    On a long timescale (intergenerational), I think silver is silver. If it becomes so scarce that it's all getting melted down for tech applications, it won't matter if there's an eagle on it. So I just want to stack as many ounces as possible, for as cheap as possible.

      ​@@2phonesjones899 silver eagles are only available through middlemen, not directly from the mint. They are in high demand and low supply. They have one producer (US government), and they are easily identifiable and include security features. They also have increased liquidity over generic silver rounds due to aforementioned reasons. All of these reasons increase the price, that being said I stack generic .999 silver rounds.

      But how do you know the rounds are really silver? The benefits of minted coins outweigh bullion because of the ease of transactions, the lack of capital gains taxes, and trust we have in the US mint. Liquidity is king.

    Would definitely select the silver eagles. Reason being is not everyone will recognize what a round is and in comparison. The moral of the story is invest in silver while you can.

    37 silver rounds without a second thought. In 86 when I bought my first 100 Silver Eagles from the Federal government, I was pissed off that I had to pay 75 cents mark up on each coin. Forget exactly what I paid, but I think it was close to 600 bucks. I was just a young snot nose kid back then. I traded those 100 1986 Eagles for 200 1993 Eagles a lot later in my life. I thought I was getting a good deal, but in retrospect I should have held on to the 1986 Silver Eagles.

    back when I bought all of my silver eagles, they were only 1$ above spot from my local coin shop. that same coin shop is now selling eagles for 16$ over spot. everything has gone to hell in a hand basket

      How does the same shop go from having below market premiums to a ridiculous premium no one charges.
      My bullion dealer used to charge $3 over spot and now charges $6 over. Your guy was obviously a reasonable bullion dealer but now decided to lose his mind and charge a premium no one else does? Something doesn't add up here.

    Considering you’ll be hard pressed to get anything over spot should you ever sell, the best bet is to just buy reputable rounds at a small premium. Silver Eagles are anything but rare. Paying high premiums to who? The coin shops? You’re just supporting your local dealer. It’s a racket

      @@damnu8089 that’s not how physical silver works. The face value just means it’s legal tender. The low face value also means you can go to any country on that face value and not have to worry about customs as much. $10,000 cash or carry 5 gold eagles that’s technically $250

    I’ve been buying 5 oz rounds and 5-10 oz bars as of late simply bc of the premium difference. Not sure when I’ll buy one oz silver coins again, maybe never.

      Thats okay if you have to swap 10x10oz to buy a car off the neighbour like I did, but if you need something more liquidable to buy food or fuel or bullets, you cant just shave an oz off a 10oz bar and tell someone its silver. Keep the coins for $50 transactions

    I've bought my Silver Eagles 3 or more years ago. Who doesn't love them? I also bought Maple Leafs similarly. In the last 3 yrs. I only buy a variety of the least expensive bars and Constutional silver.
    My answer is buy the rounds. I will sell my silver when the manipulation fails and we finally will see commodities find their true value, post backed by nothing fiat debt notes.

    I would definitely take the silver eagles, because they will increase in value as the years go by. The silver rounds will be at the mercy of spot silver plus maybe a small premium.

      @kcconnor I will have to disagree with you. If you are collecting rare or limited mint coins, they will appreciate in value more than rounds, but you'll have more rounds and that will probably offset the price difference. Look at the Morgan's. Yes, they are 90% silver, but they aren't 2x or 3x more valuable than the silver they contain.
      I'll stack my rounds and throw in a few sovereign mints for fun.

    Stack them alongside USA junk silver.
    The combination is an unbeatable sledgehammer of solid value and recognition!

      Yeah, sure, but not sure... But for sure not in Europe! Here ASE's are not only hard to find (thus relatively quite expensive), but they also sell for nearly as much as any other 1 oz. coin... Here I'd much rather buy the (normally) affordable Britannias, Philharmonics, Maple Leaves and so on. All three even looking better imo, with the added feature of maple leaves for fighting with milk spots.

      @@C-130-Hercules Sorry if I sound harsh, but subjectively speaking about pure aesthetics, security features and as an European, yeah in my book it's Britannias, Philharmonics and Maple leaves (well last one is not quite European, but milk-spot-free and four nines fine, instead of three- super unique features)... Supply of ASE's quite too low for comparison and it comes due to "your" political reasons, e.g. your silver digging companies sell their silver in Europe for the better price they get... As in the USA you can only mint silver coins using USA-dug silver AFAIK... Please, correct me if I'm wrong!... But it sounds like very low supply, decent demand... The most sought after? Data? Do you know someone who wanted to own an ASE, with all of their money, an couldn't find any?

