How do you think “Mank” measured up to “Citizen Kane?” Let us know!
Liked Citizen Kane more
Seriously? It was great, but nothing can touch Kane!
You obviously plagiarized the material from Matthew Dessem's Nov. 18, 2020 article. You gave the writer no reference.
Citizen Kane is one of the greatest movies ever written, Mank is good, but it's truly just a companion piece.
@@a.jlondon9039 Good eye !
His voice in this film is perfection.
That’s a bit hyperbolic. It comes and goes
Academic Robert Carringer went over all 7 drafts in the 1980's and proved Welles's contribution to the screenplay. Mankiewicz only wrote the first 2 drafts in Victorville while being chaperoned by John Houseman. That leaves the remaining 5 that Welles worked on alone.
Yes! Finally a David Fincher film!
I was wondering when he would make his next movie after Gone Girl from 2014. Welcome back Mr. Fincher! 😁
My desire to watch this Fincher film made me subscribe to Netflix
I heard that Mankiewicz's original script for "Kane" was going to be even more critical of Hearst because he was mad at Hearst for banning him from his parties. Welles originally wanted to base Charles Foster Kane on Howard Hughes but relented because he didn't think audiences would buy into Hughes eccentricities. Also Susan Alexander wasn't based on Marion Davies but on real-life failed opera singer Ganna Walska.
This is true.
If Mankiewicz had written Citizen Kane, he would have written Citizen Kane.
We wouldn’t have a debate.
We only know of the number of drafts and Mank’s invaluable contributions because Welles accepted to share credit with his co-writer despite a contract that allowed him to take full credit. The funny thing is that when Fincher decided to tell this story to restore the truth, he wrote a fiction where most of the facts are not true. Welles continued to work in the exact same collaborative manner and wrote “The magnificent Ambersons” with the help of Joseph Cotten and Jack Moss. As for Mank, he never wrote any original script after Kane. So, yes Mank did co-write Citizen Kane but he didn’t direct it and didn’t star in it. Welles did.
Welles later admitted that the character of Susan Foster Kane was not a fair depiction of Marion Davies.
Loved the Gary Oldman's performance
Best Director 2021 = DAVID FINCHER👍👍👍
All I want now is a sequel to WORLD WAR Z directed by DAVID FINCHER
Looks like you’ll never get what you want
Or even a remake that is more accurate to its book
Citizen Kane, The Wizard of Oz, Man of the World, Dinner at Eight, Pride of the Yankees, and The Pride of St. Louis. What a great screenwriter.
Most assuredly.
I was really disappointed by this film of Fincher for all kind of reasons that would be too long to explain here. One thing mention in the film is that «rosebud» was a reference to Marion
Davis private parts. And it could have been heard by Mank in one of the parties at the Hearst mansion. But overall, I never really understood why the authorship of the script caused so
much ink to flow. I mean you could almost do a film on every film made because everyone of them has «behind the camera« stories... And I am always wary of stories about people who
are alive or who have lived. You know, for sure, that screenwriters are going to twist the reality or events, only to make a good scene!
I was going to refute your point by mentioning what Gore Vidal (among others) had said/speculated but, having read your comment twice I’m worried.
Davies was a Brooklyn sex-dummy who opened her legs because she thought “opening her mind” would crack her fragile scrambled-egg head. According to modern physics she was correct. Be careful, God bless and think less (the latter shouldn’t be a problem).

This was so much better than rko 281.
Love you videos keep up the good work
In my mind Welles was a genius. No cypher
Can you do comic book origin of DC Prometheus?
Mank’s grandson, Ben, inherited a.... love... of gambling. Benny Mankz 🖤 ❤️🤍
This list makes me want to see a list for the top 10 film screenwriters and the list should kick off with Mank

I love this film
You guys have to make this type of video for when the new monster hunter film comes.
I mean that’s based on a video game. It wouldn’t be fact vs fiction, more like whether or not it’s accurate to the games.
Interesting!
@@ManFrancisco because it claims to be the most accurate movie adaptation ever made so I wanna know if its
In 1931, while waiting in New York for the ship that would take him to Ireland (where, later that same year, his career as a professional actor was launched), Orson Welles attended a performance of the Susan Glaspell play, "Alison's House." By the time he left the theatre, he had "banked" in his head the germinal idea for "Citizen Kane." Alison is a world-renowned poet about whose personal life almost nothing was known. Upon her death, a reporter is assigned to get behind her public image and reveal the true Alison. After a series of disappointing interviews, the reporter recognizes the futility of his task. While there's no Rosebud in "Alison House," the plots could hardly be more similar.
What big time director doesn’t change and rewrite parts of a script???
Wells was notorious for going up against producers for more money and changes to his movies.

This was so exact lol😂😂😂
The movie knew it was playing with the truth. What is the point of this? Anyone who goes to the theatre and expects a history lesson...

The Social Network is Fincher’s better film, but Mank is good too
When you have the truth, and the legend, always put the legend on screen. Unfortunately, that's what happened.
you bought kael's and fincher's bullshit, that's what happened
@@user-lx7sg8ks7b Wrong. By the way, it's Fincher, not Ficher. Get your spelling correct, before you even attempt to make a valid point.
@@homeaccount5943 whatever man, i made a spelling error. still doesn't change the fact that both orson and mankiewicz wrote kane and everyone who says otherwise has not done their research lmao
@@user-lx7sg8ks7b Welles wrote most of it, like 90% of it. It was proven a long time ago. I'm just saying if you want to get people to pay attention to you, regarding history, then remember, presentation is important.
I hope Mank wins best picture because I met his grandson Ben Mankiewicz from Turner Classic Movies and Ben is wonderful I loved this movie 🎥 And the OSCAR goes to MANK!!!
