    Great rockumentary, please can we have more full recording behind the scenes. So cool to see the techniques, the project build up over time and the banter. Great vid 👍

    I love seeing stuff like this. I guess most new bands are all recording their tracks at home these days.

    • @deadshot4245
      @deadshot4245 Pƙed 2 lety +1

      yep most the time these days. I built my own studio that is fully dead silent and working on phase two incorporating more of this style grafted to it within a new dedicated practice space. Key for me was wanting to be able to record anything at any hour. My next big leap is full acoustic kit and e kit composed within the same space alongside all the amps and gear I need plus having isolation booth for vocals, guitar, keys and bass without having to strip down gear so it saves a ton of time.

    This is awesome! Gone through a lot of how to studio record videos, but it's sooo helpful actually seeing the process of how a band and the audio engineer go through the whole process, in one video under 30 mins. I'm so glad this video showed up in my recommended. Quick question. What headphones are you using to listen to the mix? I have the ATH-M50x, which I've heard is great for tracking, but not recommended for mixing.

      Thanks Matthew! It’s funny we’ve not done any advertising so it’s been a slow grower.
      I’d have to look at the schematics but it’s fairly big in here, we bought it to purpose build the studio, though it’s no warehouse by any means. The ceilings a bit lower than I’d like, but with the floating floor/ceiling some sacrifices had to be made!

  • @VMXGroove
    @VMXGroove Pƙed 3 lety

    I noticed that the snare batter head had a few ripples in it. Do you tune the snare down to eliminate ring? Is it best to record with a flat dry snare sound so you can pepper it with EQ and EFX? Love your choices on the mics. I learned a lot from your video. Good education for me.

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  Pƙed 3 lety +1

      Very much depends on the band, the song etc. The ripples are from the Masshoff tuning style that makes for a dead sound to which you can add reverb, but sometimes a more lively sound is called for

    @PIRKSTINS Pƙed 5 lety

      Matt Mashburn that’s what I thought aswell, I do drums first then bass then guitar

    • @sergio_grez
      @sergio_grez Pƙed 3 lety +2

      I would definitely have drums and guitars recorded first ( al least as a guide ). That way you'll have the overall of the felling of the entire song so when you play the bass you will feel like playing with the band thus playing with more feeling. Later you can replace those guitars for the final takes. That way each musician will always feel accompanied while recording and that way playing better lines that match the overall esence of the tune.

  • @hogblockula9335
    @hogblockula9335 Pƙed 5 lety

    Wait so you mixed and mastered everything at the end of day 3? Or were those just mixdowns for the band and you did the actual mixes later?

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  Pƙed 5 lety +3

      Mix was all but done by end of day 3. I tend to mix as I go, you know the old phrase “track like there’s no mixing, mix like there’s no master”

    • @adamsteelproducer
      @adamsteelproducer  Pƙed 5 lety +1

      So most of the mix, apart from a few small revisions afterward, were done with the band in the room, discussing tone, specific parts that needed boosting, ear candy etc and the master I got them to pick some reference tracks. Makes things work very quickly and it feels very collaborative
