4 oz sinker to throw off that Pier, is it difficult to hit that channel you said where the dogfish are so I'll have better chances of catching something there. The reason I asked it's hard to judge the distance from the video of how far out you have to cast but you always do very well there last question promise LOL.
Keep up the good work Jay I'm glad to see your channel is growing I'm sure you're going to double your subscribers soon.

Hey Ken! A 10' rod and 4oz weight will work fine. Just cast it as far as you can and you'll hit the channel without any problems. Here's a tip for the pier: try one spot, if it doesn't produce, cast off the left corner (the corner opposite where the houses are). Usually if they don't bite in one spot, cast it in a different area. Good luck!

I don't fish at night much, it's rare that I do. I don't know of any blues there but the rock are there.
