      I barely survived the nights I sleep in the car before the snow... now I have to survive the snow, no stimulus check except for the first one they gave out last year and then no food or restrooms because of the pandemic. Imagine all the uber and Lyft drivers who depend on driving people around? Getting paid pennies. They live in their car's also.

      @Flimflam They can cover some body parts or bedding in household aluminium foil. It refleks heat back to the body. In high altitude survival many people carry exactly that but call it a space blanket. Ambulance crews use them also because they help keep body warmth in.
      A small camping tilly light may not be able to heat a whole house room but it can sure warm up the inside of a large chest deep freezer. You could even erect a tent in side a house room which again helps to isolate warmth and prevent heat loss from the body. It can be very cosy with two of even a family.

      @Obidiah Fire honey it was NOT 400 years. America is only 245 years old.
      The USA was founded in 1776 and slavery was banned in 1865. Meaning it lasted in the USA for 89 years. Before that, you can take your complaints up with England and France who owned and made laws for all settlements until we got our independence and slowly started breaking up all the systems and crappy laws they had in place - slavery being one of them.
      If you were seriously taught that Americans endorsed slavery for 400 years your history teacher needs to go back to school, or else was one he!! of a liar.

      La Matanza (1910-1920)
      La Matanza ("The Massacre" or "The Slaughter") and the Hora de Sangre ("Hour of Blood")[1] were a series of attacks and lynchings of Mexican ethnics by white Texans between 1910 and 1920 in the midst of tension between the United States and Mexico during the Mexican Revolution.[2] These violent acts and killings were committed by Texan vigilantes and law enforcement, such as the Texas Rangers,[3][4][5] during their operations against bandit raids known as the Bandit Wars.[2] At least 571 Mexican Americans were lynched between 1848 and 1928, 20% of whom were lynched in the 1910s; in total, an estimated 5,000 Mexican Americans were killed during this period.[2][6] Between 1865 and 1920, more Mexican Americans were lynched in the Southwest than African Americans.[7] Extreme levels of violence and the total denial of civil liberties during this period were justified by racism.[8][9]
      Ethnic Mexicans in South Texas were placed on blacklists kept by Texas Ranger officials if they were decided to be "suspicious." In most instances, individuals placed on these lists would simply "disappear."[10] As early as 1875, newspaper reports described the Rangers as "fomenting anti-Mexican mob violence along the border."[1] Ranger violence reached its height from 1915-19 in response to increasing tensions initially escalated by the Plan de San Diego. This period was referred to as the Hora de Sangre by Mexicans in South Texas, many of whom fled for their lives to escape state terror in Texas. Estimates of individuals murdered range from hundreds to thousands. Many of these murders were concealed and went unreported.

    Quick tips from a Canadian to folks down south:
    1) Put on gloves/mittens, socks, masks, and hoods/hats
    2) Clean yourself with a wet rag instead of taking a shower
    4) if you have a pet or a child/spouse , hug them and huddle together under blankets. The combined body heat will keep you all warmer.

      @KMcKee-qn6bo Před 3 lety +9

      5) If you have candles... put a lit candle down inside of a large coffee can, cooking pot or a large terracotta flower pot. The walls of the container will heat up and provide radiant heat. And the container will protect against fire.
      6) Go back to the Canadian’s number 1) ... it’s the best advice. Layer your clothes, (four layers at least) and WEAR SOMETHING ON YOUR HEAD... a stocking cap or winter hat. 90% of your body heat exits through your skull.

      💔 Wow, do you always assume the worst about people? Why do you think maybe it’s been hard on me? That’s exactly why it’s been hard, because I’ve been consumed with helping my loved ones and making sure they’re all safe as well as making sure things are continuing to run smoothly where I am, which has been a part-time job of itself. I work from home but have gotten little done.
      My door has been open to all who can get here, but even those comfortable driving on ice aren’t wanting to risk it as it’s that bad here, and I’m housesitting in a home at least 30 minutes away from all my loved ones. I have low gas pressure, so my fireplace is out. If my power goes, I’ll be worse off than my loved ones without power but who have a fireplace, so coming here may not be a good idea even if they want to risk it.
      I’ve been doing a lot over my phone to help people, share ideas, provide moral support, etc. It was almost non-stop for two days until everyone was situated and I knew they were safe. One friend had no choice but to drive to another friend’s as her house got into the 30s. She was having major phone issues. I was able to get a message through to her to use her laptop to charge her phone-that enabled her to reach out to nearby people and find a place to go.
      The bright, warm home I’m normally in is dark and cold. I have most of the shades down to conserve heat, and I have the heat turned down and most of the lights off to conserve energy as we’re all being asked to do. The cats know something is off and are needing more attention. I’m extremely thankful things aren’t worse, but I’m also very ready for things to return to normal.
      I have power, yes, but it’s been hard regardless...
      People with love in their hearts always think the best of people... you might want to check yours as well as try to have a little compassion and understanding for people who are in a bad situation. Your attitude is why our country is such a mess. Such an arrogant, quick-to-judge, loveless attitude is truly asinine. Please re-evaluate your heart. It’s very damaging-not only to others, but especially to yourself. 💔💔💔 Judge others as you would like to be judged...

      We don't! I have lived in Texas 80 years and NEVER has there been anything even close to this. You don't take a state as big as Texas and experience the same weather conditions in every single county border to border UNLESS someone manipulated the weather and played with the grid. Hurricane Harvey was also manipulated. Deep State players are real and very dangerous.

    • @TheMissjayelle
      @TheMissjayelle Před 3 lety +11

      When places that aren’t used to or equipped to handle major snowfall events are hit with major snowfall/ice, it becomes really problematic. Power outages. Downed power lines from lots of trees falling (some areas of the US have neighborhoods with lots of trees everywhere, especially in neighborhoods.) Slippery roads that weren’t treated because the resources were not there as well big, steep hills (US is not a flat land). People who are used to big snow may laugh because they don’t know what it’s like to be severely underprepared for severe weather with a Government that cares very little about individual lives and mostly about capital (aka ... money and corporations). Which is why you see that picture of downtown Texas completely lit up and everywhere surrounding totally blackout.
