Anyone else here cuz they remembered they had a harmonica and are incredibly bored in quarantine? I’ve decided now is the time to learn how to play guitar and harmonica at the same time. Only problem is I have no clue how to play the harmonica.
My story haha

I need one too, son.

This guy taught me how to play the harmonica, three years ago, and now I’m in a professional band touring the world. I’m so grateful.
So good Peter! Thanks for letting us know! Catch you on the road 😎
@@MitchGraingerMusicI'm buying a Harmonica because of the movie "once upon a time in the west" staring Charles Bronson.
I see a lot of tutorial videos that show the song is literally just 4s & 5s, it's still a little confusing but I'm getting there. Do you think you can do a visual tutorial on how to play it. I'm 41 & it's my favorite western movie so I decided to learn how to play that Harmonica song.
i never knew you could breathe in on the harmonica to create other notes. whoever designed the harmonica is a genius. i play the flute as well and it drains your breath very quickly and it takes years of practice to learn the right techniques to not make it do that. with harmonica, you just play and you never have to stop to breath or anything. you can go forever until your lungs stop working. it makes it very addictive to play
you can also breathe in whilst whistling to make notes as well
Age 73, I have been inspired to learn this ‘harp’. In Scotland we call it a ‘moothie’ or mouth organ. Thank you Mitch, you are a star.
Hey John! I like it. I'd never heard the expression 'moothie' before ether!
My Dad could play the moothie a bit and whenever Larry Adler came on our radio, Dad would get in the groove again.
I suppose back in his day, the mouthorgan was affordable and portable. Keep up your good work, Mitch. You have a great knack of communicating, very droll!
Hi John, my uncle played the mouthie and the piano accordian too.New years day was alway awash with laughter and song, thanks to Unce Jack. I bought my dad a hohner chromonica 280 C, thinking he mih give it a wee try after Uncle Jack passed. Sadly he didn't like to, and I have 'reinherited' it. Now I find masel here, looking for some tips and tricks to ge me started. Any easy (ish) Scottish folky tunes you'd recommend. At 50 nw, my memory doesn't let me rememebr the ones Jack played for us, but I'm sur it will come back, as i\ get fmiliar with the instrument.
I am 62 and am encouraged that a 73-year-old was inspired two years ago.
68 and just starting, my son plays banjo so I'm hoping to be able to jam with him as a surprise
I've been passing my harmonica around the neighborhood so everyone can learn to play during the quarantine.

I found my harmonica in my basement when I was a kid and I blew into it and to my surprise like 12 earwigs came crawling out of it because I guess they like that moist environment and I-

I read this just after 10 minutes of breathing in and out of the old harmonica I havent seen since childhood, am glad to say I havent found any critters, but also admit I can't stop glancing at it out the corner of my eye now, worried I'll see something lol
Holy fuck I would have freaked

My brother-in-law passed away unexpectedly recently. He was one of the coolest and most unique humans. I inherited his harmonicas, to include a blues harmonica. I'm determined to learn the harmonica in his memory no matter now long it takes or how bad I am. Thanks for these videos!
Hi Amelia, I'm really sorry to hear that, and I'm here (or over at harmonicatime.com) if you need some more info, and help!
This single note business is not as easy as it looks. Thanks for the fantastic harmonica lesson. I need a lot of practice.

same, but after some time i discovered a method of practice: just try to play random melodies, after some time you'll slowly start to naturally hold your lips together in the right position
right? gonna try to get it down in less than a week.

I'm gonna learn the harmonica, my mom passed away a few years ago and I found her old harmonica. I remember it back from when I was a little kid. Actually she gave me banana shaped harmonica as kid. I'm hoping her old metal one still works because I'd love to learn to play some blue tunes.
Lol

andrew kim Thanks I appreciate that but my my mom passed awhile ago. I honestly don't remember what it sounds like. a sorta hum I guess. I "lost" it when I was a kid. You're a great teacher Mitch.
These videos are going to be amazing.
Excellent introduction. Watching and practicing this made for a wonderfully immersive lunch break. I checked out some different harmonica intro videos but yours really did it. Love the way how you started it off showing that you know your stuff - credibility right there, and they're also fun pieces that makes me want to learn. The lesson was just the right amount to be not too hard, not too easy. Looking forward to the next one after I practice for about two weeks. Fun instrument, glad I tried it out. Thank you!

Just picked up my harmonica that was lying from years. Right time to learn.
Always wanted a harmonica when I was a kid but never got one. Some friends of mine gave me one for Christmas, best Christmas present I've ever had. Now I want to really learn to play it.
I remember the thrill of buying a hohner harmonica when I was a young kid...a real music store, the small box, the small leaflet, I bought a really nice one...a couple of hours, a few days...then nothing...into the drawer with the frisbee , yo-yo, and my sister's jacks...
To give you a clearer perspective...i remember the thrill of getting a guitar for a jr high guitar teaching class, an after school club..out of elementary school, making grown up decisions, joining clubs, practically a high schooler...dad bought the guitar, had the red felt lined case, little tuner horn, little beginner job from the music store...3 weeks of after school classes, ...nothing...two chords, sore fingers, couldnt even, play well enough to tinker on my own...a lovely corner ornament in a boys room for over a decade.
I love music, really really love music, but i can't sing a single note with my voice, corectly. Now i have a harmonica, just bought it from antiques, cleaned it up and foulling around. Just discovered this tutorial, so... I'm in, let's take it a challenge, a serious one. I'll do my "homework" and hopefully, one day, i'll be able to express myself... melodicaly :) p.s. thank you for your classes, hope everything is great even after... 7 years :)
Got my first harmonica this week, and this first lesson already has me feeling like I might be able to play the thing. The explanations are great and the demonstrations are soild. Thank you!
