- In this excerpt, students demonstrate how to play the clapping game. The three rhythms that are used in this game are, Ta, Ti-Ti and Tika-Ti. Students must start on a Ta at which point it moves clockwise around the circle. Clapping a Ta keeps it going the same direction, Ti-Ti reverses it and Tika-Ti skips a person going the same direction. Students are out if the don't clap when they are supposed to, clap when they're not supposed to or their rhythms aren't accurate.

I love this. Wondering about trying a slightly simplified version just using ta and ti-ti for younger students.
Hi Andrea. Absolutely......use what ever works for you and your students. Great to build it up from ta and ti-ti initially then later introduce tick-ti as a practice activity.

FourEyes I am familiar with music but with singing. Not familiar with instruments or reading music though. Does this game/exercise help with cueues, or focusing on your own part in correlation to others? What's the purpose behind it?
@@urltima It's all about keeping in rhythm, by clapping, to the beat of the teacher. One clap keeps the rhythm going clockwise, two claps will change the direction and three claps skips a student in the same direction. It's about catching people out by clapping.

No one and no one should be taken Out. Subtle sense of hurtfulness can arise.
Maybe I am wrong, but I believe that education is about preparing kids for real life, and that includes teaching them how to fail, rise up and try again. It is not about living in a bubble where nobody gets their feelings hurt.
They are in year 9 so like they should know that everything in life doesn’t goes their way
