I'm currently working on my own GS500. By the looks of it, taking the engine out surely makes it easier to work on the valves. Great job on documenting the project, great to see the effort!
Good job. I would do this for a GS500 that isn't running now but after all the tools and nasty chemicals purchased I will just buy a used low mile one. Very common to find here but I may have to wait a few weeks for a nice cheap lost title bike.
Cheers. Yeah, I used it as a commuter for quite a while going between Bristol and Chippenham. I still keep it running and use it at least once a week now because it costs so little to do so.

About 13000 miles although i haven't used it a lot for the past 2 yrs.
Where did you get the valve seat seals
I never replaced them. I'm surprised they haven't leaked to this day
