- In this video I get the engine block back from the machine shop and start the rebuild process.
"Music: « Elevate » from Bensound.com"
"Music: Upbeat Party & Inspirational Outlook by Scott Holmes"
599 block, cracked block, broken crank, cracked heads, k2500 suburban, diesel suburban, gmt400
This was worth the watch purely for the cameo! But the engine rebuild is also nice
👍
I clicked on here just because I was thinking about doing a 6.5 but I subscribed because I actually loved this video 😂
Thanks for the sub! I'm working on some cool content in the future. Life has just been really busy though. What kind of rig are you working on?
Hahaha you got me with the “shake the crank” method 😂 love plastic guage, simple to use 👍 great video and happy holidays to you and your family
Glad you got a kick out of it, I'm thinking I'll do a how to on making head studs out of all thread next.. lol.
Good to see saving a 6.5 good motors 👍👍👍👍👍💯
Me too, unfortunately two of the 3 I had were complete junk. The block was cracked on one around the webbing and the crank broke on the other one ruining the block.
@@ArrowsGarage Bro. all of that can be fixed.
@@VeggiePower303 that is correct, Another fix is a forged crank and solid crank pulley
Doing a good stumble through the rebuild. What a great little helper and good Dad patience shown. About to do a rebuild so good tips.
Thanks!
When I rebuilt my top end I paid them Detroit Green… love the videos keep them coming!!!!
I actually bought the Detroit Green before I made the video but I decided not to go all green on it. I might paint the valve covers and intake Detroit Green but I haven't decided yet.
This has got to be the best truck video on CZcams! EVER! You girl is a star in this show! I like working with my little girl too. Unfortunately she's 22 and wont touch anything! LOL
Thank you, I've been extremely busy the last summer months but I'm hoping to be able to pick the channel back up soon.
Cracks between valves were a relatively easy fix on old 6.2 heads… involves reaming coolant passage and driving in a length of valve guide ( with sealer). Effective, permanent and cheap.
I always use brass freeze plugs… not expensive
Yeah, I probably should have just ran them.
@@ArrowsGarage well if they failed it could’ve been catastrophic failure with Hydro lock and everything else problems big problems so they either have to be repaired or replaced course back in the day. Some people pushed their luck and got away with it.
BUDDY YOU ARE THE FIRST WHICH I SUBSCRIB....JUST BECAUSE OF LITTILE PRINCESSSS
Well thanks and welcome to the channel.
Nice work, thanks for showing this, hoping to do the same on my 99 K2500 suburban some day! Really like the paint job! Greetings from Norway!
Thanks man! Greetings.
your daughter made me subscribe
Thanks for watching.
Glad to see more people doing garage builds!
One thing I ran into on my last build with plastigauge, and to be clear, this is a pretty unusual situation... I had no shop and needed to get the motor done so I was forced to do it in the middle of winter. I used a cheap 'carport' tent, which was fine except it was damn cold which affected the plastigauge results. Since it's just a wax compound, the cold wouldn't allow it to take proper shape so I had to mike everything. Temperature matters!
This project is taking so long it was actually summer when I did the crank.
@@ArrowsGarage , yeah, even working as much as I could, it took me months to finish. Now the article and videos on the other hand... MUCH longer! I've had the motor in for almost 3 years and I still haven't finished writing it up.
Keep at it!
Great video and had a big smile on my face after seeing your daughter my daughter is 5 and is the same way ;-)
Yeah man, it's great! She loves helping me work on stuff!
My niece and nephew is 6 and 4 and the same way man love to help out with anything
Good job señor
Thank you señor
Great video 👍💯
Thanks, I hope to do a bunch more of them.
@@ArrowsGarage cool and I'll be checking them out. I got a 6.5 HD that I am trying to rebuild for my tow truck. Actually I just need the block because the original block starter holes are crap
Teach em young!
You know it!
awesome !
Thanks
I was seriously considering to subscribe after you splashed a gallon of used oil on your pants, for the pure comedy factor, but didn't.
However your daughter changed my mind. :0)=
Thanks for the subscription!
Paint the intake valve covers oil pan the color of the truck
It's all painted, check out my Facebook to see the updates.
Paint the heads pink or grey. I can't tell the difference I'm color blind. nice job Joe!
LOL, I can tell the difference though.
I was about to stop watching when you shaked the crank. Lol!
Glad you liked that.
so…very nice video! curious if your using TTY bolts…as you cant really reuse once they are fully torqued. i just did new rod bearings…and good bolts very very hard to find and expensive-ARP doesn’t even make…i would want to be .0025-.0035. .002 is min clearance range…and have seen too many slipped bearings when they are really tight…GM manual specifies no oil film or grease when plasti-gaging main bearings..ie dry…
They must have been TTY
They are telling you bullshit at the shop.
Crack repaired heads are better then new, because they will never crack again with the sleeve they put in there. first I was paying the machine-shop $20 / crack to fix them.
Then I bought a box of 100 sleeves and was doing it myself for pennies.
I have rebuilt near 100 6.5 engines and was selling them on ebay for 10 years for $3000.
The webbing crack can also be fixed, by JB welding the cap bolts into the engine.
The JB weld will stop the crack from progressing.
You never going to take it apart, but that rebuilt engine can run for 500,000 miles.
By that time they will all be obsolete.
And you will be smelling the flowers from underneath.
Also one advice on the cap bolts, do not tighten them to spec.
Tighten them to 10% under spec.
Because that is what cracks the block.
The factory spec. is too tight for how much material there is.
Also they have lowered the material quality when going from the 6.2 to the 6.5 and neglected to reduce the spec. on the bolts accordingly. That is GM engineering for you.
That's what I'm hearing, we only have one machine shop in our town. I probably should have called some of the surrounding towns.
all 6.5 heads crack in-between the valves... I have a set of Navistar heads and they have the same cracks
That's what I'm hearing, I probably should have saved the money and just ran them.
Does it affect engine reliability? Because if its normal I dont think so.
What brand bearings did you use? Mahle is impossible to find.
I think they were enginetech from Rock Auto.
Hahle or clevite
I know how to weld cast iron but can I fix main webs it’s like 1 inch long
I won't try it. You would end up welding the surface and the crack is all w the way through. Plus if you have a block that is prone to cracking why even risk it.
@@ArrowsGarage got it I am getting a military 6.5 diesel with low miles like 35 miles low lol
@@Victorsvolkswagens sweet! What year?
@@ArrowsGarage 97 so I’m gonna swap a db2 in it and rebuild the DS4 and sell it
@@ArrowsGarage so I decided not to get the military 6.5 I got a 6.2 for $250 it had 4 spun rod bearings but thankfully I had a brand new crank but I got everything to completely rebuild it maybe add a turbo too
