I love videos like this :)
Another thing I used to do when i went crabbing was using scraps you can buy at the super market or bait stores, they basically use it for chum. you add it to the trap in a small either plastic or metal grate and its just meant to attract the crabs. After doing some calculations on it, it had a significant affect that attracted about 15-25% more crabs per pot. I should say it attracted more keepers. I used a netting that kept all the pieces together with either, with either chicken, or cut bait thrown into the trap.
I've always heard people using wet cat food for this trick but its something to give it a try. I've had a lot of luck with the supermarket scraps, and fish either spines or w.e they give me. most managers know about it, at least to my knowledge. ^^

    Oh man. That’s nice crabbing.
I’m in South Florida, mainly doing blue crabs. And you’re right. The mesh on your pots is too big for us. We need 1 1/2”, the minimum required by law for POTS, even if hung from piers. And we need 3 escape kulls/rings for smaller ones to escape, plus a degradable panel in case the pot is lost.
Laws are nuts, but no minimum size. You just can’t take females with eggs.

Caught them all the time, and also worked in a crab room in a fish cannery (Petersburg Fisheries - Icicle Seafoods). They aren't that hard to handle. And the gloves are to prevent cuts/scrapes from their sharp spines. I find grabbing them by the claws to be the easiest, most comfortable for me.

Hinestly for the price of chicken legs I didnt think it would be worth it over just using the left overs of catch but with the view from under water and how they just stack it really surprises me and sorta seems more worth it.