    Numbers don’t lie in the game of stacking! Silver is silver .. Sure Eagles are nice and I have a lot of them but as an experienced stacker, I’ve learned that you have to spend your money wisely and as you stack and your number rise (silver) and the value of silver rises the numbers will show the fruit of your labor!!

    I made my first ever metals purchase in 2019. I got mostly buffalo rounds at about $0.25 over spot, and about a quarter as many eagles at like $1 over spot. Oh how I wish I could go back in time and absolutely load up on ASE’s. 😭

    I buy culled SE for two bucks more than a buffalo. Best of both worlds. I get silver cheaper than if I was buying new SE. As well as get the most liquid coin possible. Personally a sucker for the unique SE ping I may be a bit biased in my approach.

    I have collected literally hundreds of pounds of silver over the years, and I own 4 or 5 silver eagles in slabs.. bullion is bullion, and most silver eagles just don't have the numismatic value that justify the premium.

    up until the last month or so I had 3 pawn shops selling me SE for 30 each. Between them and the coin shops no one is seeing any. Any for sale now are close to 40 each. Generic rounds are close to 30 now. If you find them.
    I'm going as cheap as I can get these days.

    Silver Eagles were actual coins that were in circulation. The rounds are only valuable for the weight. So the Eagles would have two attractive qualities.

      That is incorrect... Silver Eagles are not made for circulation at all my friend and while they do in fact have a $1 face Value, that face value is irrelevant as they have never been worth just $1. They've never been used in circulation.

    37 oz silver coin, if it ever explodes nobody's going to care if it's an eagle or Canadian or whatever. In the end, silver is silver and what it's value is is what we want the most.

    Life hack, take advantage of the Bradford exchange's promo to get a silver eagle for $20. It signs you up for a subscription of all the previous years of silver eagles at the price of $120 each, but after the first one for $20 is sent simply cancel the subscription. Rinse and repeat.

      Do you understand that people buy precious metals, not for the monetary value of it but the actual melt value? I have Morgan dollars, that are worth $1, if you go off of what it says on the coin, but everyone knows they're worth far more, because the value is being calculated in the precious metal

      Correct, to a point but you're burning up so much of your fiat in premiums just to buy in that it's not worth it. You're not gonna get that premium back

      I think there is a good chance you would always get a premium on the eagles. Of course it will vary as time goes on.
      I guess how I'm looking at them is a store of value for the silver content and a bit of collector value which is the higher premium. But yes if you just want the silver value as melt then the lower premium the better. 👍

      Yes always some premium but anything over $4 then it's time to just stack the rounds. Anything over is not worth the risk.

    Diversify your stack. 90% coins, Sovereign Coins, Generic Rounds, 10 oz and Kilo bars. When selling time comes around off load the generic stuff first. I'm tempted to say keep the 90% for as long as possible because the more wash-rinse-repeat cycles we go through the less 90% will be around as it gets refined.

      There are many routes you can go. Personalized your purchases. If you had both rounds and eagle's you'd want to sell the round. Eagle's are more for collecting.rounds is stacking silver.

    I got one graded silver eagle to look at and the rest are vintage to modern rounds from $18.50 to $25 each. My husband bought a dumb commemorative coin off ebay that was around 55 bucks and I was gobsmacked...could've bought 2 rounds and acouple hot dogs for that 🤪

    Im in a good position where I get 350-400 each month plus the money I make from side hustles and I’ve been putting 200$- 270$ on silver I just started but I wanna get a lot starting out and just build it up more casually after that! I got 100 grams of valcambi silver and a couple graded coins and a 1 oz aztec bar coming in the mail, I love this hobby!

    Yes, there is a premium for silver eagles. That having been said when the chips are down an ounce of silver is an ounce of silver. That's why the dolled-up pieces are a waste of money unless you are just buying them for your own pleasure NOT investment.

    I scope the deals on silver eagles.. si.ply because they always hold a high premium... So if ya get a deal on em.. your money ahead.
    But there is the stack mentality where silver is silver.. but in that case.. just buy bars

      Nah man just join the army, they'll train you to haul a 50 lb ruck sack (full of silver) 25+ miles a day. Did this in basic training minus the silver but it was 50 lb ruck sack. And all reality... if it comes to fleeing on foot a gun and bullets will be 100x the value of gold

    From one of my dealers I have started buying Constitutional Silver. They take 5-7 weeks to get either silver or gold eagles. With Constitutional Silver, they ship it it in about a week.

    I’ve noticed that Canadian maple 🍁 are $2 cheaper than silver 🦅 But if you’re going for pyre value , the rounds are your best bet.
