Good sleeps systems are a must in the back country! Had a pretty nerve racking experience this fall -5 out, stuck pushing through a burn till dark, broke crampons and lost anything attached to the outside of the packs, got out still needing to set up camp. I really have to give a shout out to peax and their solitude without that tent, the ease of set up and the lite outdoors stove it really would have been a problem now just needing a better bag to top it off!
When I first saw the price tag of this new bag I about died. It’s so expensive. But then you look at the 3 sleeping bags I have in my basement and they range from $250 to $350. So in my search for the perfect sleeping bag I’ve spend more then what the peax bag would cost, and just watching this video this bag would check all my boxes.
Please consider making this bag in a synthetic version (Climashield Apex) and adding clip on points for attaching elastic straps to go around your sleeping pad (like most quilt makers are doing) when using in quilt mode .
What a great design. No more Dutch oven mummy bag. Love the versatility. Toray DWR is the best. Same product Kuiu uses. I'm ordering one now!

As soon as I saw how you can take a leak with out even taking the bag off to go outside I thought "DANG" and "I should hit the like button" and then the subscribe button reminder showed up, LOL. How did you guys know?! Was that planned.... how intuitive. Glad I saw this review because I already had my researching made up on one of the Zen Bivy bag systems. Rickum, rackum, ruckum, crap now which one. The Solace seems to make great sense for when it's colder but when it's warmer I don't enjoy sleeping directly on the pad. What an absolutely feature ridden sleeping bag.

I got this puppy is in the mail already. $562 with the GRITTY promo code made that ticket much more palatable. Im a 6' 3" guy. Sleeping bags get me salty just looking at the space most long bags take up in my pack. Looks like this is gonnna sort that out some cuz the "regular" sizing for the solace is on point.
RIGHT ON BROTHER! This bag is for real. I hate being sweaty and then cramped into small sleeping bag. The stuff sack isn't great--I'd consider getting a Sea to Summit stuff sack.
Your using regular at 6' 3? How the fit?
How much more room in length do you have in the size regular? I’m 6’4” and was worried that it might be too short for me.

Question from someone who sleeps in about every position except on my back - in any other bag I’ve ever used, I make sure the bag stays “right side up”, and I just rotate inside of it. But with the design of this one (particularly the hood and arm ports), it seems like I would need to stay in the same orientation inside the bag, and rotate the whole thing with me. Would you guys agree?
Brad here. I somewhat sleep the same way. Sometimes it’s on my back, my side or even my stomach when the back is tight. The best way is to leave the hood tucked away and you can freely roll inside the bag or roll the bag with you. The zipper isn’t an issue because when you roll onto your side, worse case is the zipper is on the side like other sleep bags would be. I haven’t ever found it to be an issue.
I remember when Sitka came out with their bag, and you disliked it when i asked you about it. I ordered this bag and I'm going to order the Sitka one and see which one is better.
Ha ha! I still don't like the Sitka--it's too heavy, it's not a down bag--it's synthetic. Sitka just missed the mark for a backpacking sleeping bag. PEAX has made the bag that SITKA should have made.
Since you cannot fit a pillow in the hood of that sleeping bag what pillow are you using and how do you keep it from sliding off your pad?

I HATE air pillows, hate, hate, hate. LOL I used a Zpacks stuff sack pillow and I use my down jacket and down vest to make it into my pillow. I love this zpacks pillow. My pillow still stuffs into the hood of the PEAX bag when I don't need my head inside the hood. Otherwise, when my head is in the hood of the bag my pillow rubber bands to the air pad and stays put. It's great--don't need a sleeping bag sleeve because the pillow attaches to the air pad.
@@tomascardenasg checkout the Zpacks pillow--stuff it with your down jacket and rubber band the pillow to the air pad itself. It's legit.

Just use a women’s athletic top and put over air pad and then stuff your pillow in that. It is a game changer. Keeps the pillow where you need it.

What size does it pack down to. That info is noticeably absent on the Peax web site and is an important spec when backpack hunting.
Would’ve been nice if you guys showed how that sleeping bag fits in the backpack looks like it might take quite a bit of space

I was ordering a SG chilcoot this weekend. Now I won't and will make sure I get this.
I’ve used both. The PEAX is a big step up. In fact, the Chilkoot is just not my thing. Before the PEAX sleeping bag, the best bag for me was the Western Mountaineering Badger. But the PEAX is better than both of them.
What are the packed dimensions of this bag?
With a good stuff sack it's about the size of a loaf of bread. It's on par with every other top-end bag--it gets small.
Arrives tomorrow…real question is when will the DCF Tipi be released
We are working on the final version and manufacturing details, but we are unsure of the release date.

Why does this look so similar to SITKA’s sleeping bag at double the price?
It is much different than the Sitka bag. It has many more improved features, materials and testing. This bag was almost 3 years in the making to make it different, better and superior to other bags on the market.

Sorry guys, Thee best bags in the world are "Wiggies", warmest, best insulation, roomy, and they literally push water out while you sleep. Jerry is great guy, call him in Colorado. And his bags have no bat insulation. Oh, watch em on CZcams.

Wiggy does make a great bag . I own 4 of them and have been dealing with him for well over 20years, but they are very heavy . Also calling him a great guy is being VERY kind IMHO

There is USA made for cheaper
The price point is on par with all elite ultralight/below-freezing sleeping bags. The difference with the PEAX is that we designed it for what we want in a backcountry sleeping bag--top zip, arm holes, warm foot box, water repellent portions and ROOMY! That said, cost/value is a personal choice and perhaps this bag's value proposition doesn't meet your standards and that's okay--lots of products out there that I feel the same about.

With a compression stuff sack it gets tiny-similar to all the competing high-end sleeping bags on the market. Nothing packs down better than high quality down.

Not for me. I own Western Mountaineering-great bag, but it’s not on the level of this new PEAX bag.

@@ryanbailey6600 - We aren’t climbing Everest-we’re hunting. And we’re usually hunting with a tipi and wood burning stove. I don’t need a 5 degree 3lbs. 10 oz. sleeping bag-wrong tool for the job. But if I ever climb Everest, I will definitely look into the Sequoia.
