Same. Just imagining the conviction and will that it took for an aged Mr. Dudley to desperately run through the woods carrying his dying wife, and the will and fight it probably took for Clara to stay in this world just long enough so that she could be with her family forever. It's a horrifying, beautiful, heartbreaking and amazing situation to imagine yourself being in. And, if I'm not mistaken, this is also the first time that Horace had ever seen his first-born. Truly beautiful.
How this show was not nominated for Emmys blows my mind, particularly episode 6. Amazing.

Nell's monologue is beautiful.
Apparently, the actress playing Nell, Victoria Pedretti was fresh out of drama school and this was her first big gig. She's really good and I can't wait to see what else she does and where she goes from here.
All of the Crane children were suppose to represent the five stages of grief:
Steve-denial
Shirley-anger
Theo-avoidance and
Luke and Nell: guilt and acceptance respectively

One of the most beautiful things I've heard in TV recently and honestly one of the most important life lessons I think everyone needs to gain at some point - as relationship advice, about advice dealing with trauma, about political differences, everything:
"Some things can't be told. You either live them, or you don't, but they can't be told"

This was one of the best shows I think I've ever seen. I hope Season 2 is just as good. I'm glad to hear you'll be reacting to Dark. It's a great show. Just be sure to watch the German version with subtitles. The English dubbing is really bad.
There is no season 2 of Hill House, not really anyway. There'll be "The Haunting of Bly Manor" by the same showrunner, based on The Turn of the Screw. Some of the same cast might come back playing different characters, but it won't have anything to do with this story. This story's done.

This episode is stunning, I cry every time and I've watched it three times and a bunch of first reactions to it. Every time.
I would love to see you do a reaction video to the hidden ghosts! You should also re watch THOHH to see just how perfectly this show was put together. In the very fist episode when Hugh checks on one of the girls sleeping she says "dancing in the red room" before she mentions the pandas, and so many more things being "casually" said that you will pick up on.
When Hugh enters the Red Room Olivia is glaring at Steven, she is not happy that the children get away (IMHO).
The producer said he is a big Dr. Who fan and that there are several references to that show in THOHH.

So I don't know if it's already been said to you in comments but here are 2 interesting facts about the show...First the creator Mike Flanagan wrote the show as an examination of loss. Each child in the Crane family is supposed to represent one of the 5 stages of grief. Steve is Denial, Shirley is Anger, Theo is Bargaining, Luke is Depression and Nell is Acceptance. Once you know that it brings a different understanding to the characters. The 2nd fact is the original ending Flanagan had panned was VERY dark. In the original ending the final scene was going to be all the kids at Lukes party but in the background was the telltale window of the redroom, implying they never actually got out, and were all ghosts living a happy illusion while the red room "digested" them. Flanagan reconsidered and decided to leave the family on a happy hopeful note. From the writer..."We toyed with the idea for a little while that over that ending monologue, over the image of the family together, we would put the Red Room window in the background. For a while, that was the plan. Maybe they never really got out of that room. The night before it came time to shoot it, I sat up in bed, and I felt guilty about it. I felt like it was cruel. That surprised me. I’d come to love the characters so much that I wanted them to be happy. I came into work and said, ‘I don’t want to put the window up. I think it’s mean and unfair.’ Once that gear had kicked in, I wanted to lean as far in that direction as possible. We’ve been on this journey for 10 hours; a few minutes of hope was important to me.”

Best wrap up of a season. I can "Not Hate" you now because you cried exactly on cue. :) I'm stealing the "I was sooo lucky to be your dad" line for my deathbed. I hope that my kids don't realize it. My kids still will not watch this with me, because of their ghost fears. So, I will wait, maybe Halloween season 2025, to enjoy this with loved ones. I can re-watch the 4-time-one-take "twin storm" episode over and over. You guys need to rewatch and try to find the ghosts in the background.

@@JKReacts I personally spotted only one of them during my first watch (the one behind Henry when he was breaking through the wall in the basement) and when I learned there were a lot of them, I watched the whole season again, but focussed on the background every time the showed the past... And although I spotted a lot more of them (especially the ones in the dark areas next to the main stairs are quite obvious when you look for them), I still missed most of them when I saw one of the compilations afterwards :)
Fantastic series, never tire of watching it. There is going to be a season 2 called 'Blyth Manor' (think that's how it's spelt)

And Germans do have feelings, I know that being born in Germany (although maybe not all of them but most). I just happen to have Spanish roots so I teach them a bit. Just kidding, hahaha... Episode 10 was the only one I didn't like. It didn't match up with the rest of the season, especially in regards to the house. The house is bad for 9 episodes and then for the finale it's just a nice home where some ghosts live. I would have preferred a darker ending, like all of them dying in the Red Room.
It was supposed to end that way, they actually had the red room window during the end when everyone is together and the red cake for Luke's sobriety was supposed to be a clue but the director Mike Flanagan couldn't go through with it and decided to cover it up. It would have been an insanely bleak ending that would have conflicted with the theme of grief in the show. It's not the best or most realistic message that you can only find peace from grief through death but it does take away from the house. I've just come to see the house as a neutral party that traps the souls of the dead and what actually makes the house bad are some of the ghost like Poppy and her husband. Same with the old lady warning Olivia about Poppy and Nell saving her siblings, the house itself isn't the entity causing all this trouble.
The house was never presented as bad, the house has always just been a place, it is the people there and the ghosts that act and cause things. It is ghosts like Poppy that manipulates Olivia. The house is a vessel. If anything, everyone dying in the Red Room would have even more contradicted the theme of the story of this entire season, which are the stages of grief to eventual healing. A bleak ending would have been just that, bleak for the sake of bleak, and that would have harm the thematic coherency of the story even more.
Yeah. The house just "feeds," (though they never say what it feeds on, and if you lose anything because of it) it was never good nor bad. Now Poppy, she's bad. But now that Hugh and Nell are there to provide stability to Olivia, they will probably find a way to keep her in check. A sad ending would have counteracted every theme the series had been developing. A "everyone dies" ending would have been more traditionally horror, but that's not a compliment.
