  • Today we go to a German mock airfield. It had only one purpose. And that was, pretending to be the operational airport in Gilze (then fliegerhorst Gilze-Rijen).
The Germans who were stationed here. According to surviving civilians from the war, they were very fond of the civilians who lived in the area. And this shows again that most German soldiers had to do their duty no matter what.
If you're in the area I would definitely check it out.
I hope you find it an interesting story. I also hope that you will travel more often with "Traveling To History"

Thank you for sharing. I love watching these flogs. My grandfather fought for the British but only said good things about the German soldiers and civilians. RIP to all sides. Lions lead by donkeys

Greetings from the USA. I have viewed about 5 of your vids, and I just subscribed. I thank you for making theses. You’re thought’s and research, is much appreciated. My wife and I traveled through Western Europe in 2004, in a WWII tour, but never encountered these places.

Fun fact, to live up to the british sense of humour, when the brits knew they was fake the RAF dropped dummy wooden bombs on them to let them know they had been rumbled...

So you are telling us British humor is about taking the risk of being shot by one of the 48 flak guns within 5km range of this fake airfield…. Just to throw some wooden bombs? Strange sense of humor you guys have🤦‍♂️
