    It’s so satisfying to watch the marimbas do the chromatic exercise. They look so together. I just love it. Dude 8 years ago when I started percussion as a snare I never knew I would be an all around percussionist (drums and mallets). But here I am center marimba at my high school.

    Such incredible precision and kinesthetic memory required to play marimbas! And do they have one at home to practice on? I’m amazed at the talent and dedication to learn this instrument by these young folks! Kudos!

      Unfortunately the more common case is that most kids don't have instruments at home. Some programs are nice enough to let kids take them home over breaks, but that's not the case everywhere. So some kids might come in their band rooms and practice during lunch or after school. However a new company recently popped up called Synced Up Designs. They sell tarps with accurately measured bars and note names. It's a much cheaper solution to help with note accuracy. The have one for 4, 4.3, 4.6, and 5.0 octave marimba. They also have one for vibes, xylo, and even glock. I'd imagine most kids are using those nowadays.

    Does anyone know the name of the chromatic exercise that they start at 12:30 is called? I can kind of piece it together, but it's hard with the timpani camera being most prominent camera.

    Why do they look in left side before and after playing note ?

    • @CantEven
      @CantEven Před 2 měsíci

      They use motions of their mallets to silently communicate time with each other before they start playing so that they all start playing at the exact same time. Even though there is a metronome in this video, it's good practice for when they eventually go without the met.
